Chapter 2

Harry was just setting the plate of bacon down on the kitchen table while eyeing the cooking pancakes when he heard his aunt Petunia screech. " Boy" she yelled making him jump. He wasn't sure what he had done. His aunt was storming into the kitchen holding what looked like to be a Hogwarts letter, he paled seeing it. Well, that explained why she was upset; it must be his school supply list. He had been on the lookout for it, hoping to get a head start on shopping. He thought about slipping away when the Dursley were out.

" What is this " His aunt held the letter up in the air, her pale blue eyes flashing in rage, he hadn't seen her so upset since last year when his letter arrived. " Is this some kind of joke" she hissed slamming the letter down, he looked down in confusion when he spotted the name that was written on the letter.

Petunia Rose Evans

" What?" he frowned at the letter, " you have got some nerve" Petunia growled her hand hitting the counter catching the attention of Dudley who finally tore his eyes away from the Telly. " What? you think this was me? " Harry said in surprise.

" Well, who else could it have been" she snapped, Harry heard the footsteps of his uncle coming down the stairs having must of heard the commotion. " What wrong Pet" Vernon asked worried. The large man coming into the kitchen. " It wasn't me" Harry defended himself. Dudley appeared beside His mother, his eyes scanning the letter. " Mums got a letter " he said in shock and slight fear looking at his mother.

" what" Vernon boomed as he grabbed the old parchment off the counter and read through it, " it's a prank" Petunia said hands on her hips. There was no way she was a witch and what she understood of the wizarding world was that they had a system that could tell if one had magic or not. Harry looked from his aunt to uncle faces in worry. " What is the meaning of this boy, you think this is funny" Uncle Vernon yelled once he was through reading.

" Like I said I didn't do it" Harry snapped angry that he was being blamed for something he didn't even do. Petunia frowned, she could tell the boy was telling the truth, it didn't make sense for the boy to pull this.  "Watch your tone boy" Vernon warned.

Harry bit his lip hard.

Petunia ignored the old hope that she had thought she long shut away long ago, the hope that she could be a witch, to do the things her sister could do, when Lilly was able to make dead flowers bloom back to life, she had been so jealous. When Lilly was able to swing so high and jump and floated in the air. When Lilly was able to make her dolls move and perform a show.

When she had begged Dumbledore to let her go to Hogwarts and he had rejected her request telling her there was nothing special about her. She had envied Lilly and that awful boy Snape she had hung around.

" where's that owl of yours" Petunia snapped, " Hedwig?" he asked making her scowl, " yes, if that school of yours thinks this is some sort of sick joke, I am not going to take it' she hissed angry, she ignored the felling of hope. She pushed it deep down and shut the door and tossed the key.

" Go get her now" she ordered pointing to the stairs. She watched as the boy quickly went up the stairs to retrieve his pet owl, " what are you going to say?" Vernon asked her, " I don't know but this is rude and disrespectful " she said more to herself. Vernon frowned at her wording but said nothing. Petunia hated them, hated them for playing on her feelings.

" Those freaks never quit do they" he ranted.

Harry returned with his owl that was locked in her cage, Petunia had to admit that the snowy white owl was beautiful even for a bird. Harry set the bird down on the counter, Hedwig hooted yellow eyes that seemed to glare at Petunia.

Harry sniffed the air and paled, he turned to see he had left the pancakes too long in the pan, " shit" he quickly ran to turn the eye off, but it was too late, the pancakes were burnt. " Clean that mess up" Petunia hissed as she sat herself at the kitchen table, Vernon over her shoulder as she wrote a very long letter to that stupid cooky headmaster.

Harry sighed as he scrubbed the charred pan and got out another and return to finish making the pancakes. It wasn't long until he finally done and set the plate of pancake next to Dudley at the table, said boy was already digging in. Harry watched as his uncle and cousin piled their plates high with food while his aunt was fiercely writing.

Harry knew he was most likely going to be spending the rest of his summer locked in his room, he wondered who sent his aunt the letter though and what was the point? There was no way his aunt was a witch.

He shuddered at the thought of his aunt at Hogwarts.

" here" Harry was shook from his thoughts and looked up to see his aunt holding an envelope out to him, " have her deliver this to Dumbledore" she said her face looked like she sucked on a lemon, He nodded. " here" Uncle Vernon handed over the key to the padlock that was on Hedwig cage.

" Get that bloody bird out of the kitchen " he said looking at the owl in disgust, " who knows what diseases it has " he added as Harry held his tongue. Hedwig hooted and Harry had to hold back a smile, he was sure if Hedwig to speak she would have a nasty resort for his uncle. Harry grabbed the cage and made his way back upstairs to his bedroom. He unlocked the cage; he was glad that Hedwig would get some freedom at least and be able to hunt and stretch her wings.

" Here girl " he tied the letter to her foot, Hedwig affectionally nipped at his hair before taking off out the window, harry sighed wishing he could go to. He turned only to see his aunt standing in his doorway arms crossed.

" Making sure you actually sent it" was all she said before holding out a long list, " your chores" she said as he took it, " have them done by this evening, remember the Masons are coming over tonight, it's a very important night for Vernon" she said before leaving.

" Yes, aunt Petunia" Harry said while scanning through the list, it was long as usual.
