Chapter 1.
The rain was pouring down hard on the streets of Willesden he heard glass shatter.
There must have been an altercation somewhere in the pub he was sitting in, tension always rose over the winter in these parts of the city.
Marcus had always lived in the shite parts of London, although it had generally gotten better
when he was younger, He and his mother had lived above the shitty convince store she used to work at,
that dump had had two rooms, one was the kitchen where they had somehow dragged their old fucked up couch so the two rickety chairs with no table weren’t the only thing in the small space.
The other room was empty besides the old mattress Marcus and his mother had shared back then.
He was glad that now with his little brother they had been able to move away from that place, his mom and Denis dad had a room for the self and although Marcus still had to share with Denis himself, and with his older brother Conrad moved out the space had been a lot more comfortable even with that dickhead still visiting every other day,
Not that Marcus knew much of that he spent most of his time at Hogwarts, where neither of his brother went Conrad just didn’t want to deal with “all the elites snob” he never had an interest in magical education that went any further than the basic spells their mother had thought them he preferred living and working in the muggle world,
Denis though fascinated by magic had never inherited the ability from his mother instead he stayed non magical like his father Dave.
Marcus didn’t really have an opinion on Dave, the guy was a bit daft for sure, but he was good for his mother and as much as he loved her how Irene Petrov didn’t scare this very usual guy away immediately was still a wonder to him.
Right now, that same crazy woman was standing on the other side of the bar Marcus was sitting at spaying water at one of the guys that had tried to start a fight with one of the leather jacket wearing bikers that probably thought they were to cool to catch a common cold.
Guys like that came in here a lot and if his mother wasn’t incredibly proficient in hexing guys that were staining her neves, he would probably be worried about he safety but as it was he’d seen her kick a guy twice her size in the balls after said guy had given loud mouthed eight year old Marcus a black eye. She’d also hexed him with a stinging curse but that was something no one needed to know.
“Mom!” He knew how to raise his voice, so it was heard over the loud chatter in the bar “what is it sweetheart!” The gravely undertones of her voice carried her words over to him and if his face was more set up for it he probably would have smiled “ I’m going home”he had already started getting up before she answer the question he hadn’t wanted to ask “you’ll be able to male it to the Tarim alone tomorrow?” He only nodded before she took his face n her hands “I’m sorry I can’t bring you I’ll try to get time of next time ok” he smiled weekly at her it wasn’t her fault her boss was a bloody arse.
She continued by squishing his cheeks “I’m so proud, almost done with your 5th year now” he rolled his eyes and pulled his face from her hands “I still have half the year to get through and they’ll be exams two” some guy stared waving impatiently at them from the other side of the pub, she only screamed a quick “I’ll be there in a sec” at him before turning back to Marcus “just be good yeah?” He nodded silently agin she had gotten a few to many letters from Hogwarts about his behavior last year he didn’t want to worry her more “I’ll try “she grinned at him before they both slipped away Marcus to leave the pub to go to their run down flat and his mum to sell more suckers more drinks.
When he unlocked the flat, the lights were already turned out and Marcus tried to be as quiet as possible so he wouldn’t wake Dave and his little brother.
The flat was as run down as ever but after coming in from the cold dark grey streets it always felt homey, he walked through the living room that had a still kind of fucked up but now bigger couch in it.
Brushing his teeth and doing his business didn’t take long and he was relived when he could finally slip into his bedroom.
When he returned home over the holidays the always forced Denis to sleep on the top bunk so he would get the lower one, it was only fair he was older, and Denis had both options the rest of the year.
His little brother would get up early tomorrow only to see Marcus of and he couldn’t help but feel a little bit warm at the though that Conrad would probably show up earlier two, must likely with bagels of some other food dad liked so he wouldn’t force them to be quiet before he had to go to work at his stupid desk job, sitting in an office all day doing nothing but counting numbers and organising papers seamed like hell to him but that was probably why he hadn’t dropped out of Hogwarts yet,
He sighed silently he wasn’t exactly sad to go back to the school tomorrow, but he never felt much excitement either.
He had just never found his people there here he had a bunch of the street kids that liked him already if not only for the fact that he was strong and had some bite to him, at Hogwarts he ironically always felt small compared to the school and its inhibitors, he turned on his side to force himself away from staring at the ceiling, at lets he’d be able to play quidditch again he’d have to practice as much as he could to keep up with all the players who were able to play over the holidays.
He felt his eyelids grow hey before he finally sunk into a comfortable sleep.
