Chapter 6
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the shift passes by relatively quickly, as Gina spends 2% of it assisting their very limited number of customers, 8% of it completing her closing tasks, and the other 90% flirting with Deb and fantasizing about their extremely heated exchange. Before she knows it, Deb’s once again locking the doors. On the way out, as Deb is shutting off the store’s lights, Gina reaches over her shoulder and also hits the switch for the ‘broken’ TV to make sure it’ll turn back on in the morning.
“Warren doesn’t work again until Monday- it could have been fixed by then. He’ll never know.”
“Meticulous,” Deb comments. “If I ever need to rob a bank, I’ll know who to ask for help.”
Gina smirks, “I’d be honored. -As long as it’s a fifty-fifty split of the loot.”
Deb hums thoughtfully, “I’d do thirty-seventy?”
She passes through the office doors and Gina follows her,
“forty-sixty and you’ve got a deal.”
They both grab their things from the staff cubbies. Gina’s buzzing with excitement; obviously she’s excited that Deb totally wants her, but she’s also incredibly delighted that Deb also wants to hang out with her. They might not have said the word ‘date’, but it definitely isn’t not a date.
“Are you hungry?” Gina asks. “I could so go for some pizza. -I mean, I’d want to take you someplace a little nicer, normally, it’s just that it’s past midnight, so-“
“Pizza sounds perfect,” Deb interrupts gently. She’s smiling and it makes Gina’s heart flutter. Gina can’t stop herself; she leans in to kiss her again. Deb lets her; she kisses her tenderly, then roughly, then just as Gina’s about to push her up against something again, Deb pinches Gina’s belly. Gina breaks away,
“ow!”
Deb giggles, “sorry, but you’re not nailing me in the same place you nailed Rex Manning.” She tugs Gina with her towards the exit. “Let's go, I’m starving.”
Gina wants to think of something witty to say back- she also kind of wants to try and convince Deb that the couch was not used and is therefore still fair game. But she finds that all she can actually do is laugh.
The pizza place is mostly empty. Gina orders a margarita slice and Deb orders pepperoni, and then right before the guy closes the oven, Gina orders another plain slice.
“You said you were starving,” she says when Deb gives her a funny look, “we can share the third one.”
Deb keeps looking at her, and Gina waits for her to say something; the guy behind the counter comes back and tells them it’ll be $3.75. Gina starts to reach for her wallet but Deb beats her to the punch, handing the guy a five dollar bill.
“I was gonna pay,” Gina says.
Deb shakes her head, collecting her change and putting half of it into the tip jar, “you’re driving, so this is only fair.”
“I’m driving?”
Deb nods.
“Well, where are we going?”
“You’ll see.”
“You’ll see, you’ll all see,” Gina says in her best witch voice, lifting her hands and curling her fingers like they’re claws.
“God, for a second there I’d forgotten how much of a dork you actually are.”
“Yeah, well apparently, you like it.”
Deb doesn’t reply, but her blush gives her away. Gina beams. Their pizza comes out of the oven and they bring it on a plastic tray over to the only booth seat in the restaurant.
“Are you bringing me to a movie or something?” Gina guesses.
Deb chuckles as she bites off the corner of her slice. She wipes her mouth and says, “what, you wanna try to cop a feel during the new Die Hard?”
Gina grins, “right after our hands accidentally touch when we both reach for popcorn at the same time, baby.”
“You’d get fake movie theater butter on my tits.”
“Sounds hot.”
Gina starts staring at Deb’s chest; she’s got such a great rack, and this definitely isn’t the first time Gina’s noticed. She can see Deb’s mouth moving as she speaks,
“please tell me you’re not actually picturing butter all over my tits right now.”
“I’m not, I’m picturing your tits without butter.”
Deb reaches over and uses her index finger to lift Gina’s chin, drawing her gaze back to her face. “We’re not going to a movie,” she says. “Eat your pizza.”
Gina starts eating her pizza. She remembers how hungry she is; she’s moving onto their extra slice before Deb’s finished with her first.
“Don’t worry, babe, I’m splitting it down the middle,” she says, eating from the side like it’s corn on the cob. “I’d never leave you with just the crust.”
Deb chuckles and passes her another napkin. “My hero.”
She stands when she finishes her slice; Gina’s still chewing.
“Going so soon?” Gina asks with her mouth full.
“Yes, and I’m finishing that in your car.”
Gina stares as Deb takes the remaining half-slice from her.
“As long as you don’t make a mess,” she says after she finally swallows.
Deb smiles, “is that any way to talk to your date? C’mon.”
Gina grabs some napkins for the road and follows Deb, her date, out of the pizza place. The kiss Deb gives her once they’re outside makes her feel like she’s floating all the way back to the Empire Records parking lot.
