Remus apparated outside their home, outside the wards. He stumbled to the front door and fumbled with his keys, dropping them three times, before Sirius opened the door from the inside.
Sirius took one look at him and opened his arms, just as Remus instinctively collapsed into them.
Remus had been watching Malfoy Manor all night with Kingsley and while nothing had happened, it was the night after the Full Moon and he seriously shouldn’t have accepted the shift. His entire body ached, but he couldn’t really feel it anymore because of how cold he was. He almost felt drunk.
“Moons, your lips are blue, love,” Sirius said quietly.
“You should probably warm them up then.” Remus giggled deliriously.
“Let’s get you inside.” Sirius half dragged Remus across the threshold and towards the living room. “You’re absolutely freezing! Why didn't you cast a warming charm?”
“I did. It’s just so f-fucking cold…” Remus’ eyes were drooping as Sirius lay him down on the sofa and covered him with two blankets before casting a warming charm over him.
“I’m going to make tea, ok? I’ll be right back.” Sirius already knew that when he got back from the kitchen, Remus would be asleep. Which as long as he was warm, was fine.
Sure enough, less than five minutes later, Remus was curled up on his side, clutching the blankets up to his face, mouth wide open, drooling slightly, fast asleep. Sirius set down the tea next to him and watched slowly as the colour came back into his friend’s face and his panic subsided slightly.
He grabbed the two-way mirror off the coffee table and called James, retreating back into the kitchen.
“Alright, mate?” James’ grinning face popped up almost instantly.
“Alright, Prongs? Is Lils there?” He said quickly.
“Oh, I see how it is!” James laughed. “No ‘how was your day, Prongs?’, no ‘fancy a pint, Prongs?’.”
“Moony just got back from a stakeout and I’m worried about how cold he was, and unless you’re a healer all of a sudden, you’re no help to me at this precise moment. I love you, but please, fetch your lovely wife so I can ask her to work for free!”
“I’m already here, Padfoot.” Lily appeared over James’ shoulder. “How cold are we talking?”
“Well, I’m pretty sure he lost consciousness for a few seconds just after he got here, then he woke up, and now he’s asleep. He’s currently on the sofa under two blankets with a heating charm and he’s a bit less pale and cold, but I’m still worried.”
“Ah, no, magic won’t help at this point. You’re going to have to do this the muggle way.” Lily looked very serious.
“Tea?”
“No. You need to both get naked and cuddle for warmth.” She said.
“What?” Sirius almost dropped the mirror. “Naked?”
“Oh come on, Pads. It wouldn’t be the first time, would it?” James chuckled.
“That’s not- Lily, are you serious?”
Lily held a hand over James’ mouth as he said ‘no, but you are’, “I am. It’s the only thing that can help at this point. He should be ok, but you need to get him warm now.”
“Yeah. Yeah, ok. Shit. Thanks, Lils.” Sirius set down the mirror and pulled his shirt over his head.
“Is it that bad?” James turned to Lily, looking worried.
“Nah, Remus’ll be fine. Just thought I’d give them both a little push in the right direction.” She grinned at her husband, and in that moment, he’d never loved her more.
