Chapter 9

"Mistress Calypso," Blinky says, walking over to me. "Are you alright?" I nod my head, pushing past him to grab my wand.

My door slams open, taking all my focus. Draco looked in, eyes wide with worry.

"What happened?" he says breathlessly.

"Little spell gone wrong. Nothing to worry about," I say with a smile.

"Did the stupid elf help you?" Draco's eyes landing on Blinky like fire.

"Yes. Told me Lumos and Nox."

"Stupid elf," Draco said. "You could've killed her!"

"Blinky never meant to kill, sir," he says. "Only follow orders."

"You better get out of here before Master Lucius finds out what you did!"

Blinky makes a strange noise before disappearing.

"What were you thinking?" he snaps at me. "If you wanted to learn magic you could've asked me.” He looks around the room. “What happened anyway? You shook the whole house. Bet mum and dad are on their way here now."

"I said Nox," I started, "and flew across the room, hitting the wall. Then you burst in and… well you know how that ends."

Loud footsteps echo down the hallway. My breath catches in my throat, one step is gentle while the other is stern. It's strange that I can tell the difference just from their footsteps.

Father's face was the first one that I saw. Narcissa showed hers behind him, a look of relief painted on her face.

"What happened?" Father asks, looking about the room for any sign of danger.

"Just practicing a spell," I say calmly. Draco looks down at his feet.

Father's eyes lock onto mine. I can see all the rage behind them. My heart quickens, not knowing what is going to happen to me.

"Are you mad?" he asks me, walking into the room with anger. Why does he have so much anger?

"Father," Draco says, but stops the moment father looks at him.

"Anything could've happened to you!" Father says, grabbing my wrist so tight I thought he might break it.

"I didn't mean anything by it," I squeaked out. "I promise."

His eyes bore into mine, I wanted to look away but I didn't want him to have the satisfaction. I didn't mean to do anything wrong. Besides he is the one that bought me the wand. Why is he so bent out of shape?

"You don't understand," he says, pulling me over to my bed. "From here on out you only do magic in our presence. Do you understand me?"

He throws me on my bed. My wrist throbs from where he was holding. My hand instinctively pulls the hurt wrist closer to my chest.

"Lucius," Narcissa snaps. “We are better than this!"

He turns on his wife, eyes still blazing. The two have a staring contest until Father breaks eye contact first. I look between the three of them. Draco looks rather upset about this whole situation, where Narcissa looks as if she was stopping him from killing me.

"I'm sorry," Father says, turning back to me. "It's for your own protection."

"From what?" I snap, annoyed with everything going on around here. Why can't they give me a solid answer for once?

"Too dangerous," Narcissa says. "When the time is ready, we will tell you…"

I roll my eyes and turn away from them. Why do I feel like that's the answer I'm always going to get out of them?

Wasn't long until they were clearing out of my room. Narcissa closes the door behind her. Bobbles biting his cage. I reluctantly look over at him. It has been a while since he has stretched his wings.

I walk over to my window - that lays in the middle of my wall of books - and open it. A cold rush of wind dances around me. It felt good on my wrist. I look down at it, purple finger marks faintly appear. I don't believe Father meant to hold on that tightly. He is just trying to protect me…

Grabbing Bobbles’ cage, I lift it towards the window. Bobbles seems to enjoy the idea of taking a small fly around a little too much. I set him down on the seal before opening the cage door. He flies out with a rush.

Closing the cage, I place it back in its spot. Looking around the room I notice my wand still on the floor. I know Father said not to use magic without them being present, but the rush I got just by using a small light spell was incredible!

I pick it up and walk over to my bed. "Lumos." The end of the wand starts to glow.

A small smile appeared on my face. I have never felt like myself more than at this moment. Sitting here in my room at Malfoy Manor. My blonde hair, which was a shock at first but now absolutely loving. A brother who, yes, can be a little egotistical at times, but cares for me. A mom who is trying her best to make up for her mistakes. And a father, who has his own issues, but is actively (seeming to be) trying his best.

But the thing that is making me the most happy is this stupid spell.
