Remus knew it was wrong. So very wrong. But there he was sat in the astronomy tower with Regulus fucking Black.
He didn’t mean to. Really. It was just another one of those twisted things the universe does to mock him, like when he got bit or when his mum decided it was all too much and took off leaving him with his lousy dad or, the icing on the cake, when his best friend/secret boyfriend decided to tell their enemy about his biggest secret and nearly making him a murderer
That’s why he doesn’t feel too bad about it because this time yesterday he was sat in the great hall surrounded by his friends while playing footsie under the table with his formerly thought to be perfect boyfriend and now, well the sight must be something laughable but neither boys seems to be capable of that action at the current moment
Regulus is sat staring off into the distance trying his hardest not to look uncomfortable at the presence of the crying boy but failing miserably and Remus, poor broken Remus, had finally realised something he spent his life trying to deny. He is truly unlovable.
“Lupin?”
It was only till now that he realised the younger was trying to get his attention
“Huh?”
“I said shouldn’t you be off running around with your little friends then up here with me”
“There not my friends anymore”
The lack of emotion in Remus’ voice scares Regulus and that’s saying something
“Oh”
Neither boy attempts to talk for the rest of the night and when the clock hit two Regulus decided that he had, had enough for the night but just before he is about to leave he casts the other boy a curious glance then disappears. Remus pays no mind to it and decides it is time for he too, to call it a night
After both boys retired to their dorms, despite it being mid January, the astronomy tower was left with the odd warmth of understanding between two people who know how it is to feel empty yet so full of emotion at the same time
