Chapter 11
Alessia
Alessia isn’t feeling confident ahead of the match up against Arsenal. So she does what she always does when she’s feeling stressed. She bakes. As she potters away in the kitchen her game night jitters start to ease. She pulls out the final tray from the oven; she lets the cakes cool while she tidies up the dishes. She has always been one to clean as she goes and could never fall asleep knowing there was a mess in the sink downstairs. Once she's dried off the final bowl she makes a start on assembly. It's a simple Victoria sponge that she has made a million times before. She knows the recipe by heart but still keeps the little notes her mum wrote open on the side next to her just in case. There’s something therapeutic she finds with the assembly. Once completed she steps back to admire her handy work and take a picture.
Leaning against the side in the kitchen she selects the best looking picture and opens her messages to send it. Leah and her have been messaging pretty consistently for the last week but it's mostly pictures of Leah's family dog and Alessia's dinners she cooks.
Alessia (23:47) *Picture attached
Leah (23:47) Alessia Russo why are you awake right now?!?
Alessia (23:48) You can’t be shouting you’re awake too!
Leah (23:48) But I am in bed, you are in your kitchen!
Leah (23:48) The cake does look amazing btw
Leah (23:48) But it's tarnished by the fact you are awake at midnight the night before a match!
Alessia (23:49) It does look good doesn’t it
Leah (23:49) You can’t just ignore the messages about you being awake and only reply to the compliment about the cake Russo.
Alessia (23:50) I absolutely can.
Leah (23:51) Beating you tomorrow is going to be so much less satisfying if I know it's just because Man U’s star striker is sleep deprived.
Alessia (23:51) What makes you think you are winning tomorrow?
Leah (23:51) I can just feel it.
Leah (23:51) I can feel it in my bones.
Alessia (23:52) That’s both very wholesome and mildly ominous.
Alessia (23:52) What else do your bones tell you or do they just predict match outcomes?
Leah (23:53) Pretty much just arsenal scores as far as I can tell.
Alessia (23:54) Good job you play for Arsenal then
Alessia (23:54) Would be a really useless talent if you stuck with being an accountant!
Leah (23:55) Ha ha ha
Leah (23:56) Right Russo
Leah (23:56) Time for bed
Leah (23:56) I’ll see you in the morning.
