Awakening

"Let's go, Phemia," Harry insisted.

We ran to the forest, a very vibrant and full forest by our house and hopped across a path of sones in the stream to get to wear we need to be. That was our life — we were allowed out during the day, our father taught us how to get back home and how to find him we were lost. His name is James Potter, a nice man with a mind like no other, he had this ability to create practically anything as long as he put his mind to it. He taught us how to as well out here -- in the country away from everyone and everything. It was a nice life, a simple life anyone would ask for. It was the only life we remember, but I don’t think we were like this always.

Right now, my brother and I were chasing down a trinket we made — a bird made of scrap metal by dad collected from 'Ministry of Magic' the legal ground for us wizards. We arrived at a second with wonky trees, stopping to look around.

"This is where I saw it go down," I said, looking up at the trees. "Up there!"

I spotted the metal bird, flapping the clunky wings as hard as it can against the tug of the branches.

"I'll get it," Harry assured.

I rolled up my sleeves and corrected, "No, I got it and dad just fixed your glasses. Besides, I’m the better climber, spot me."

Without much protest, Harry fixed his glasses as he watched me climb up the tree. I swatted away the branches and stepped on the sturdiest ones until I made it to the bird. I tried to reach over, but it was too far for me to still hold the body of the tree. I let go and balanced on the branch to reach the bird. I untangled it and lost balance for a quick moment, but got it back rather quickly.

I smiled then said, "Nice!", before going back to the trunk and went down.

Harry took the bird from me before saying, "We need to work on the landing skills, maybe find a way for it to sense when it will bump into something."

I agreed before Harry added, "How do you have no fear when you were gonna fall?"

'Maybe for a second," I admitted. "But fear is all in the mind, brother."

"Harry, Ephie, come home!" Dad’s voice rang from the house.

Harry and I went back to our house through the forest, our dad made our house. It was a big house for our family, two stories high and a wide open field in the back. It was built right on the edge of the forest for it was easy to find. Our family was perfect for it, my dad and my twin, Harry Potter. I don't think we look much alike, I mean -- we both have black hair, both a bit unruly, but mine was a bit more frizzy than sticking out like Harry's was. Harry had green eyes like our mother, but I had brown ones like our father. Harry has round glasses and I had square ones that I only need to read. But, no matter what, Harry and I are best friend even though we were our only friends, we were still close to each other and our father. It's been just us for as long as we could remember, our mom died when we were babies. Dad never told us how, only that because of it - we have scars that are in the shape of a lightning bolt and everyone knew who we were.

Our mom is the reason I think we didn’t live here the whole time because she never came up in cries about building this place. All of it was before, which means so was she — just like our lives with the world. Dad kept us away from the world to give us a childhood and a good one we are having, we couldn't ask for a better dad. My scar is on my neck and Harry's is on his forehead, that's the most unique thing about us, I think. Dad said it's my smile, it reminded him of mom.

I don’t tell anyone this, but I had a dream one time that mom was this cool hero like I would read in books. I didn’t tell anyone in case I can come true one day. Maybe I could find out when I get to school.

Dad always said he would tell us when the time was right, when we had to go to school. You see, we have the option of going to a wizarding school called Hogwarts, it's actually almost our birthday and that's when we get our letters. There was no family with kids who live around us, or at least that's what we thought all this time.

(Play song 1) When we made it home, I placed my invention down on the entrance table and went to the living room as we heard him working on a music box.

We peered inside to see him working away as he sang to the tune, "How does a moment last forever, how can a story never die?It is love we must hold onto, never easy but we try."

Harry and I shared a smile before walking in and he went on, "Sometimes our happiness is captured... somehow a time and place stands still. Love lives on inside our hearts, and always will."

Dad slowly stopped singing then saw us, he smiled before saying, "Hey, kids, did the invention work?"

"Yes, I placed it on the front table," I said. "It got stuck in a tree, but I got it down."

"Good, I hoped that it did," Dad said, finishing the invention and went to place it on the mantel. "There, another for the collection. You know, your mom would do this," dad indicated the line of trinkets he had there. "She would have all the little things I did presented. Other than you two, she took a lot of pride in it."

Sometimes I think dad loved mom more than he loved himself, he loves us the same way — I can sense it.

"Soon, you'll be getting your Hogwarts letters," dad smiled, turning to us. "That's where your mother and I-"

"Said you loved each other," Harry interrupted.

"Then vowed to stay together," I added.

Dad laughed lightly before sitting between us on the couch, pulling us into a small hug.

"You both are amazing," dad smiled. "Now, why don't you two freshen up while I set the table, how does pizza sound?"

"Pepperoni this time," Harry and I chorused before we went upstairs.

We went to our rooms to wash our hands and face before the meal. I went out of my bathroom, grabbing a towel to dry my hands since there wasn’t one in there for me. When I did, I felt someone -- or rather something near me. I was gonna shake it off until I heard whispers so soft that it felt like only I could hear it. I looked around cautiously then out my window to see a blue ball of light. The next second it was gone, that was strange, I was gonna go see, but dad called after me. I shook it off then went downstairs and saw dad pacing back and forth.

"Change of plans, I got an idea, a brilliant one." Dad beamed. "Come on, Harry, get the supplies for the big project we were working on."

We exchanged looks of excitement then grabbed what we needed and made our way outside. It was a windy day, so we had our jackets on and trekked up a hill high enough for us to set up a machine. It was made of spare parts and forced gears.

Dad readied the project as he spoke, "As you know, we have been working on a way to bring electricity to the house so we can have a TV and all that without the generator we have."

"Clean energy," Harry rephrased.

"Exactly," Dad said, fixing some wires. "I changed it so that we can use the energy from the winds to power the house and if there is no wind, then we use the sun."

Dad took out a monitor and we put together the device.

"I think it's ready, with the height on this hill, we can get a continuous wind. Give me the wind speed, Euphemia," dad said.

I took out a device to measure and answered, "Twenty-five miles per hour, dad, with a wind speed like that, we could blow a fuse."

"It's a risk, but what's life without it," Dad reasoned. The family motto at this point.

He was gonna connected two wires, but Harry stopped him and connected the right ones.

"Thank you," Dad smiled. "All ready now. Come on, we press the button together."

We all shared a look then press the button together and the lights went on. We all cheered and dad hugged us both in delight till we saw the flickering of the light.

"Dad?" I called and pointed to the house.

He looked at the house then looked at the wind speed, and spoke, "That's not good."

The machine burst into sparks and the lights went out.

"We blew a fuse," Harry detected and I nodded.

We went home and dad lit the candles and we ate the food our father ordered.
"I told you so," I muttered as we ate and dad laughed lightly.

"Maybe sunlight would work better, and on hot days, the spare sunlight energy can be used during nights and rain days," Harry suggested.

"Yeah, so we don't get power outages so often," I agreed.

"Rest your minds for today, it's your birthday tomorrow, and you still haven't told me what you wanted," Dad said, getting another slice of pizza.

"What do you want, Harry?" I questioned.

"I haven't thought about it," harry confessed. "What about you, Phemia?"

I shrugged then said, "I wanted to learn to be an animagus like you, dad."

"Hmm, takes a long time," dad confessed.

My father was a special type of person, he could turn into a stag at will and he taught himself how to do that to help a friend. He told us the story of his friends many times, but we don't know their names. I know they called him 'Prongs' and the others were Mooney, Wormtail, and Padfoot... We have no idea who they are, but I do know that my dad was really close to them.

"You have to wait for the moon to be right and drink a potion," Dad explained.

"Then how about we go to Diagon alley," Harry suggested.

"All of us?" Dad questioned.

"Yeah, not just Gringotts with a cloak and hood," I agreed.

"You know why I want to keep you two away," Dad huffed. "The world will harass you both."

"Yeah, but we're gonna be eleven," I added. "And we're gonna start school soon, people are gonna see us."

"Wouldn't you ant to teach how to handle it with you so we can do with without you?" Harry added on.

Dad sighed as he set his glass down and said, "I never want you to to think you can’t need me — however, you two are getting better at getting your point across and your feelings so I will think about it."

Harry and I secretly fist bumped under the table before we continued eating and spent time reading and working on things with our father before it was time for bed. When I went to my room, I closed the door and immediately heard the whispering again. Only this time it sounded like a soft singing voice. I furrowed my brows, looking around before going to my window. I opened it and poked my head out to see a small blue light again in the forest. I was able to get a good look at it before it disappeared into the forest.

"What is it?" Dad questioned, walking in the room through the open doorway.

"There was a creature," I answered, looking out. I left my window open,, but closed the curtain slightly before saying, "I think it was a creature, it was hard to tell."

"Well, perhaps tomorrow we can go on an adventure," dad said, stretching his arms. The energy he drained from the day was getting to him, he placed his hands behind his back to stretch it out and sighed, "I'm feeling too old for adventure."

"It's cause you refuse to sit straight when you work," I told, getting into bed. "It's hard when you're concentrating," dad said. "I've always had that problem. Your grandmother would always drop an ice cube down my short while I was doing homework at the table."

"Is that who I was named after?" I asked.

"Yeah, Euphemia was my mother's name and the name of your mother’s favorite flower, Fleamount was my dad's name, my middle name," dad answered, tucking me in. "Your mother named you and your brother, gave you our names as your middle ones. I had to convince your mother for your name, but she had no problem giving Harry mine."

"Is it a tradition?" I asked. "You have your dad's name too."

"I think it's an old wizard tradition," Dad answered, sitting on the bed. "Okay, the moon has appeared to shower us with blessings."

I smiled, getting comfortable as dad started humming, fixing our blankets.

"Hey, dad," I spoke quietly. "When you sleep, do you dream of mom?"

Dad smiled softly and answered, "I try to... I remember when she was here, how she looked at the world. Her smile, her laugh... my favorite thing was her laugh. When she laughed really hard she would snort, just like you."

I giggled as dad picked my cheek and moved my hair out of my face as he said, "I try so hard to raise you as such, my bright girl, to have her heart. When I fall asleep remembering, I dream of her."

"I wish I remembered her," I said. "So then I can have a story to share with you."

"You are sharing one, you’re sharing yours,' Dad assured, running the ends of his fingers through the sides of my hair. "I know you and Harry will have a grand story one day and I will be so happy to be a part of it."

"You’re a main character, dad," I said, turning so I was on my side.

"Well," dad spoke, thinking for a moment. "That has to be the nicest thing someone said to me."

I gigged before dad said, "Time for bed." He kissed my forehead before saying softly, "May the moon bless you with sweet dreams… I love you, my Ephie."

"I love you, dad," I returned.

He got up and sang softly as he started to leave, "Ohhh... children... lift up your voice... lift up your voice..."

I closed my eyes to the sound of his voice as he turned off the dim lamp and loosed my door so that I may sleep. The ritual that calmed me down for sleep for as long as I remember. When he talked about mom , he smiled with a little sadness every time. He loved her, I knew that -- so I had to as well. She had to have loved me I know it. I feel asleep thinking about it... I know she loved me...

-

I stirred to the sound of whispering in my ear, it was louder now and much closer. I got up and saw the window still open and when I looked forward, I jumped. There it was, the little whisper before me, a small blue ball of light floating in front of me on my bed. I got scared, but a voice admitted from it.

"You're alright," It assured, floating closer to me. "Your destiny awaits."

It was a light and airy voice, like a whisper only a little more… spiritual. I saw the glowing figure move to outside of the window. I got up quickly and saw it going into the forest. I quickly got dressed and snuck out of the house with a lantern. It was something I never usually do, but for some reason I wanted to see where the whisper was gonna take me.

It met me at the edge of the forest, it lead the way through and so some reason, I wasn't scared at all. I went across the stream and past the farthest point Harry and I have ever traveled before. The figure didn't leave any track or trace, just magic that felt purer than anything.

I looked at it and asked as we walked along, "What are you?" It didn't respond, it just kept leading the way only now started moving faster. "Wait," I called, running after it.

It slowed down and whispered, getting closer to my face, "You're her spawn... You are one of them... there's another spawn... different destiny, important destiny. He starts it tonight..."

"What?" I questioned, very confused.

It started floating forward and I went to follow it, but two little fireflies stopped me. Only, there was something off about these bugs, they were inventions that were made out of metal and their lights were light bulbs, they made a zippy noise as they flew past me. Did my dad make these? They showed the way to a still form of water, I went up to the edge of the lake, hearing the water from it echo around me and the coolness of it on my skin. The only night showing me the water was the fireflies over it until I felt a warmth. I looked up to a clearing of cloud to show the moon light, beaming down at me.

It wasn’t shining anywhere else, but on me like a spotlight.

"Sing..." The whisper instructed. "Show you're the true spawn..." "Sing?" I questioned. "Like a song?"

"It's the way of your people..." The whisper said.

"My people?" I replied. "What are you talking about-"

I was cut off when I heard a laugh from the distance, it rang around me like a chime. (Play song 2)

'I've never felt so strong...' A voice sang softly around me. 'I'm invincible, how could this go wrong? No, here, here's where I belong."

The laugh again... so light and playful.

"Mom...?" I trailed off in disbelief. "Her spawn... are you talking about my mom?"

"I see a road ahead," mom's voice rang. "I never thought I would dare to tread..."

The whisper came up to her and ordered gently, "Sing from the heart... like she did..."

I thought for a moment as something came over me and I closed my eyes before singing softly, "Like an image passing by, my love, my life."

I saw the forest around me flickering before going on, "In the mirror of your eyes, my love -- my life. I can see it all so clearly, all I love so dearly." The forest lit up around us slowly as the song echoed on in the forest to reveal a grand lake before me with a stunning water fall.

"Images passing by, like reflections of your mind, my love -- my life," I went on, looking around for the voice again. "Are the words I try to find, my love -- my life. But I know I don't possess you, with all my heart, god bless  you. You are still my love and my life... you're my one and only."

"You are..." The whisper glowed.

It floated around me and went to the lake to tell me it wanted me to go on. I didn't know why, but I felt the urge to take a step forward even though I could sink. I set the lantern down, I went up to the edge, the moon light still shining on me as I stepped on it. I was still on the surface, it was as if there was a platform at the bottom that kept me up. When my foot hit it, the water around it started glowing. I was in awe and mom's voice came back, "I held you close to me"

It was going around me and I flowed it, gliding on the water like a skater, the light following as I did, bleeding into the lake, bringing it back to life.

"Felt your heartbeat and I thought I am free," Mom rang as I saw the strange magic go to every life around me. "Oh, yes and one are we. In the now and beyond..."

The wisp howled then splashed me causing me to squeal with laughter and I glide away.

"Like an image passing by, my love -- my life," I smiled, looking around the place. "In the mirror of my life, my love -- my life. I can see it all so clearly, all she loved so dearly."

"Images passing by," Mom sang.

This time, it was coming from the shining waterfall before me as a soft image appeared of a woman smiling, blurred out by the water running down.

"Like reflection of your mind," Mom, it was her singing to us in the crib.

We sang together, "My love -- my life, are the word I try to find, my love -- my life. But I  know I don't posses you, with all my heart god bless you, you are still my love and my life."

I stopped singing to watch my mom as the image was clearer now, "But I know I don't possess you... with all my heart, god bless you. You are still my love and my life."

"You're my one and only..." I finished with her as the image faded.

I didn't notice that the whole section of the forest lit up until I see my mom smile and slowly fade away.  I stepped back, looking around and heard her voice ringing through the area. The whisper floated around my head and came face to face with me.

"You are the spawn... a being of the moon like she was," The whisper told me.

"A being of the moon?" I questioned very confused.

"Step closer... see what destiny brings you," The whisper portrayed. "Find your answers."

I looked at it then at the waterfall before me, mom was in there... this is... crazy, for one. However, things in my mind were screaming at me to do it. I took a breath before going in and suddenly I was seeing it all.

Mom was looking at me and Harry, crouching by our crib as she said softly, "Harry, Euphemia, you both are so brave. You both are my everything, both of you will become more than I could ever be. It's your destiny... I love you both so much take care of each other take care of your father. Momma loves you and will always be with you." The scene changed multiple times and my mom with soft white wings that glowed brightly in the moonlight. It showed her with a sword and a suit of armor.

She was fighting with skill and precision, no one could beat her. She was fighting, winning battles and suddenly showed her standing tall, heroism was seeping from her persona. There was no mistake...

I walked out with a gasp and spoke, "Mom was a warrior!"

3rd person pov:

Meanwhile, at home, Harry was in his room when he got a strange dream.

It is your destiny...

Flashes of the future went through his mind. 'Mom was a warrior!' 'She was a verta.'  Harry saw a place filled with shops and a crooked cobblestone pathway. 'I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy.' 'Ron Weasley.' 'I'm Hermione Granger.' Harry saw a very old looking hat and heard a distant singing voice. 'Gryffindor!' 'Verta!' 'You filthy little half-blood!' 'The Philosopher's stone, that's what's in the trapdoor, that's what Fluffy is guarding!' Harry saw a girl with short hair, pale skin, and a blue dress, she was trapped. Harry saw his sister get injured in battle and blood splat on a mirror. 'You can't go, Euphemia!' 'I have to go, or he wins, I have to fight. It's what mom would have done.' 'Is he? Is he a tutela?'

Use this gift wisely, baby prongs...

Harry woke up with a gasp the next morning and heard his father searching for his sister. Little did he know that another person was there that night, wondering what was happening and what it means for their fate.
