Harry walked through the streets of London still in shock, unable to believe what he had just done.
Hours before he had been at work, on the Aurors floor in the ministry. As always, he had a discussion with the Head Auror Robards. The two had never really gotten along, there was always something they clashed over that led to big arguments. In the end, Harry had always been the one to give in, afraid of being fired, but this time It had been different.
Even though three years had already passed since the war, most of the missions were still focused on the pursuit of Death Eaters. Harry had been in one of that misions when one of his teammates had senselessly attacked one of the suspects, leaving him at St. Mungo’s. The man had end up being innocent, but the Auror had not even received a suspension.
Harry was furious, this hadn't been the worst thing he had seen but it had still been the thing that had set him off. The war might be over, but the ministry was as corrupted as ever. Even when his best friend Ron had tried to get Harry calm down, everything went too far and he was fired, quickly accepting it.
He was sure that when the news hit the papers, everyone Who thought Harry Potter was untouchable as the savior of the magical world would be speechless. That almost made him laugh, almost.
He had been so furious that it had not even occurred to him to apparate on his street, but had gone out walking. On the way, the anger gradually gave way to a calmness that made him think about what he had just done. He had just lost his job.
Just as he began to panic, he arrived in front of number 12 Grimmauld Place and went inside. The place had been given to him by Sirius and after numerous restorations and getting rid of that horrible portrait, it looked like a different place.
As soon as he entered, Ginny, who was now on a week's break after a long Quidditch league, rushed out to greet him. Teddy was in her arms, asleep.
“Harry!” she exclaims, approaching him, “What are you doing here? Weren't you at work?”
He also comes closer, kissing her.
“I think I had been fired,” he says, still confused. "Or I've gotten myself fired, I'm not sure yet…”
She sighs, understanding. “What was it this time? That idiot Roberts?”
He sighs and nods, leaning in to hug her, she hugs him back, Teddy between them writhes in his sleep and they both laugh, the tension easing a little.
“And now what?” he asks. “I don't think I'll be able to get another job in the ministry…”
“Now we keep going, as always, at our own pace” She says, giving him a quick kiss. “Getting better little by little, ministry is not all there is out there.”
And there, standing at the entrance to Grimmauld Place, with his girlfriend's arm around his neck and his godson between them, Harry is sure she is right. There's more to the world than the British Ministry, the Aurors and having to save everyone. Harry is only 20 and he has time, much more than he ever thought he would have. Everything will be better.
