Unfortunate beginnings
He would do it. He could be a killer. It was just one person, to save many others, to stop another war, to make up for His mistake.
It was a dark evening in Yokohama and most streets were empty, after all most people weren’t foolish enough to travel during the Port Mafias reign. It wasn’t like they lost control of control of the city by day, but they were far more likely to be spotted in the cover of night.
He unfortunately did not know these things, as He was an intruder in their territory, but He was foolish and unstable enough to watch them full well knowing the danger He was in.
The kid would occasionally get distracted and vaguely stare into His direction, although his eye could not spot Him in the shadows The teenagers reddish glance seemed cold and as if he was just waiting for a reason to rid someone of their life.
He had no doubts anymore. This was the demon student.
The one who would start another war. And there was no way Sirius would let him. Not after everything he’d lost.

“There’s no way I’m going to spend hours staring into a crystal ball.” Dazai huffed.
“We should gather as much info about different magic branches. You are our only wizard after all.”
Dazai hated that the pesky doctor reflected his thoughts perfectly. Although taking divination would just prove to be Useless anyway.
He’d most likely be unable to use anything anyway, seeing as it involved a lot of magical objects.
“I’ll be useless in that class.” He argued
“Objects, remember?”
He barely stifled a sigh.
He was rather glad that he didn’t have to argue over going to Hogwarts this year, but he had spend about an hour in Mori’s dumb office already.
It looked exactly the same as it had back when Dazai’s father had been boss.
The only difference were Elise’s objectively bad drawings on the walls and floor.
Always depicting another person dying, but unfortunately never depicting Dazai, as far as he’d seen.
He chose to interpret his boss’s lack of arguments as agreement to his reasons against divination.
“I would choose care for magical creatures, but they hate me. Unless we’re talking bout Egg and she doesn’t count.”
Mori raised an eyebrow.
“She’s weird! That’s a perfectly good reason to exclude her from my conclusions.”
The dragon was kept in the basement.
Time really seemed to fly when it came to dragon development. Egg had already grown into the size of a big pony.
He was very glad that Hogwarts tolerated her existence, she would have been a nuisance to hide.
The school said they’d even go as far as provide food for her near Hagrid’s hut.
(Dazai would bet he offered it.)
The teenager sometimes wondered if he could ride her. Theoretically as long as his skin didn’t touch her she’d be fine, but would Egg allow that? Flying far into the sky and just plummeting sounded really nice though (especially when being forced to talk to his boss).
„So I’ll definitely take Ancient runes and Arithmancy.“ Dazai spoke again, „It’s just memorizing and magic math. I’m good at math and with my memory runes will be a joke.“
“Yes I’d say so” the doctor nodded. “You should ask your muggleborn friend whether you need to take a class to write the exams or not.”
“Sure boss.” by now the title rolled off of Dazai’s tongue easily.
“We might give her massive phone bill though it’s a long way to England” Dazai said frowning a little.
“Give her the money then." Mori shrugged.
The brunette only nodded and stood up from the chair he’d dragged infront of his boss’s desk and made his way back to the door.

As per usual Dazai would be back earlier than needed, a week to be exact, to buy his books and school supplies.
He’d already packed everything and the flight was today.
After such a long time without his friends Dazai was really looking forward to not having mafia missions.
He hadn’t exchanged any letters with the Hounds, but he had called Hermione and forced Featherbrain to send over an envelope of money, in case the call got expensive.
Unfortunately leaving for Hogwarts also entailed saying goodbye to Mori which may sound alright, but it was really awkward. (Probably only for Dazai)
Dazai tried not to flinch when Mori raised a hand. He mostly succeeded and unhappily let his boss pet his head for a short moment.
Dazai had featherbrain’s cage and a trunk with him.
(Egg would have to wait at Draco’s place for a bit.)
Soon enough he arrived and made his way to find the wizarding world.
——————
It was already due to Mori’s lack of planning that Dazai found himself roaming random streets in the dark.
The night wrapped everything around it in a tight blanket, seemingly surpassing everything into darkness.
He started just walking the streets about half an hour ago. Dazai had no idea where he was going. Usually he took the night bus to get anywhere in the wizarding world.
He should probably call Hermione. No scratch that. He’d be fine alone.
Dazai was not a person who got scared easily. In Yokohama people would be afraid to meet the demon prodigy. They’d say the ones surviving the encounter were the unlucky ones, as they could never walk in peace again, not looking over their shoulder, afraid to see that cold gaze.
The mafia was usually around at night (it was their time after all), but it didn’t matter when you met that demon of deceit, you’d not even feel safe enough to be out alone during the daytime.
For the sun could not protect you from your fate.
So no Dazai wasn’t afraid. People feared him. He was better than that, he needed to be.
Also it wasn’t even that bad.
By now it was plain to see that this strange teenager was lost, but Dazai kept his head up and never stopped walking.
Incase someone would even try harming him, he still had a gun loosely in his waistband.
Dazai would prefer not to use it seeing as the law enforcement would not appreciate it.
The Teenager was strolling through dark streets and even darker alleys.
There was a slight hum in the air, almost unnoticeable and most certainly nonexistent to others. He was not like the others though, Dazai knew that buzzing by heart.
The call of home, the call of magic.
The closer it got, the more no longer human flared up protectively. The blue cold clinging to his every cell, bracing for an attack.
Looking around there wasn’t much that could hide a magical aura. The street he had ended up on was empty. There was a playground to one side, while the other one had bushes and a lamppost.
The bush to his right started rustling in the wind. It didn’t take long before Dazai noticed that it moved way too irregularly to be caused by the nightly breeze.
The tiny responsible part of Dazai’s brain knew that he shouldn’t even have to debate the choices, but that part shrank as soon as Dazai left Japan.
The teenager let out a sigh before turning to face the undergrowth.
“I’m gonna get stabbed.” Dazai muttered.
His world froze as the bush released a growl and a golden ish glint gleamed behind the twigs and leaves.
Barking and clawing. Biting and clawing. The hounds teeth clapping hungrily. The feeling of flesh being ripped from his body.
Being trapped. Biting and clawing. Biting and clawing. Snarling filled the silence and Mori smiled, that ugly sadistic look in his eyes.
There was a flash of light and Dazai finally snapped out of the memories. He immediately checked the spot the energy had come from.
A black shaggy dog was growling, golden eyes glowing in the darkness of its hiding place.
The light got closer and Dazai heard loud brakes on the road.
Before he could get another look at the mutt a bus stopped right infront of him.
The knight bus. Its driver just stared at Dazai as he got on and stuttered out: “ umm.. where did you need to uh go?” Clearly the rumors had still not left off.
Dazai wouldn’t be surprised if they were saying that Dazai threatened Lockhart into silence.
“The leaky cauldron.” Tom should be fine with him visiting after all.
The drive was as bumpy as ever and Featherbrain slit across the floor giving an angry hoot from her cage.
The teenager quickly grabbed his stuff and got out of the bus as soon as it stopped. All the magic took some getting used to again, but Dazai knew it wasn’t half as bad as Hogwarts.
Of course he hadn’t been slacking off he was to afraid his tolerance would lower again.
His trace was covered by the Japanese government and while they loved to act as though everything was normal they had no say in what happened in Yokohama. Luckily for him they’d never admit they can’t even control a city so his secret was safe.
Dazai hurried up to the counter immediately to greet Tom, the innkeeper of the leaky cauldron.
“Oh hey kid. Same room as last time?” He asked with a gentle smile.
“Yup!” Dazai happily popped the “p”.
The Hogwarts Student slid some coins over and waited for his key.
“Here number 4 again and I’ll bring you food like last time.” Dazai would have loved to argue, but knew it wouldn’t actually do anything, so he just hummed and turned away.
Dazai spotted multible daily Prophet articles and snatched the top one quickly.
By now he knew the way to the room well and it barely took any time to get there.
He put his trunk down and quickly opened Featherbrain’s cage. The owl hopped out and immediately started preening her wing.
Dazai finally had time to read the article. The top read: “is Sirius Black looking to join the demon student?!”
The article was clearly nonsense, but should someone actually want to join Dazai, because he WaS tHE NeW dARk lOrD.
Not like he wanted to do that anyway it would take a ton of time and wouldn’t even be all that benefiting for him.
Whoever would run to him after escaping Voldemort would be disappointed, you know muggleborn and all.
This was clearly ridiculous and while Tom had seemed normal at first sight his smile had been a night strained, like he was worried.
These were probably only stupid rumors, but Dazai couldn’t help thinking back to the magic dog attack.
What had happened while he was gone?
