there are many things that i would like to say to you
In a matter of minutes, the once warm Potter manor became flooded with teenagers and music. There was buzzing laughter and conversation that could be heard from anywhere in the house. There were people in the pool, the backyard, the porch, the balcony, and the downstairs. Anywhere you looked you could see an empty red cup, chucked out of the way. There were people making out on the grass, the couch, and even some on the floor. Mary had been running around taking pictures of people on her digital camera, which Regulus had been a victim to quite a few of.
“Reg look!” another white flash to his eyes. Mary and Lily had appeared beside him and were interrogating him on the girls that were there, asking which one of them he liked the most.
“Reg!” Someone called, “Get over here we're taking shots!” That voice belonged to Evan Rosier, Pandora’s twin brother. They looked remotely the same, except his dreads were short. Regulus pushed through the crowd, away from Lily and Mary, and made it to the table that his friends were surrounding. There were cups with vodka in them, he picked one up and slammed it to the back of his throat with his friends. They all winced at the foul taste and laughed.
Regulus found himself walking back through the crowd in the living room and going upstairs. The music was so loud. He was hot, yet felt like a freezing hollow skeleton at the same time. His clothes were rubbing up against him. His hair wouldn't get off of his face. People wouldn’t stop talking to him. James and Sirius were nowhere to be found. He needed air.
Regulus went to the one place he knew no one would be: James’ balcony. As he walked through the doorway, he stepped out and closed the door behind him. The music was muffled. Check. The night-time air was cool. Check. He sat down so that his clothes would bother him less. Check. He grabbed the hair tie that Marlene had asked him to hold for her off of his wrist earlier and used it to put his hair up in a ponytail at the top of his head. Check.
Regulus sat on James’ chair for a while and let himself zone out. Thinking about everything, and nothing, at the same time.
“What are you doing out here Reggie,” James slurred out. Regulus practically jumped out of his seat. He was significantly less drunk than James, so he caught himself quickly. Check.
“Just a lot going on down there. I can leave if you want?”
“No! No, stay. Do you mind if I join you?”
“Go ahead,” Regulus answered, “why are you up here anyways?”
“Smoke break,” James locked eyes with Regulus and grinned, “I didn’t want people coming up to me and asking for any. You can have one though, if you want.” James pulled out a little box from his pocket that was filled with joints. You could tell that he had gotten Remus to roll them by their individual neatness.
“Sure.” James passed one to Regulus and the lighter along with it. For a while, they just sat and smoked. Not talking, because Regulus couldn’t do that right now.
“Did you see Sirius anywhere? I couldn’t find him,” James finally said, breaking the silence.
“Nope,” Regulus answered, “I thought he was with you.”
“Maybe he was,” James let out a laugh, “I sort of just ran off.”
Regulus laughed with him. It was nice. When Regulus didn’t want to talk to anyone, he was always okay with talking to James. James understood him, like he does with anyone. He knows when to fill an awkward silence, he knows when to not touch someone, he knows how to calm people down. Like he just did with Regulus. It was like magic. Just being in James’ presence was enough to make him feel warm again. He was like the sun.
“Look, that's us!” James pointed down to the backyard at two people talking. One was wearing red and the other was wearing green.
Regulus laughed.
“Do you think you want to go back down?” James asked eagerly.
“Sure,” James plucked the hair tie out of Regulus’ hair as he stood up and opened the balcony door back into James’ room. As soon as James stood up his hand found itself curled around Regulus’ waist. The hand was like fire, but in a good way. It was like Regulus could feel any bit of sadness or anger in his body leave through where James’ hand was. Regulus looked up and smiled at James, who was already looking at him.
The two made it downstairs and got significantly more drunk, James’ hand stayed on Regulus.
Suddenly, a girl with brown straight hair appeared next to Regulus, snatching him away from his home in James’ arm.
“I’m Maya. Regulus right?” She giggled. She had her hand on Regulus’ chest, which he hated.
“Uhh yeah?” Regulus looked up at James, who was staring at Maya with pure jealousy. She began roaming her hands anywhere and everywhere on Regulus’ body. Her touch was cooler, like ice. He missed his sun. James nudged him and Regulus gave him a look that said, help. James gave him a comforting smile and opened his mouth.
“Hey Maya?” James asked with a smile.
“What,” She was obviously annoyed by the interruption.
“Can you please fuck off?” With that he grabbed Regulus and picked him up. He walked him over to a couch and sat him down.
“Thank you James,” Regulus slurred out. He leaned in to hug James. James met him halfway and Regulus could feel the coldness of Maya's touch leaving his body at any point of contact between the two.
“Any time,” James answered, “Are you okay though? You seemed panicked.”
“Yea i’m fine she was just a bit..,” Regulus paused to find the right word, “..touchy.”
“I could tell.” James answered. They sat there until they heard a familiar guitar intro come from the speakers in the house.
James let out a gasp and whipped his head over to face Regulus. “We need to go dance!” He said excitedly.”
“Okay but just this once.” Regulus said, trying not to sound too eager, because who wouldn’t want to dance with James Potter to his favorite song? James gripped Regulus’ wrist and led him to a group of people who all had the same reaction to the song as he did.
Comin' out of my cage and I've been doin' just fine
Gotta, gotta be down because I want it all
“I told you you couldn’t put this on!” Regulus tried to act annoyed, but his smile wouldn't comply.
Secretly, he didn’t care what song was playing, he didn’t care where he was, he didn’t care what was happening. All he cared about was how good James looked when he was happy.
James was jumping around and singing along to the lyrics. A huge smile was on his face. The whole time, James was looking at Regulus. His hand still hadn’t left Regulus’ wrist.
Let me go
And I just can't look, it's killing me
They're taking control
James grinned at Regulus in anticipation of the chorus. As soon as it started, everyone was singing.
Jealousy
Turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibi
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside
Regulus and James were jumping and dancing, holding both hands, and singing to each other.

Unfortunately, Maya, the literal spawn of Satan and hater of all things good, decided now would be the perfect time to throw up on James’ back.
“Oh my God EWW!” James screeched, “I think someone just threw up on me!” He muffled a gag.
“It was Maya. I actually hate her so much,” Regulus began to lead James upstairs to his room by his wrist, so he could change.
Luckily, Maya had missed most of James. She had only hit part of his shirt with her projectile vomit.
When they got to James’ room, Regulus made himself comfortable and sprawled out on James’ bed. He was laying on his stomach and his hands propped up his head.
What had happened quickly settled in James’ mind when they were away from the music and he started gagging. James had ripped off his red shirt and revealed his torso. God, he was so hot. His muscles were prominent in the moonlight and Regulus couldn't help but stare at his abs while he was frantically running around the room and panicking.

Unfortunately, Regulus was caught when James looked at the boy on his bed and saw him staring directly at his stomach.
“My eyes are up here, love. Stop trying to peek at my abs,” James said with a giggle.
“Then why are they looking at me like that?” Regulus defended himself. Both of the boys bursted out into laughter for a while.
“Sorry we had to leave downstairs so I could change,” James apologized.
“It's not a problem, James,” Regulus looked at him with a genuine smile, “There’s a lot going on down there I needed a break anyways.”
James, completely forgetting about his task of getting a new shirt said, “Okay, do you want to stay up here for a bit?”
“If that's okay with you, yea.” Regulus responded. Without a word, James walked over and plopped himself down onto the bed, he grabbed Regulus and maneuvered him so that he was laying on James’ bare chest. James wrapped his arms around him. Regulus looked up at James and let out a light chuckle when he saw how huge the smile on James’ face was.
Regulus thought that if he died right there, he would be content with his life.
They laid there, not talking, for a while. Song after song played and no one said a word. James’ hand was playing with Regulus’ hair and twisting it about.
Regulus broke the silence. “I don’t think I want to go back downstairs. Just let me know when you’re ready and I can go back to my room.”
“See, I totally would, except I'm extremely busy right now with your hair.”
“Oh God, am I going to wake up with one big knot on the top of my head?”
“Yes, probably,” James answered nonchalantly, “Don’t move, I'm actually having the time of my life right now.”
Regulus laughed at the absurdity.
He quickly realized that he was getting tired. Really tired.
“James i’m about to fall asleep,” he tried to move his way out of James’ grasp, but the muscular arms around him wouldn't budge.
“Noooo Reg,” James whined in a tired voice, “Stay, you can sleep here.” Regulus knew he would regret this in the morning. He knew that this was a bad idea when James had no feelings for him that were anything other than platonic. But Regulus also knew that he simply did not care.
“Okay fine.” Regulus tried to sound annoyed but all that came out was a flattered giggle. He could feel his face heating up.
Regulus fell asleep fast after the shock of where he was wore off.
