Train of Thought
The train shook with a rumble announcing it’s departure from the station. Remus looked around the cabin he sat in with James, Sirius, and Peter. James was sitting next to him, Remus against the window. Sirius directly across from him and Peter next to him. Remus thought back to earlier his brain forming many questions: What the hell was James talking about earlier with ravens and griffins? He honestly was so clueless. Why was Remus gifted a long stick alongside his supplies for school that represented a wand? Which positively couldn’t be because yes he may be so called magical but there is simply no way that bloody wands exist. He was sure of that till Sirius reached into his pocket and pulled out a long grey stick. A wand. Okay. So maybe wands do exist.
Remus clears his throat causing all three heads to turn and look at him. He feels his cheeks get hot, but brushes the feeling away.
“Um, so what are you-” Remus thinks about his words because he simply can’t afford to lose the only people who seem wanting to be friends with him. He thinks back to what James spoke about. Houses? Yes! Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. “What houses do you think you guys are gonna be in?” He asks carefully.
James face strikes with happiness-he must have said the right thing.
“Oh! I hope I get in Gryffindor like I was saying earlier!” James says excitedly.
Sirius looks questionably at Remus. He can’t quite place what the look is for. Sirius reaches into a small bag next to him and pulls out a piece of paper as Peter speaks to James excitedly with him. Remus watches as Sirius writes on the paper. He folds the paper when he finishes writing and hands it to Remus. Remus opens it and he sucks in a breath. He had not quite thought this part out. Being that he can’t read. Well I mean I can read. It’s just that the letters get all jumbled up but I mean Illiona says I'm just dimwitted. Remus looks up at Sirius to see him looking at him raising his eyebrows. He needs to figure out what the note says. He focuses hard on the words hastily written down. “I” It says that obviously. Theres a K it looks like, “Know”. This is fucking torture he has no idea what the bloody paper says besides that. He just looks back at Sirius and with pleading eyes, he knows that he won’t understand this gesture.
Sirius rolls his eyes and mouths “scoot over”. Remus scoots away from the window with blurry trees in it. Sirius slides over into the seat with him.
“I know you don’t know what the houses are, it’s obvious.” Sirius says blatantly.
Remus looks up at him with surprise.
“Save me the crap. You look like you came from a shelter, no offence, and I could practically see the gears turning in your head as you asked what houses everyone wanted to be in.” Sirius says shaking his head lazily.
“Okay, yeah. I was- I just want to know more about everything.” Remus says quietly, looking back at the other two boys carefully.
Sirius nodded his head. “What do you wanna know?” he asked quietly giving him a small look of… Remus didn’t quite know. It wasn’t pity like usually when people looked at him. It was more like he was admiring him.
Doubt that! Remus thought.
“I was wondering about all the houses and… well the wands?” Remus said carefully.
Sirius let out a breath. The next 30 minutes was just Sirius explaining things to Remus. Remus tried to listen. He did mostly, but the beautiful face in front of him made that quite difficult. He did get some information that he didn’t know before. There are four houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff. Sirius says he’s gonna be in Slytherin-his whole family has been in it. Sirius said that Remus was probably gonna be in either Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. He then told Remus about the wands. How the small branches are all different and have different pieces that make them perfect for each person. How they will learn at Hogwarts different charm and defensive spells. How they will be able to cast things and will learn potions. Which Sirius really had to explain to Remus.
Remus began to think that he and Sirius were gonna be pretty good friends. He really hoped so.
