buying gifts
James ran throughout London frantically, zipping through stores and not buying anything worth giving to Regulus. He was about to tear his hair out. He’d been trying to shop in the freezing cold for hours now, not that it mattered, Regulus was worth it. He’d sold his solid gold statuette to an antique store. He’d bought it from an antique store, so it wasn’t too terrible of a loss, but the parting was… difficult. He’d wanted to pay for Regulus’ gift himself, but he doesn’t have nearly enough money saved for something of value.
He wandered through so many jewelry stores, countless malls, and an insane amount of bookshops. He’d bought almost 20 books on Regulus’ to-be-read list, along with his favorite tea, candies, candles, and some makeup the younger boy was about to run out of. Jame had gotten a basket with tissue paper and many decorations. Sure, it’d be a cute idea for a Burr Basket, something to surprise Regulus with before Christmas, but it’s not a gift.
James stumbles into a jewelry store about 15 miles away, a very expensive looking one at that. He started browsing hopelessly, making note of reasons Regulus wouldn’t wear the jewelry on display.
“He only likes silver,” or “His wrist is too small,” or maybe, “Not enough karats, not his size, something he’d find distasteful,” nothing seemed to be just right. James knew Regulus preferred dark silver. His ring size was a 7.8 precisely. His wrist was 17.5 centimeters, and he preferred designs with snakes, skulls, and roses. He likes emeralds and rubies, and his birthstones are pearls, moonstones, and alexandrite, but prefers alexandrite and pearls most. James had all of this, but found nearly nothing.
Till he stumbled across the most perfect, and beautiful necklace to ever have graced his eyes. It’s a gorgeous pure silver necklace with a dainty yet sturdy chain and a small snake with glittering green eyes. He instantly finds an associate to purchase it, stunned by how much it reflects Regulus to him.
He leaves the store accomplished, his pockets carefully holding the box, wrapped in silver wrapping paper with a golden ribbon bow.
He arrives home with a flourish, setting up his gifts for Regulus, placing the present floating above the gorgeously arranged basket, a beautiful bouquet behind it all. He practically floats around with excitement, making dinner and desserts and organizing them.
When Regulus arrives home, slumping through the door and falling into James’ arms comfortably, James has to physically stop himself from giving everything to Regulus at once.
“Hello, love. Merry Christmas. How was your day?” James asks excitedly.
“Normal. Merry Christmas, though,” Regulus replies with a small smile, taking in James’ spread of gifts and treats. “This looks great. You truly didn’t have to do all of this.”
“Oh, but I did. Anything for you, my love.”
They grab the gifts and move to the living room to swap presents.
As Regulus opens his, his faces shifts into one of tearful pleasure, smiling broadly at the necklace and even more so at the spread of books in the basket. “Oh this is amazing, James. This is… wonderful,” he says softly, falling into his arms appreciatively.
Regulus hands James a small, long box. James opens it to reveal a gorgeous golden watch with a silver clock, the very one he broke when they first started dating. “Regulus… this is… amazing. You’re, so so amazing”
“So are you, Jamie. So are you.”
