The Beginning Of The End
August 18th 1971
Mid summer 1971, Remus woke from his sleep jumping up as he saw a beautiful but rather frightening snowy owl appear at his windowsill carrying a letter in a white envelope with a bright red seal. He quickly pulled his nightgown on and headed for the stairs as he clutched the letter in his hand still in shock about owl that was still placed exactly how it was on his windowsill. He reached the bottom of the stairs now, at a steady pace he crept toward his mother who was hovering over the hob making breakfast, she was humming along to the radio that was blasting out David Bowie. He felt unusually nervous, a feeling he never felt about the the woman he loved the most. As Hope, his mother swiftly turned around she looked taken back as she eyed the letter in her sons hand, an expression Remus rarely saw from his mother.
“Oh, darling.” she muttered loud enough that Remus could make out, sounding quite sympathetic.
“what!?” He spat out with wide eyes.
”I guess it’s time we talk, you better sit down.”
Dear Mr John Lupin
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at
Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment, I have also addressed a letter to Hope Jenkins.
Term begins on September 1st.
Yours sincerely,
Albus Dumbledore
He was sat opposite his mother he listened to her for what felt like hours about his dad Lyall Lupin and all about the school he attended. Remus was aware he was a werewolf, he was aware his dad was a wizard, he was aware magic was real but him and his mother never spoke about any of it. Although he was not aware someone like him could be a wizard.
“How can a werewolf be a wizard.” he muttered under his breath watching as his mother went back to what she was doing.
He reread his Hogwarts acceptance letter at least ten times over in utter disbelief with his mother glancing over his shoulder probably feeling the same.
“Dumbledore, who’s that.”
“I believe he’s the headmaster, you will meet with him on your first day to arrange some thing’s, about the full moon, you know.”
“Oh, ok.”
The letter attached addressed to Remus’ mother stated that Dumbledore would meet with Remus to make arrangements, Remus could see the worry in Hope’s eyes, he didn’t blame her considering it was already mid August and there wasn’t much time until September 1st rolled around, he really wished he’d had sooner notice although he he heard his mother say she knew the letter was due so he supposed it was a bigger shock for him.
Since the letter came Remus often thought about magic, some days his head was so full of questions he thought he must ask but he never got round to it knowing his mother never liked talking about it. One part stuck out to him,
“Diagon Alley.” He spoke aloud sounding confused where the bloody hell is that he thought.
He thought he shouldn’t think on it too much, anyways this old Dumbledore guy was sending someone for him so he shouldn’t worry. His name was Rebeus Hagrid, apparently he worked at Hogwarts. For the next two weeks Remus spent his time thinking about Hogwarts, thinking about magic and his dad. What was it like doing magic?, could everyone there do it?. He thought he’d ask Hagrid instead of his mother, it was difficult for Remus to comprehend the idea of not seeing her so long. He wondered if she could get in touch or if she would even know how considering she was non magical, did other people at Hogwarts know non magic people?
