A Drink, a Cigarette, and a Summer Plan
It was late when they decided to leave the bar, joking and laughing. Sirius had his arm around Lily, clearly drunk, but she had other plans. They walked the cold frozen streets back to the Hogwarts campus. When they got there Lily pulled him off and Remus was left glaring at their backs. Everyone dispersed from the sidewalk leaving him to stand alone in the dim street light. He took a step and then he was off, to where, I think you know where. Remus walked and walked until he stood in front of his window staring at Sirius’s bare back as Lily wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close for a kiss.
It felt like a match had been struck and he was a light. He stood there burning as Lily undressed and took Sirius in all of his glory. Remus watched, a cigarette making a small bright sunspot in the dark green before the window. Eyes shifted to stare at the window, where he was, and Sirius’s eyes met his and he held them before Sirius pulled his eyes away as if nothing was truly there and focused back on her. Remus dropped the cig, stomped it out, and turned away, walking back to his dorm.
When he arrived, Remus fumbled with his keys and opened the lock before falling in dejected but determined. He changed out of his clothes and started the kettle for some hot chocolate. He had purchased one before going to the university since he couldn't stand a night without a cup. He readied the chocolate powder, adding in his own chunks of sweet milky chocolate to it and mini marshmallows, then once the water was ready poured it in and mixed. He sat at his computer, a document open, black with the type bar blinking at him as if wanting to be filled with words. Then Remus started to write, words flying onto the page, dark thoughts, warm thoughts, and bloody thoughts flowed onto the page and then he stopped, a poem written, finished. He closed the doc, his mind clear as he finished his hot chocolate, got into bed and drifted off to sleep, eager for the morning.
The next day passed by fast, Remus was now a part of the inner circle, he was invited to sit with Sirius and his friends, being ignored but at least acknowledged by them. They went out for drinks frequently, he was no longer asked to pay after Sirius got into a heated argument with Steve and he was dropped out of the group, no fault of Steve really but Remus had to start somewhere, didn’t he? Sirius would spend his free time with Remus, going over school work or talking about life, Sirius began to depend on Remus, he was his best mate and closest friend much to Remus’s delight. He would invite Remus to parties and he would go, watching Sirius’s back and making sure he found a girl at the end of the night, not to his pleasure but whatever he could to make him like him more.
Eventually, it was the end of the year, both passing their exams, easy for Remus but a struggle for Sirius, luckily a special someone was willing to help him study. The year was coming to an end and Remus wondered what would happen next? He had heard of being invited to the infamous Black household of Grimmauld Place but maybe that wasn’t in the cards as Sirius had yet to say something. It was later, when they went out for drinks with the little amount of people left in the inner circle where Sirius asked on their way back to the dorms, the day before the end and the start of summer. He pulled Remus aside and asked if he wanted to join him at Grimmauld Place for the summer to spend time and meet his family. Remus, of course, accepted and a bright smile broke across Sirius’s face as he blabbered about the car that would take him from his place of living and how he would need his address and what not. Remus had succeeded in his plan to become someone close to Sirius, all he had to do now would be to make sure he stays.
