Memories

Ever since Harry was chosen as the fourth champion, Ron was pissed off. To the point, that they wouldn’t even sit next to each other and wouldn’t speak. You thought it was childish. You guess that you understood Ron, but he didn’t have to be so dramatic about it. It completely severed the group, so now, Ron was only speaking with Hermione because you once defended Harry, Hermione was speaking to you and Ron, because Harry completely unnecessarily lashed out on her, and you were speaking to Hermione and Harry. You tried to apologize to Ron, even though you weren’t at fault, but he was still mad. So you decided to wait, to let him cool off. Because you missed Ron so much, he was like a brother to you. His whole family was like a family to you too. Even your parents didn’t have problems with you being friends with him, but that is only because of his pureblood status.

But Harry didn’t speak to practically anyone now. Only to you, and that happened only sometimes, and Neville. And people started wearing these pins to their robes that said Potter stinks, Cedric is our champion and so on. Even some people from Durmstrang and Beuxbatons. It was getting annoying at this point. And because of these people, you tried to be there for Harry, because you understood that it must be hard for him right now.

You were making your way through the hord of students when this one Durmstrang boy winked at you. You’ve seen him around you more and more, so you just gave him a polite smile. He smirked and disappeared once again in the crowd. When you think about it, he was kinda cute. Like a lot. You’ve spent the rest of the way smiling.

You sat down at your table and put out your parchments and inks, being ready to make notes at your class of DADA. Moody as your teacher has already made quite an impression. He was a bit crazy, which was completely off from him. He was the most collected person you know. So you had no idea what was up with him. The room filled up with people and you smilled at Hermione when she sat down next to you.

„Hi.“

„Hi!“

Before you could continue and tell Hermione about the cute guy, or the note that you got, Moody slammed the door behind him, and went straight to the old blackboard.

THE UNFORGIVABLE CURSES

He scribbled with squeaking noises from the chalk. Even his fucking handwriting was slightly different. Now you were frustrated with this whole Moody-not-Moody situation. But you don’t think that these were sufficient evidence, that this was someone else. You’ve had enough.

„The unforgivable curses. The worst shit you can come face to face with. Can someone tell me which ones are they?“ he asked the class. Of course Hermione was the first to raise her hand. But reluctantly. You could tell that the whole mood shifted, now that you were talking about these spells.

„Imperio, Crucio, and… Avada Kevadra.“ She almost whispered the last one. And nobody judged her.

„Exactly, Miss Granger. So now, a bit of exhibition.“ He grabbed a jar with a huge spider and unscrewed it. Some laughed and some watched with horrified expression as the spider crawled out. But before anyone could say anything else, Moody cast a spell. And everyone was in pure disbelief and shock.

„IMPERIO!“ a faint light came out of his wand, and immediately the spider was under Moody‘s control. Nobody dared to speak, but when Moody flickered his wand, and the spider came onto Draco’s face. Everybody started laughing, but Draco was furious and screamed in a high-pitched voice, to which even more people started laughing. Your stomach was tight as a knot, talking about these spells, but you giggled at Draco's reaction too.

„This was Imperio, my students. A very powerful spell, with which you can control anyone, and make them your servant. But don’t go around casting this on your friend to make them let you copy their homework. It’s an unforgivable curse, and that's basically a one-way ticket to Azkaban. And you don’t want that, right?“ he left the poor spider alone, at least you thought so. You didn’t think that he would show Crucio on him, but you were so wrong.

„CRUCIO!“ he stormed. You thought that you would puke, like right now in your seat. The spider was wailing, you didn’t even know that spiders could make sounds like that. But it was horrible. Everyone was holding their breath, but you couldn’t even do that, because you couldn’t breathe. All the memories were flooding out, when you were on the cold floor, unable to move, thinking that you were going to die. And one, when you were more hurt because of the person who did it, instead of the spell. You needed to get out of this classroom. You didn’t even see where you were going, you were just going by pure memory, rushing away.

You didn’t even know how long you were going, or where you are right now. Your vision was so darkened you couldn’t even tell. You plopped down on the floor, your head between your knees. Even though the cold from the ground was cooling you, you were still lost in your mind.

You still remember the first time your parents used it on you. You were five and just broke a vase with flowers in it. You accidentally swept it off the table when you were in a hurry. You cried and said that you were so so sorry. But your mum had a hard day at work and just snapped. She used crucio on you. You felt as if someone crushed all your bones, healed them, and crushed them again. You were coughing out blood, screaming, and begging her to stop. She stopped and repaired the vase with magic, in under a second, it was just like a new one. Then she scooped you up and gave you a bath and put you to bed. And this whole time it was happening, you were as a body without a soul. You thought that you died and now your mother was holding your dead body. The next morning you woke up and got an expensive set of clothes and sweets, and your mum acted as if nothing happened.

Once a year, or twice, when your parents are in a bad mood, they just snap. And every time it hurts more and more. You ended with stitches to your arms once, because the skin just ripped. And every time after, they buy you the most expensive things and tell you that they love you and that you are their world. You believe them every word, even when you almost lost your life due to that spell. But you know that they love you, and every parent must have used it at one point with their children right? But you’ve never heard someone talk about it. Strange.

But these punishments didn’t hurt as bad as when the person you trusted the most used it on you. Even though he knew that your parents are using crucio on you. He was probably one of those whose parents didn’t punish them. You were just stupid kids, who borrowed his mother’s wand when you were eight.

You jokingly stole one of his many stuffed animals and he was hunting you in the dark hallways of Malfoy Manor. You were running through doors, with you laughing and him screaming. He had no idea what he was doing with the wand, so he was just throwing spells that came to his mind. You just ran past the drawing room, when he said the curse.
„Crucio!“ he said. When the curse hit you, it knocked the breath out of your lungs first, so you fell down, gasping for air, blinding pain running through your body.

For the first few seconds, both of you didn’t understand, what happened. Only when he saw the crimson blood seeping through your shirt, he understand that he did something bad. You don’t remember much after, only that his mother found the two of you on the ground, and immediately tried to help you. Your dad came for you and called a private doctor, that stitched the skin that burst across your back. You despised Draco since then because you told him about the curse, and he knew damn well, what it meant. And he still used it. When you were bedridden for days after that, he didn’t care to write you even a small note. You got a bunch of sweets and gifts from his parents, who even visited you. But nothing from him.

So stupid of you that just a week before, you said to him, that when you are older, you want to marry him. He turned red and just cheekily smiled at you and said that he loves you. You kissed him and then your parents called out for you, that it was time to go home. Now you despised Draco, and couldn’t even stand him. He was a horrible person, even though he was so kind and sweet when he was little. But for some reason, he disliked you too.

It felt like an eternity, even though you couldn’t be sitting there for more than a minute. You were heaving for fresh air, but you still couldn’t calm down, and now you couldn’t even feel your limbs. Your throat was closing up, and you felt like you would pass out any minute.

You heard footsteps, coming towards you, and heard someone calling out your name, but it sounded so, so far away, almost as if you were underwater. When you didn’t react, the footsteps quickened. You were so weak that you couldn't even lift your head up to look who it was. You were sure that it was over for you.
