I. The rumor at Hogwarts
âI wonder if Iâm lateâŠâ, Finney Blake says to himself while looking at his watch. He sighs as he looks away, deciding to play with his hands because of boredom. A âguideâ was supposed to come and fetch him at exactly quarter to 11 in the morning, that was 30 minutes ago. âIf only I stayed at BeauxbatonsâŠâ, Finney mumbles as he fetches his wand from his cloakâs pocket.
Â
Finney Blake observes the beautiful piece of wood in his hands, staring at it as if anything about it was going to change. âMr. Blake, I believe?â, someone suddenly says, making Finney Blake jump from his seat. The fifth year student immediately looks up to see who is talking to him and why does it know his name.
Â
âYes, he is I.â, Finney answers, pausing after approving his identity to the stranger in front of him. The man was tall and good-looking, old enough to become a Professor. âAnd, may I perhaps know who you are Mr..?â, Finney continues before standing up as he places his wand back in his cloakâs pockets.
Â
âMr. Black. But, Iâd rather have you address me as Sirius Black. Pleasure to meet you, kid.â, Sirius says before turning around to walk over to a carriage. Finney doesnât move, instead he looks at the beautiful carriage in front of them. The carriage was obviously hand-made with beautiful carvings surrounding the work of art. Finney has extreme interest in woodcrafts, a reason why he was known as an excellent crafter back in his old school.
Â
âWell, arenât you going to join us?â, Sirius suddenly says, making Finney avert his gaze from the carriage to Sirius. Without thinking twice, Finney Blake lets his eyebrows furrow. Confused was an understatement to describe what Finney is currently feeling.
Â
âJoin you where? In a carriage that doesnât have anything that would help it move?â, Finney asks, genuinely confused. Sirius laughs, not at Finney but at what he said. âDonât tell me you donât see them, Mr. Blake.â, Sirius says while smiling widely.
Â
âJust call me Finney, sir. And I have no idea what youâre talking about.â, Finney says, finally walking towards Sirius and at the beautiful carriage. Sirius looks away to look at something by the front of a carriage where a horse is usually at. âYou donât see the Thestrals?â, Sirius asks as he walks over to the front of the carriage.
Â
Finney, feeling intrigued and curious, shakes his head sideways. âNo, I donât see them. But, of course itâs Thestrals! Sorry, sir⊠Shouldnât have doubted you there.â, Finney says before smiling sheepishly. Sirius just laughs before petting the Thestral present.
Â
âItâs fine, Finney. Now, off we go. We donât want you arriving late now, do we?â, Sirius smiles walking back to the entrance of the carriage. Sirius opens the little door, moving aside to let Finney enter first. With a small smile, Finney enters the carriage.

Â
âOh, Merlinâs beard, Billy! Will you quit stealing my pudding?â, Robin Arellano says, obviously frustrated with the blond boy beside him. Billy Showalter just smiles at Robin before going ahead and stealing more pudding on the black haired boyâs plate.Â
Â
âWill the two of you shut your trap? I didnât know befriending you idiots would be this annoying.â, Draco Malfoy says, rolling his eyes at his two idiotic friends. Vance Hopper just shakes his head, âJust took the words out of my tongue, Malfoy.â, Vance says.
Â
âQuit acting like weâre as bad as mudbloods.â, Billy, who is now annoyed as well, says at the two. Blaise Zabini, who was watching everything unfold, finally stops the conversation before it gets into another one of those silent treatments.
Â
Pansy Parkinson suddenly sits in between Draco and Blaise, which made everyone look at her. âI got news. Heard it from a source of mine.â, Pansy says quietly before pulling out a scroll from beneath her cloak. Everyone, including Billy who was so busy eating pudding, looked at the scroll in curiosity.
Â
âWell, what is it, Panse?â, Draco asks while trying to snatch the scroll away from Pansyâs hands, in which Pansy quickly dodges. Draco looks at Pansy, irritation evident on his facial expressions. âCome on, Panse. Youâre actually killing me. Just tell me what it is.â, Draco says.
Â
âAlways impatient. Glad Potterâs tolerance is long enough to bear you.â, Pansy says as she rolls her eyes while Draco tries to hide his blush. She finally opens the scroll to reveal a letter written in beautiful cursive. Robin furrowed his eyes as he read the letter. âWait, why does this rumor need to be written down?â, Robin whispered just loud enough for everyone in his circle of friends to hear.
Â
âBecauseâŠâ, Pansy pauses before she looks around, making sure no one was listening to them, before continuing, âWe donât want the Professors to hear that we know.â. Vance laughed a bit before grabbing the piece of paper out of Pansyâs hands, âSo, this isn't a rumor then?â, Vance asks, he was amused at the fact that someone was transferring so late.
Â
âDo you know from what school this transferee came from?â, Blaise asks Pansy as she shakes her head sideways. This made Draco scoff, catching everyoneâs attention. âThis new student better not be a mudblood.â
Â
âPureblood, more like. That student wouldnât be able to transfer here if they werenât already in possession of magic.â, Billy says, as if it was a matter of fact. Draco raises both of his eyebrows in defeat, they all knew that Billy was right.
Â
All of a sudden, the doors of the Great Hall opened to reveal Sirius Black. Whispers started to erupt from each of the houseâs tables, only quieting down when Dumbledore stood up. âJust in time, we havenât put the Sorting Hat away just yet.â, Dumbledore says which made the whispering erupt once more.
Â
âSee? I was right. My source is never wrong.â, Pansy boasts at her friends while they just roll their eyes at her. Their eyes then focus back on Sirius Black as he moves aside to reveal a boy their age walking in, this made everyone immediately shut up.
Â
They all watch as Sirius whispers something to the boy before making his way upfront. The boy stays there, standing still. But, it seems like it isnât because he was shy, itâs because he looked uncertain.
Â
âWhatâs taking him ages? Just bloody move already.â, Vance whispers, making Draco laugh. Robin ignores them though, he was starstrucked. The boy is so beautiful with his lovely curls and untucked uniform.
Â
With a sigh, the transferee finally walks down to the front, taking his time. With every person he walks past, the eyes follow him. It was as if he made one wrong move the whole school would collapse.
Â
âCome forth, take a seat and I will place the Sorting Hat on your head⊠Thatâs when youâll know what your house is.â, Professor Mcgonagall says as the transferee walks up to the stool to take a seat on it.
Â
As everyone waits for the Sorting Hat to announce the mystery studentâs house, Billy, who was stealing pudding once more, is caught by Pansy. âStop it. Honestly, Billy! Will you stop eating my pudding.â, Pansy says before smacking Billy on the head with the scroll sheâs holding.Â
Â
âDo you ever stop shoving pudding down your throat?â, Robin says as the rest of their friend group laugh. âNot my fault they make the best puddings. Not even my great grandmotherâs recipe could beat this!â, Billy says before taking a spoonful of pudding in his mouth.
Â
âAlright then⊠Okay, Gryffindor!â, the Sorting Hat shouts as the Gryffindors cheer for their new member. Robin would be lying if he said he wasnât disappointed. He wanted the new student to be in Slytherin for a larger chance of talking to him.
Â
âGreat, another Gryffindor. Heâs just an addition to the enemies we already have.â, Draco says. This made Blaise sigh. âYou really need to sort out your issues.â, Blaise says, making Pansy laugh.
