Draco grinned upon hearing that the hat sorted her into their own house. He always thought that it would place her in Gryffindor, just like her brother, but it put her in Slytherin. In Slytherin! He cannot believe his luck that not only he thinks he was able to bring back their friendship for a little while when he helped her in the chocolate frog, she was also a Slytherin like him.

He first saw her at Madam Malkin’s last year, waiting for his brother while he’s waiting for her mother to come back so they had a little time to chat. It has been a lovely chat and he had hoped to see her again soon once the school term ends. Even extended the friendship offering to her brother, only to be dismissed because of a particular gingerhead.

Then it continued with endless rebutals of bickerings, and bullying. He may have thought of the black-haired girl in Diagon Alley but can’t stop himself from still releasing nasty comments and remarks of the trio. Those trio who always get themselves into trouble.

It was only then when he met her again in Diagon Alley this year, specifically in Flourish and Blotts, that he discovered that her brother already made an impression on him. Then he saw her on Hogwarts Express. He remembered trying to hide his laughter about her surprise at the figures leaving the chocolate frog card, especially when the chocolate jumped out of her hand. It leapt off on her hair, and that’s where he approached her and helped her.

“Thank you,” she softly said. “I’ll be going back now.” Her face is flushed, red with blush. He can’t help but grin at the sight.

“See you at the sorting, Eleanor.”

Then the first years came upon the Great Hall. He extended his neck to look upon the gleaming first years and saw her beside a redhead girl, which he assumed was another Weasley. She’s looking back at the tables every now and then and that’s when he noticed that Potter is not there yet.

“Potter, Eleanor!”

He had to fight the laughter urging through his lips when he saw her eyes shut tightly. Her forehead’s creasing and her eyes shutting tighter. The hat must be talking to her then. “Slytherin!”

She’s almost close to tears when the hat announced her house, the same time as the Slytherin Table emerged to applause and the Gryffindor Table shut down their noises. They must be expecting for her to be put in Gryffindor. Despite seeing Eleanor shed tears and trying to talk to McGonagall, he turned to Crabbe beside him. “Bugger off!” He pushed him aside and waited for the girl to walk to their table.

She walks towards their table at a slow, sad pace. He would have been sad for her but he knows he’ll be there to annoy the hell out of her to keep her sadness away. “Here, Eleanor!” he yelled and motioned for her to walk to him, which she nodded to. She sat beside him and stayed still.

“Still remember me?” He grinned at her but she did not interact. Only looked so bland at the plate in front of her and sobbed. He took a deep sigh and put his hand on her back. “Hey, Eleanor.”

“I’m fine,” she said in a small voice, and continued bowing down. He frowned as they ate. Not only did the witch beside him not talking to him, also, the said witch isn’t eating anything. It has been a few minutes of the feast when Eleanor twisted her neck upon the entrance of the Great Hall. “Harry,” she whispered.

She stood up and ran towards her brother and hugged him from the back. They talked for a little while until the little witch came back and started eating. It only takes for her to see and talk to her brother for her to eat.

The moment they went to the Dungeons and the Slytherin head girl explained the things needed to be discussed for the first years, he watched Eleanor go to their designated dorm rooms and stayed there. All first years have gone to bed and only a few second years including his circle and some higher years are left in the common room when Professor Snape, his godfather and their own head of house, entered. “Listen, everyone,” he said in his monotone kind of voice. “One of your new house members is the sister of Potter. Remember our rules— we protect our own.”

It’s his only words before he walked out, and honestly, Draco would not need that at any time. He knows he would protect the girl, may she be Potter’s sister or not.

Everyone had gone to bed. He also had convinced his friends to go to their own dormitories and so he was the only one left in the common room. It had been his hobby since first year; staying in the common room late at night until sleep got to him and he practically had to drag himself up to their dorm room.

“And where are you going?” He squinted his eyes as Eleanor made her way towards the common room in her cute little white and pink flannel pyjamas.

Eleanor stopped on her tracks and Draco immediately bit his lower lip to stifle his grin as he realized that the girl was up to something. Her face immediately became red and her fingers started fidgeting in front of her. Salazar, it’s only her first night, and she’s now up to something such as sneaking off during curfew. “D-Draco,” she stammered.

“I said…” He stepped forward towards her, expecting her to step backwards, but instead, she stayed on the same spot. “...where are you going? It’s curfew, Eleanor.”

“Nowhere,” she answered. Her former shock was already evident on her face, instead, she held her head up as if she’s not planning something else.

Draco snickered and nodded. “Alright, I’ll go to bed, then.” He started walking to the staircase and climbed a few steps until he heard Eleanor sneaking out of the common room. He waited for a few more hours but Eleanor didn’t come back.

It took him a few pats before he opened his eyes, realizing he had fallen asleep in the common room. “What time is it?” he asked Theo.

“Seven in the morning,” he answered and frowned as Draco pushed himself off the couch and sat. “What the hell are you doing? You know you have a bed in our dorm, don’t you?”

He snickered at his friend. He opened his mouth to ask him a question when the door to the common room opened and it revealed a leaping Eleanor. She has a broad smile on her face and holds a bowl of strawberries in her hand. “Where have you gone?” Draco asked.

“Nowhere,” she shook her head and smiled brightly; he could almost see the sun missing in their dungeon. “I’ll now prepare for my first class.”

He and Theo’s gazes followed her steps as she disappeared on the steps, until Theo finally choked up in laughter. “She didn’t spend the night here, did she? Salazar, rule breaking on her first night!”

Draco shook his head, grinning. Looks like Hogwarts gained another rule breaker this year.

Eleanor stomped her feet as she made her way towards the couch of their common room. She drops her bag off in annoyance, making Draco almost jump at her sudden action before she pulls a parchment out of her bag. “What are you on about?”

“Defence Against the Dark Arts is rubbish!” she snapped. “I always thought highly of it because of what the name implies, but the professor only tells us tales of his adventures! They’re rubbish!”

It’s been a week since the term started and Eleanor already knows the subjects she likes and dislikes— mostly because of the professor that teaches it. She also made up her mind already about her house, and decided it to be rubbish to hate on it, and onto the other houses as well. Overall, she concludes that house rivalry and prejudice around the school is utterly nonsense and nonsensical. Some of her opinions are influenced by her brother’s and Hermione’s opinions, mostly were hers solely.

Draco scoffed in agreement. “Lockheart? Of course he doesn’t make any sense. He’s a fraud!”

“He is?” Eleanor’s eyes widened at what he said and looked at him. “How? How did you know?”

“Well…” Draco shrugged and set his arms on the back of the couch, wearing the smug grin Eleanor has been used to seeing since the term started. “I don’t know, maybe it’s for you to know.”

She squinted her eyes on him before rolling it and standing up. “You know what?” she said as she grabbed her bag. “You’re really annoying.”

“Oh come on, I’m your friend,” Draco laughed as he stood up. “Anyways, I have to go get ready for class. See you around.”

She shook her head when Draco started walking up the stairs before going out of the dungeons. Harry and his friends have their classes at this time and she has a vacancy, so she walks towards one of the hidden parts of the library.

She started humming as she prepared the books she will be needing in her study session. Transfiguration, Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts Grade 1—

“What’s this?” She frowned when she saw a notebook inserted inside her DADA book, which is all new until now because that’s not the book that Lockheart required. It’s a black notebook, with blank pages. This is the first time she had seen this notebook. It’s the same size as the notebooks in the muggle world and stacked neatly inside her book, and it has a name engraved on it.
