My hero

Prompt: fall
No warnings
Major tags: Hogwarts, friendly (loverly?) competitiveness, stubborn idiot Remus

Sirius reaches out to support Remus' elbow. “Just let me –“

“No!” Remus jerks his arm away and keeps limping.

“See?” Sirius complains to James and presses his fists to his face. “He would rather trip and fall than let me touch him.”

“Leave it”, James sighs.

“I can hear you”, Remus growls from in front of them.

“Good! You’re being an idiot!”

“You are an idiot!” Remus hisses and almost loses his balance when he turns his head.

Seeing Remus struggle to get up the stairs, slowly moving one foot in front of the other pains Sirius so much. He, Peter and James are having plenty of time to study the paintings (and the handlebar and the bloody floor) just to keep to his pace. But if this is how he’s going to play it, Sirius had had enough. He can as well get back to the common room and not have to witness it.

He storms past Remus up the stairs.

“Hey!” James grabs his robe and he misses a step, almost falling backwards.

Remus' hand is immediately on his back to catch him.

He spins around to face Remus. “Seriously?”

Remus just purses his lip as if refusing to admit it even happened.

Narrowing his eyes at Remus, Sirius pretends to stagger again. He presses a hand to his forehead. “Oh, help me! I think I’m going to fall on those scary steps. Please hold on to me so I don’t fall.”

Remus glares at him. Sirius glares back. He can feel James and Peter holding their breaths.

“Fine.”

Remus takes Sirius' arm and, to his credit, doesn’t hold back from putting weight on it. Sirius smiles and can’t help but lean his head softly on Remus' shoulder and whisper “My hero.”

The harvest market

Prompt: bonfire
No warnings
Major tags: Pining Sirius

Sirius pushes his hands as deep as he can into the pockets of his leather jacket and follows Remus. Market stands selling vegetables, fresh herbs, and homemade marmalade as well as clothes, and jewellery are crowding on both sides of the path, muddy after a day’s worth of visitors.

Remus stops, eyeing a display of beautiful wrought iron objects. Sirius presses his elbows tightly against the sides of his body and tries not to shiver. He knows he is a hopeless city boy for choosing tight jeans and Converse in this weather. But he already feels like a total walkover for following Remus around everywhere he wants to go, he refuses to change his clothes style as well. And he’d rather freeze to death than let Remus hear him complain.

It's not like Remus asked him to be there. He was kind enough to invite him but made it clear from the beginning that he didn't really think a harvest festival was Sirius' thing. It's not like Remus will ever like Sirius the same way he is gone for Remus. They have held hands a lot today, but Sirius tries his best not to read too much into that, it has only been to not lose each other in the crowd.

It’s worth it, even if they can never have more. However cold, wet and comfortless the day has been, he has gotten to spend time with the most wonderful human he knows. Seen his face light up at all the trinkets that interest him. Seen him smile and make small talk to people he knows. Seen him eat everything imaginable of a cob, vainly trying to lick the butter dripping down his chin.

When the sun sets and Sirius thinks they are finally going home, Remus instead takes him to the big bonfire that is about to be lit. They stand shoulder to shoulder in the crowd. Sirius revels in the closeness and the warmth coming from the fire even though they stand a safe distance away.

Remus' hand sneaks around his back and into his back pocket. Sirius stops breathing. He slowly dares to rest his head on Remus' shoulder. Sirius hears the smile in Remus' humming breath and feels his temple press gently at the top of his head.

Suddenly Sirius wishes they never had to go home. That they could stay this close, this impossibly close, forever.

The fateful conversation at Peter's kitchen table

Prompt: Spy
No warnings
Major tags: Angst, the betrayal, Peter Pettigrew

Once again Sirius found himself at Peter's kitchen table. He'd talk to James, but he had his baby and wife. He'd talk to Remus, but… it was complicated. He was either away on a mission or, whenever he wasn’t, acting distant and suspicious. Not that Sirius didn't end up in his bed more nights than not, anyway.

With so much going on and so little being certain, at least Peter always had some good snacks to spare and an ear to lend. This time he even pored them each a glass of fire whiskey.

“So, they’re making you secret keeper?”

Sirius smiled crookedly. “That’s supposed to be a secret. It’s in the name and all.”

Peter shrugged. “Kind of obvious, though. You’re brave.”

Sirius looked down at the amber liquid he was swirling in his glass. “I’d die for them. You know that.”

“Yeah. I would too. But still, putting yourself on the line…”

Weren't they all? But he guessed Peter was right. It did put him in a key position. And if it was so obvious as Peter stated maybe that wasn't so wise?

"How is Remus?" Peter suddenly asked.

Sirius shrugged. "This war is hard on him."

Peter nodded sympathetically.

"Do you think he..."

Sirius ran cold, bracing for the question he didn't want to think about.

"Maybe we should confront him, or test him somehow, before we tell him you are the secret keeper?"

"He already knows." Sirius' voice rasped.

"Oh. I'm not saying..." Peter raised his palms in surrender, "I just. I can see it too, how hard this is on him. Now we're putting another secret on him to protect."

If Remus was the spy Sirius of course wanted him to burn in hell for that. So maybe they should find a way to test his loyalty? The problem was Sirius didn't want things to change. Wanted Remus' arms there for him to crawl into in the darkness. So maybe he was the one with faulting loyalty?

Anyone else he was confident he could handle. But if it was Remus who started asking the wrong kind of questions, would he be able to shut him out the way he was supposed to?

Sirius sighed. "Maybe there is another way."

"Yeah?" Peter eagerly leaned closer.

Notes

Prompt: “Whatever fluff you like”
No warnings
Major tags: Fluff, teenagers, Remus coming out as werewolf

Remus is rearranging his notes. Peter is beating James' arse in wizard chess and Sirius is enchanting different objects to change colour, his shoelaces at the moment.

"Do you want me to take notes for you tomorrow?" Sirius offers.

Remus goes cold. "I... What? Why..."

It's a full moon tonight. He has just started thinking about what symptoms to fake before he leaves for Hospital Wing. He will miss some, if not all, of tomorrow's classes. But Sirius cannot know that, can he?

James and Peter hold up their game and James clears his throat. "Remus, we have been meaning to talk to you about something. It's a full moon tonight and then you're typically away."

"It's just a coincidence!", Remus all but screams but James continues.

"When you come back you look like you've been through hell."

Peter chimes in "And then there was the prank we did with the Prefect badges. You refused to touch them. They're made of silver."

Remus feels his heart race a thousand miles per hour. This is it. They caught him. He got eight months at Hogwarts, but now it's over.

James looks him firmly in the eyes. "Remus, are you a werewolf?"

He closes his eyes and swallows. There is no point denying it, if they know this much. "Yes", he whispers.

He opens his eyes and looks around at three serious faces. No one moves. No one says a word.

Not until Sirius clears his throat and asks again. "So... Do you want me to take notes?"

Remus stares at him in disbelief. Tears prick his eyes and he whispers: "Yes, please."

Sirius smirks "It's just notes. Nothing to cry about."

Remus laughs as the tears paint his cheeks. "I'm just relieved."

"Didn't know you were so worried about Transfigurations." Sirius jokes.

"Not that, you tosser! About you all being so... accepting. Even though I..."

"Even though you worry too much about your Transfigurations notes?" Sirius grins.

"Twat!" Remus laughs and shoves his shoulder. Sirius catches him in a hug. Remus hugs him back, tears still flowing. James and Peter join them in a big comforting group hug.

They come apart and Remus wipes his face. James put a hand on his shoulder. "Just let us know how we can help, okay?"

Beneath the lighthouse

Prompt: Trust
No warnings
Major tags: Dating, established relationship, fluff

By now, Remus had learned not to ask about the cost of the dates Sirius took him. Yet it took him a moment to realise the big boat (and its crew) was only for them. Sirius smiled and excused it by saying that he wanted to show Remus the beautiful archipelago where he was on vacation as a kid. And Remus couldn’t deny that having dinner while cruising over the waves was really nice.

After the food, naturally consisting solely of dishes Remus had never heard of but found he really liked, they climbed up on the upper deck. (Sirius fondly made fun of him for calling it roof). They sat close together and watched the sunset with a soft wind in their hair.

The view was different in the dark. Each little island a row of glimmering light reflected from the houses. A lighthouse twinkling. Gentle waves lapping the rocky shoreline.

“It really is beautiful,” Remus said. "We used to walk to the lighthouse back in Whales as well."

“Do you want to get ashore and explore a bit?”

“Can we do that?”

Sirius raised his eyebrows and gave him a look that clearly said he still had a thing or two to learn about having money, then went to talk to the skipper.

They were sat ashore on the rocky island, with a promise to stay as long as they wanted, and slowly walked along the cliffs.

"Have you ever laid beneath a lighthouse?" Remus asked.

"No? Is that some superstition? 'You should make love beneath the light of a lighthouse to make it last forever' or something?"

"I'm not saying... You're impossible!" Remus blushed and shoved Sirius lightly. “Just laying on the ground and watching the light.”

Sirius looked sceptical.

"Just trust me." Remus took Sirius' hand and pulled him towards the lighthouse.

As they came closer the beams made an umbrella of light around them, seemingly shielding them from the world outside.

“Wow” Sirius spun around with wide eyes.

They found an even spot and Sirius obediently laid down beside Remus with his head pointing to the lighthouse. The light beams spun steadily over their heads, and above them, a starry sky spread out.

“Now focus on the beams close to the lighthouse but not the lighthouse itself”, Remus prompted.

Sirius gasped and stuck his hands out to brace himself on the solid ground on either side. The light beams appeared to become solid, the stars appeared to start spinning instead, and everything else in the universe with them.

Remus took his hand and chuckled. It turned out there still were some things he could show Sirius as well.

In the astronomy tower

Prompt: Witch
No warnings
Major tags: Angst, teenagers, pining, jealous Sirius

"Look, Lily, you are a clever witch. You are brilliant in many ways. But this is something you don't understand."

Instead of looking deterred, Lily crossed her arms and joined Sirius on the floor of the astronomy tower.

"Then explain it to me."

Sirius looked determinedly away from her.

"Remus is a decent guy…" Lily started.

"He is not a decent guy", Sirius growled, "he is phenomenal. He is honest and kind and brave."

Lily gave him a half-amused, half-frustrated smile. "Yet here we are", she sighed, and when that got no response: "Remus on a date he's not enjoying. You sulking in the astronomy tower."

"Why can't I come to the astronomy tower? You are also in the astronomy tower?!"

"You know, you don't really give him a chance, with the rate you are dating people."

"That was girls!"

"Remus is more courageous than you, is that what's bothering you?"

"I don't know what you're talking about", Sirius said between gritted teeth.

"So on the one hand we have someone who is phenomenal. On the other hand, we have a bunch of people whose best quality is that they are girls?"

"Don't…" Sirius threatened.

"I'm not saying you should snog him in front of the whole school, you can -"

"Lily!" Sirius gasped in a scandalised voice, "Don't even suggest…"

"No?" Lily stood up and brushed off. "Okay. I guess the heir to the House of Black can't tolerate being seen as anything other than straight. But the Sirius I know is brawer."

She left him speechless staring at the floor.

Pass me the salt

Prompt: Pumpkin
No warnings
Major tags: Secret relationship, Hogwarts

Remus was secretly having Sirius' pinkie wrapped around his own under the breakfast table and last night fresh in his memory. That's probably why he didn't think before he spoke.

"Can you pass me the salt, Pumpkin?"

Sirius' eyes snapped to him and his heart sank. What had he said that for? Sirius had always scoffed at pet names. At the most tolerated the occasional "King" or "Tiger" on the quidditch field. But this was completely wrong, and Remus knew it.

"Sorry, I -"

"No", Sirius interrupted him in a voice that was almost a whisper, "say that again."

"Pumpkin?"

Sirius eyes were fixed on him. Was that a pink flush to his cheeks?

"Sweetheart?" Remus tried, "Buttercup? Darling?"

Sirius' lips parted. Remus would have kissed him if they hadn't been in the middle of the great hall. Now he had to settle for smiling and squeezing Sirius' hand tight under the table.

James seemed to be busy bothering Evans but Peter looked at them with two raised eyebrows. Remus kicked him under the table.

"What? You want to be called darling, too?"

There is nothing as romantic as revenge

Prompt: Candle
No warnings
Tags: Teenagers, established relationship, background Jily

They had got a promise to have the dorm to themselves for a few hours and set it up with soft music and dimmed light. Remus was massaging Sirius' back when an unmistakable and strong stench of fart filled the room.

Sirius snorted. "Ew!"

Remus frowned. “Did you…?”

“Are you blaming me?!” Sirius gasped with a hand to his heart.

Remus pinched his nose and looked around.

“It’s the candle!”

He put out the scented candle at fault and used a spell to clear the air.

Sirius laughed. “Let me see. You got that from James?”

“From Lily.”

Sirius doubled over with laughter. “Damn the two of them, they’re too smart for us! It’s the candle I gave James for his date with her.”

“It wasn’t even used, the wick was unburnt. How did they know?”

Sirius shook his head and motioned for Remus to sit in front of him.

“Your turn.”

“Honestly, this kind of ruined the moment. How about we plan revenge first and come back to this later?”

“There is nothing as romantic as revenge.” Sirius smiled and wiggled his eyebrows.

Playing poker

Prompt: Dealers choice
No warnings
Major tags: First kiss, teenagers, Hoqwarts

A good deal of the dorm’s floor was covered in candy wrappers. At James’ generous suggestion, the four boys had combined their Halloween candy into a giant communal pile in the middle of the room and were now sitting, or in Peter’s case, lying around it.

It was a slow evening. Just what they needed after the festivities. Yet, the air was filled with quiet tension, or was Sirius the only one who felt that?

He and Remus sat next to each other, almost brushing elbows. Sirius leaned back, popped another piece of candy into his mouth and tried to look casual waiting for whoever would suggest the next game. James, with a grin Sirius knew meant mischief, leant forward with the deck of muggle cards in his hand.

“Dealer’s choice, right?” James said, raising an eyebrow. "Let’s play strip poker.”

Sirius was not the only one to chuckle uncomfortably, but he didn’t want to be the first one to say no, and apparently, neither did anyone else.

Sirius felt his face flush and his mind buzz as he glanced at Remus, who was looking at the floor, lips pressing together in a tense line. As James started to deal, Sirius with some effort tore his gaze away from Remus.

The cards felt heavy in Sirius’ hands. He considered deliberately losing all his clothes as fast as he could, just to get it over with. Not that he didn’t want to see Remus. Quite the contrary, he had caught himself staring too long or thinking the wrong kind of thoughts a few times too many to believe this was a good idea.

Deliberate or not, Sirius lost the first round and discarded his socks. Peter lost his jumper. James lost and opted for his socks as well. Sirius lost another round and tugged off his shirt. He felt a surge of something between thrill and fear with every glance Remus shot his way.

Finally, Remus lost a round and discarded his jumper. Then another, and another. He shot a quick glance towards Sirius who couldn’t help exhaling sharply as he slowly pulled his shirt over his head. Sirius felt his eyes being pulled like magnets towards his body. All sharp angles and lean muscle under scar-crossed skin.

As Peter dealt the next round Sirius held his breath willing his body to stop reacting. To stop betraying everything about how he secretly felt. He popped another candy in his mouth and tried to concentrate on the sweet taste rather than the temptation to his right.

“You in?” James prompted.

“Eh… Yeah. One up.” Sirius mumbled and looked at his cards without seeing them.

His eyes flicked to his right. Remus met his gaze and held it, with a beautiful blush on his cheeks. Sirius felt a rush of something warm, something resembling hope.

He inched closer, their bare shoulders now touching. Remus didn’t back away. Not until he leaned forward to show his hand.

When he sat back again his thigh was flush against Sirius’, feeling incredibly warm through the fabric. Sirius exhaled softly and Remus answered with a sigh so soft Sirius knew he was the only one to hear it. Remus lightly trailed his nimble fingers down Sirius' bare back, sending shivers through his body. The warmth settled in Sirius' chest and expanded into courage.

He turned towards Remus again, reverently cupped his face in his hands and leaned closer. Remus' lips met his halfway, sweet as candy and warm as a welcoming blanket.

For a moment the world was Remus. His legs wound themselves around Sirius. His hands in Sirius’ hair and pulled him impossibly closer. The kiss was all that existed.

Until James chuckled and threw his card on the floor. “Guess we need to find another game. Unless you want to continue playing just the two of us, Peter?”

Lord Black's armchair

Prompt: Traitor
Warnings: NSFW
Major tags: Smut, teenagers, established relationship, Grimmauld place

Sirius pulled Remus into the sitting room. They were alone at Grimmauld place. Sirius’ parents were at whatever fancy dinner party, Regulus was at some kind of club reserved for prominent young wizards, and Kreacher had been sent on an unnecessary errand.

"Filthy half-blood," Sirius whispered in his ear. With the lust in his voice and the way his fingers lightly trailed his neck, it was no insult.

"Blood traitor," he whispered back and kissed Sirius' cheek, jaw, and neck.

Sirius stumbled backwards into his father's armchair and pulled Remus on top of him.

"Unholy creature."

"Disgrace to your name."

This was admittedly not Remus' favourite game. Mostly due to a healthy amount of fear for Sirius' family. But it did things to Sirius that Remus deeply enjoyed.

And Remus would do anything that Sirius wished for. Even in Lord Black's armchair.
