This Wish(reprise)
Yuugi struggled to the platform's edge after the latest blow from Dartz with his magic. After reaching the edge, he looked out over his friends, family, and the rest of Domino’s population in sorrow. His heart aching from witnessing the fate of his Mou Hitori no Boku at the madman's hands, his mother essentially lifeless after Dartz had claimed his soul and magic.
‘We… are… stars…’ Yuugi muttered as he closed his eyes while recalling the lesson Atemu helped him learn upon their first meeting.
‘So I look out at the stars just like me,’ Yuugi sang, just before Dartz shot another blast of magic at him with a sneer.
‘And I'm begging you to see this as a sign’, Yuugi nearly sobbed to the crowd below, followed by another blast from Dartz.
‘Cause I know that if you choose to stand beside me,’ Yuugi sang, only for Dartz to lift him seconds later with a tendril of magic, further injuring the teen. Dartz grinned at the pain the teen experienced at his command, only for a new voice to pick up the melody.
"We'll be greater than all his magic combined." If Yuugi had the strength to look, he would see his best friend Jou adding his wish.
‘So I make this wish,’ You sang, only to barely dodge a blast from Dartz with the aid of Pegasus as he attempted to demand their silence. Which promptly backfired as Pegasus joined the teen on the following line.
‘So I make this wish,’ they sang, then the rest of Yuugi’s friends joined.
‘So I make this wish,’ began Ryou, Duke, and Seto, with the other three chiming in on the following line.
‘So I make this wish,’ sang Malik, Tristan, and Odeon.
‘To have something more for us than this’, Pegasus and the gaggle of teens sang together as they stood tall despite the enchanted restraints holding them in place. This causes Dartz to panic internally as he slams his staff-like focus into the platform, and his magic tendrils drag the entire population of Domino to their knees.
‘We’ve had generations of expectations.
I wondered why and when. Yuugi’s mother and grandfather sang out this time, and they were both worried about their youngest family member. With the following line, the rest of Domino steadily join the chorus, adding their voices to the melody.
‘We’re past dipping our toes in
We know it’s do or die, it’s sink or swim
‘We were all confusing your promises for protection
But we know what we’ve got to do
Hope unchanging, with our wish held high
The way you’ve always taught us to’
Dartz could only look on with a sneer as their voices grew louder the more they sang. Yuugi struggled to open their eyes and view the sight created by his attempt to do what was right for all of Domino, regardless of the power Dartz held from all the wishes he’d effectively stolen. Just then, he slammed his staff down with his magic to snuff the people's song of freedom with a thick shroud of smoke; only seconds later, their joint wish for freedom from his grasp dispelled the attempt with little fanfare.
‘So I look out at the stars just like me
And throw caution to every warning sign’
As the people sang this line, Yuugi finally regained the strength to lift themselves from the roof, rejoining the melody that had started with him and adding his voice to the choir, crying out for freedom. A grin formed on his lips as he turned to face Dartz, who was flailing to retrieve the wishes drawn from within his body.
As this happened, the power darts initially stolen from the star in human form were returned to their rightful owners, allowing Yami to be revived from the death-like state darts seemingly had put him into when stealing Yami’s power.
‘What we do at this moment is defining
And we can take it on if we ally’
As the people continued to wish with all their heart and might, all the while singing with all their spirit, all of Dartz’s actions finally came back to bite him in the ass. As the people sang for their freedom and the return of the wishes he once stole from them under the pretense of eventually granting them, the star-turned-human flew through the air, leading the wishes to fly around as well. At the same time, Dartz’s former magic reached out from his staff, latching onto the false king and dragging him within the crystal atop the staff.
‘So, I make this wish.
To have something more for us than this
So, I make this wish
To have something more for us than this’
It was as this final verse left the mouths of the people that Dartz was sealed within the crystal of his former staff with a burst of his sickly magic. In contrast, the wishes Domino’s people once entrusted to him under his false promise of granting them at some point floated down from the sky and back into the care of the people who once made these very exact wishes. Yuugi watched on at the spectacle in a mix of happiness and relief before jumping onto his starry companion's arm in sheer exhilaration at seeing him alive and well once more.
