๐™š chap. 12 - christmas break pt. 4

Tumbling into your living room at 11:06 pm with Sirius Black limp beside you was not one of your plans for the year of 1975. The boys were still up, as expected at the sound of commotion, the hurried downstairs into the sitting room with their wands raised. "[Y/N]?" James asked. "What's that you've got there, and better question, why are you in a dress?"
"Oh, James, the most horrible thing happened, come quick! Someone get mum!" You responded hurriedly. Remus ran back upstairs.

James and Peter hurried over to where you were hunched over Sirius' limp body. "It's Sirius!" You hollered as you saw Remus and Euphemia coming down the stairs. "His cousin cursed him, I think she crucio-d him!" James quickened his pace, and kneeled down beside the two of you. Your mother was quick behind him.

"Oh, Padfoot." James cried. He was actually crying, and the stupidest thing happened. You started crying, too. Maybe it was the shock, or the adrenaline, you didn't know. Your mother demanded everyone back up, and you all complied. James wrapped his arm around your shoulder, and you returned the action.

Remus and Peter just stood there in shock. "It all happened so fast!" You wailed. "I was at their family ball, don't ask any questions, please. Anyways, I was sitting at a table talking with my friends, and the boys walked off, and they all came back so pale! Regulus dragged me into a room, and as we arrived, Bellatrix was storming out, and there was Sirius on the ground. Oh, Sirius. Regulus ushered us into the floo, and then we were here!"

James, who had always been naturally good at comforting people, didn't ask, he just wrapped his other arm around you, and the pair of you stood there, and just cried. It felt like hours before you unwrapped from his embrace, and went up to your room, dried tears and mascara streaming down your face. You just shed your heels and dress before climbing into your bed, falling asleep immediately.

When you got up the next morning, your throat was dry, your hair frizzy, and eyes puffy. You pulled on a pair of sweats and a jumper. You made your way downstairs, and filled yourself a glass of water. Your body was grateful for the much needed hydration. After a few more times of doing that, you sat at the table. The house was still the only sound that was heard was the clock ticking. It didn't feel like Christmas at all. Usually, James would wake you up at dawn, and drag you downstairs to open presents.

It felt wrong for it to be Christmas. Christmas was always happy, but how could anyone feel that way when Sirius was in a guest bedroom, probably still in pain. Sirus, oh Sirius. He didn't deserve that at all. You filled another glass of water, and made your way to the guest bedroom that he was in. You lightly knocked on the door before entering. He was lying on the bed, awake, but just staring blankly at the ceiling.

He finally tore his gaze away from the ivory cover from the elements, and looked to you. He smiled slightly, and you brought the water over to him. He accepted it with a shaky hand, and gulped it down. You sat on the edge of the bed, and looked down at him. He seemed so weak, so vulnerable. You soothingly carded your fingers through his longs stands of hair.

"Thank you," He finally croaked out. "Not just for the water, but for bringing me here."
"Oh, Sirius." You responded. "You didn't deserved to be cursed." You hesitantly leaned down to hug him, and he reciprocated. "You're going to get better, I promise."
"[Y/N]?"
"Mhm?"
"Can I ask why you were at my house last night? I mean, it's mainly blood-purists that attend."
"Well, Sirius.. I suppose I should tell you something." You cautiously pulled back, careful to not press any weight onto him. "I've kind of been hanging out with your brother for a while. It's not like we're close or anything, but.. yeah."
"You like him." He stated as if it were fact, not a conclusion he'd come to.
"What? No. I mean, I like hanging out with him, but it's not like that." You responded. He gave you a skeptical look.
"It's okay if you do. I'd rather it be you than someone else."
"Sirius-"
"You just don't know it yet." He gave you what Remus would call a 'Sirius Black grin'. You rolled your eyes good-naturedly in response.
"I'll just let you live with your delusions." You concluded.

The two of you sat like that for a moment. Remus came to knock on the opened door. "He's all yours." You jested. Before leaving, you grabbed the empty glass. "I'll bring you more soon." You refocused your attention to Remus as you walked out. "Be careful with him." And that was that.

The day went slowly after that. You decided you should probably write to Regulus and explain what happened after you and Sirius left the Black Manor. That, once again brought you to your desk. You dipped your quill into the vial of ink, and began to write.

Dear Regulus,

Regulus, I do not know if you will receive this letter, but still, I feel the need to write it. Sirius and I got to my house safely. He's doing better, my mother has put him to bedrest for a few days. I hope your Christmas is going better than mine, though I don't imagine it is with Sirius disappearing with me last night. If your parents care, I hope you've provided a good excuse for him. It doesn't feel like Christmas here at all.

I miss studying together. I cannot wait until we get back to Hogwarts, maybe then life will feel real again. I feel like I'm in a dream, waiting to wake up. Is that an odd thing to put in a letter? I have no idea. Write back to me as soon as you get the chance.

With love, [Y/N] Euphemia Potter
