Basking in the Shadow of a Happy Spouse
It was a few days after their friends visit that Rabastan finally remembered to ask Harry about the workshop his friends mentioned. His husband explained that it used to be the space where he developed his protective gear and weapons he used in the duels in the past 3 years. And wasn’t that a surprise, the level of skills one needs to have to creat those is impressive. He had seen Harry in a few of his matches and his gear is in such a high quality that he respected Lord Potter for commissioning it. Things in that caliber cost a fortune.
As impressive as it was, Rabastan was confused by that development why would Harry insist on making his own protective gear, it’s not unheard off but it was still very odd and normally only done by the professionals. He was then disappointed to discover that when he was 14 Harry was attacked and his gear was sabotaged right before a match and his furious mother refused to continue paying for Harry’s ‘hobby’, so he found a way around it. Got the raw materials from various connections, created his own gear up to his standards, and worked commissions to pay for his admissions instead of using any Potter gold. James at Lily’s insistence added strict limitations to Harry’s personnel vault, the last time Harry used Potter gold for anything other than school was right before that competition. Even the workshop was in Lovegood estate and was paid with funds he earned in tutoring jobs.
(He did know about the sabotage and how his husband decimated the perpetrators in the dueling ring. Later they were constantly targeted by the twins, and Neville who took offense at what was written on Harry’s belongings. After the betrothal became official Rabastan had the situation investigated discreetly to make sure it isn’t something to be concerned about. He found that the competitors did not appreciate their advancement were rejected so they destroyed his gear, wrote she-male freak on everything and tried to ambush Harrison. Rabastan took immense pleasure in making them regret their life choices.)
Rabastan asked him if that is something he enjoyed doing, because honestly with his quality of craftsmanship it be a waste not to. Harry enjoyed the processes of researching and developing it all, in fact he was hoping to use the dueling circuits as a chance to make connections and make his brand known. Now that he had to divert from everything, he didn’t see the point, what self respecting combatant would buy something so important from an unknown, especially when the market is so small. Rabastan was amused by how clueless his husband is about certain things. Very few armor makers have ever only focused on Battle robes, and even than it’s an item that’s passed down in families.
He remembers Avery and himself even trying to figure out who was the maker of the gear 2 years ago talking about buying some, it was that good. They even approached James who didn’t know, though now Rabastan understood why the man was sour about it. It was able to withstand some curses that normal gear was demolished by. People like his family who wear outer coats commissioned by special craftsman will happily make the investment.
“How could you be so closely tide to the main line of the Black family and not realize that?“ Harry is far to observant to miss something like that.
“It seemed like a Black Family thing… and a Potter, but Grandmother was raised a Black, so again, a Black thing…” Fair, it does sound like a Black thing...
It took him a while, but his beloved was convinced; why not he said and worked on re-opening his shop or as he liked to call it; Festus the Thestral. They refurbished 3 rooms in the east wing of the manor for a work area, a smithy and a testing room. Contacted the Romanian Dragon reserve to purchase raw materials (and wasn’t that connection a surprise.) along with a few other suppliers and 3 weeks later he was ready to re-start working. He somehow managed to miss that his little minx didn’t just make protective gear, but high-quality weapons. Who knew that smithing is something you can learn with enough desperation. Though how he managed to get Goblin silver Rabastan was too afraid to ask.
If Rabastan after talking to his husband about grasping the depth of his expertise he happen to heavily encouraged his beloved to test in the Alchemist, Runes, and enchanters guilds knowing full well he would be certified, it was only because he wanted his Harrison to have the official acknowledgment to back up his work. It had nothing to do with the Potters audacity at degrading all his darling’s hard work…
2 weeks later a very smug Rabastan went out to an evening with his friends wearing his new high-quality speciality made coat. The knife in his boot was just as impressive. Caius Avery immediately recognized the style from Harry’s matches and started cursing him for not letting him know he found the maker. Some of the curses were brushed of the coat (something he was very much aware would happen from the testing phase, and yes, he was showing off). He informed Caius that it was a gift from his darling husband.
It took a little more fishing from everyone to realize that Harry literally made it, it was why they couldn’t find where he got it from. When he took out his new knife Rodolphus tried to steal it. Regulus on the other hand took out his birthday gift from 2 years ago, told them not to touch the blade it’s coated. Turns out he knew all along and choose to watch them flounder. He, his parents, and Cassiopeia already commissioned their jackets and knives from Harry 3 years prior, (it was how Harry had the funds he needed for his competitions and later investments.) he explained that his husband really doesn’t understand how impressive his work is and thought they were indulging him. Cassiopeia would be thrilled he was finally ready to focus on his craft, she has a list of clients in the wait.
The following day Rabastan was not surprised by having Regulus, Caius, Evan and their wives, Rodolphus, and even Orion and Walburga Black in his husbands' workshop getting measured and choosing leathers and fabrics they would like for the designs. What did amuse him was the clothes he placed on the dolls in the experiments room and asked them to test a certain range of curses, to see if that is the module they are comfortable with. Lady Black was a little too pleased with just how thorough it was with fire and acid for anyone’s comfort, but the commission she ordered was impressive enough that he kept his opinion to himself. Though seeing Milndra Avery smile ordering a set of throwing knives from his husband after testing his set made him shiver, especially when he saw Bridget Black eyeing the set.
His husband had enough orders to keep himself busy for the next 6 months, and he haven’t even told anyone he was taking on a sort of new profession. It didn’t help that the men was preparing for 3 different mastery exams, in 3 different guilds. Though according to Orion, Walburga, Evan he was more than ready and they would happily sponsor him for their respective guilds. The three surprise guests that arrived at their home that week amused him just as much. His father took offense at having to hear about his husband's talent from Lord Black of all people, just to feel like an arsehole when Rabastan chased him into his personal office where he added the strongest silencing wards and discreetly told him not to ruin Harry’s Yule gift for him. (the men agreed to play stupid, though he was tickled to find out that his son-in-law bribed a house elf to get the measurements)
Madam Bones and Rufus Scrimgeour were a shock to the system. Turns out Harry made Susan several shirts for her birthday last year that her aunt and Scrimgeour were impressed with after seeing her spar while wearing it, they have each been dying to buy some. Madam Bones was only able to get one from her niece and even that was with a lot of emotional manipulation. So when Harry told his friends about re-opening the shop and focusing on commissions Susan imidiatly contacted her aunt before he finished telling them how overwhelmed he was from the first commissions, Susan didn’t even have the decency to pretend to feel bad. Each ordered a work wardrobe of basic shirts, pants, vests and coats dropped a hefty deposit, told him to take his time and left. Harry was really confused by that, Rabastan knew this was going to be a thing.
Though he was surprised that his bonded knew how to make tailored daily clothes until the man explained that his grandmother taught him to never rely on anyone but himself for proper attire, and Harry’s mind somehow translated it in to having the Potter elves teach him how to make, and repair his own outfits… As he thought it over, she was a Potter (even if she was a born Black) it sounded right up their ally, or she might have been misunderstood but liked this turn of events better. From what he knew about Dorea Potter both options were equally possible.
Harry did end up hiring a seamstress, that way he can focus on the protection work and designs while she did the the brunt of the sowing in a quality he was comfortable with. That alone cut his workload by more than half. With the amount of work he placed into the runic arrays along with the alchemy that went into the fabric itself he really needed the help. That was before going into the weapons he made, it was amazing to see the things he produced. Harry was self taught and the stuff he did was a high quality you can only get in the most exclusive shops. Rabastan would know, that is where he normally gets his coats from (though now he will wait patiently to convince his husband to let him pay for a daily wardrobe). No self-respecting Pureblood would even consider wearing outerwear without a certain level of protection. The coats Harry creates are on a level that most battle robes might reach. And he did it with an alchemical formula he developed to make the material withstand better range of temperature and assault.
By the time they reached Yule Harry was considering opening a studio or at least work outside of the house. The problem was he liked spending his afternoons at home working in the workshop and wasn’t in a rush to leave it. The only issue is that he really didn’t want to have clients come to their home. The ones that were there so far were family and friends, so it didn’t count, but once Cassiopeia got wind of this, he had to hold her back telling her he was already overwhelmed with orders before he even decided on making a living out of this.
It didn’t hurt that Harry made her a special bracelet and told her she inspired the design. Seeing Harry demonstrate its uses by decapitating the practice doll with such relish and Cassiopeia cheering him on made him wonder why people think he is the scary one in this relationship. Though she did leave with an indulgent smile and instructed his darling to keep her updated. It was amusing to watch what he learned was an old argument as she tried to convince him to change the name and got nowhere. Something Rabastan couldn’t even bother with, since he was too amused by how his beloveds 14-year-old mind worked.
Why Harrison decided to sign his work with Festus and a drawing of a thestral Rabastan will never understand. But apparently happy the thestral was a perfect name in Harry’s mind, something he still insists on. It was nice having Harry so pleased with his work, unfortunately the man really didn’t understand his worth having Rabastan constantly boosting the prices up to prevent Harry from underselling himself. It was frustrating and amusing. On the one hand he had to keep a close eye on his husbands pricing, on the other hand it’s because the work is so simple and logical in Harry’s mind that he honestly doesn’t understand why people would pay when they can just make it themselves. Then he reminds himself that Harry figured it out at 14 mostly through books and experimenting so he has a distorted view.
Yule holiday was nice up to a point, the family dinner at Lastrange manor was more pleasant than normal considering Bellatrix was eyeing his husband fully aware that he will not tolerate her nonsense. In the few months that passed since their bonding he had provided her with several reminders that he is Dorea Potter née black favorite grandson for a reason. (Something that Harry himself in unaware off but Regulus and Cassiopeia enjoy reminding the rest). The few events they had to attend also passed pleasantly, it was the dinner at Potter manor that he could do without.
The few times they did spend with his husband's family in the past few months never ended well. Harry always comes home holding back tears, and quietly confessing to him something else that was said or done that hurt him deeply. Honestly, he can’t figure out what their problem is, Harry doesn’t even bother talking to them at this point, the only times he is in their presence is when he has no other option. Does Lord Potter even care that they have managed to drive his youngest to the point where being in their presence makes him physically ill?
He honestly does not know how the evening is going to happen without cursing them into oblivion. What was worse is that Heir Black, Mr. Lupin and their families are going to be there as well adding to the strain. Regulus told him a little of Sirius’s doing and frankly he can understand why Harry avoids him. The man’s sense of humor tends to be targeted, and it was only made worse by Harry being his and Marcus’s favorite option. He remembers in events seeing Sirius and Marcus ‘jokingly’ gang up on people thinking they are funny; however, it is one thing to do to an adult, and another to a child so much younger than yourself.
What made it worse was that it was most of the interaction the man normally had with Harry. Then Harry was found to be a carrier, and Sirius completely lost what little interest he had in him. He never voiced it, but he always looked at the youngest Potter with pity. Then there was Mr. Lupin who never bothered to even pretend to care. Marcus is the eldest, so he is everyone’s favorite, Dahlia is his pup considering she is Remus’s goddaughter. And Harry was the quiet child that often spent time with his grandmother so they all mostly left him be. So much so that half the time they didn’t notice when the child was around.
There is a reason Harry calls lord Black uncle Orion, and Regulus was the one who taught him how to fly, for Hela’s sake he is the only one that can get away with calling Lady Black aunt Wally. After Dorea passed Harry felt more comfortable spending his time with the Black’s, and going to them if he needed something. It’s not like the Potters cared…
It was good he was so close with the Blacks, this way he didn’t feel as disconnected when the Potters remembered him, though it was sad to see his approach to each when it came to the holidays. As opposed to the Blacks, and the Lastrange Harry didn’t bother making the Potters gifts (even Bellatrix received a beautifully embroidered shawl) he owl ordered things, had the elves pack them and didn’t bother further.
The dinner itself was less atrocious than expected by a smidge, though Rabastan did not miss the number of jokes made in his husbands' expanse. Had Harry not explicitly asked him to let it go he would have lashed out hours ago, the people present were under the delusion that his hurt was over, and they were all passed it. Marcus and Sirius really enjoyed joking about Harry being the new Lady of House Lastrange. Not bothering once to find out what it is that he does with his time, even if Harry wasn’t working on his studio do they realize being a Lady of a House is a full time job?. Their wives just rolled with it laughing at their jokes. The children took it as a signal that Harry was not important, something his husband himself agreed with, and ignored him for the most part. (Which honestly was for the best)
Dahlia and James at least were focused on Black’s, and Lupin’s children, so for once their lack of tact was not an issue, merely their emotional intelligence. However, he was most angry with Lily and Remus discussing the creature reserve mostly asking Marcus and James for opinion and ideas, ignoring the fact that it was Harry who opened it and planned the module they were working with. Sure, Remus’s is the one managing it, and Marcus is the official sponsor and head magizoologist, but why are they ignoring that it was Harrison, and Luna who set up the self-sustaining system they are currently discussing. Up until 2 years ago both were heavily involved with the sanctuary since neither Marcus, nor Remus had the connections (Luna) and practical knowledge and grasp (Harry with close assistance from Neville) to work as smoothly.
It was insulting to witness how Harry’s work and contribution was being sidelined. Especially when he noticed how often Lily would praise Marcus for the success of the sanctuary; though a few times Marcus did attribute Harry with the credit, his ‘darling’ mother-in-law simply praised him what an indulgent brother he is. Honestly Rabastan was counting the moments until they are home, his husband was barley eating holding on to polite smiles, not even saying any words at that point. He made the mistake of being hopeful that this was the worst of it, but than at the end of the meal James asked to talk to Rabastan privately. He should have just avoided it, but he was in Lord Potter’s home.
As they went to sit in a privet parlor Sirius joined them as if he were invited. It was clear they were trying to ask about his husband and how he is doing. It was pathetic how he just now bothers too; Merlin forbids he talks to his kid. There was no way that Rabastan was going to make it easy on them. They lost that right when they showed no care as to how deeply they hurt someone they claimed is kin. It was after 10 minutes of fishing that was going nowhere when Sirius snapped.
“For fuck sake James, just ask. Why are you keeping Harry from his family?” The idiot asked accusingly, Potter at least had the decency to look unhappy with him.
Rabastan looked at them with the most scathing look “really, that’s how you want to go about this?”
“Yes, he hasn’t come to Potter manor since august, he doesn’t talk to any of us unless it’s in public. Barely even answer any of our letters. Why else if not you.” Sirius was screaming by the end of it.
“Lord Potter, is that what you think is going on?” He wandered if he was just as stupid.
The man looked displeased, “I’m not sure, I know that if Harry wants something you wouldn’t be able to stand in his way, but I also know that someone as young as him can be impressionable.”
“So you what, married of your child to someone you think can and will manipulate him?” He said in the driest tone.
“No, I thought you would be able to protect him, I didn’t realize it would include keeping him trapped in your manor.” He said accusingly.
“Protect him from what? He is more capable than any hit wizard you put against him, not to mention your kid is as paranoid as a proper Black. Unlike yourself his grandmother educated him throughly.” He told Potter scathingly.
That back and forth went on for a while, until tempers were barley in control. Black was about to say something when Potter cut him off. “Enough! Rabastan, why are you pushing my child away from me.” He said it as if Rabastan was at fault.
“You really are obtuse if you think I am doing anything. Had you paid attention to the dinner you just attended you could have figured it out. But if that’s too much for your lacking social skills perhaps you should remember the last conversation you had with your son in this study and re-consider that question.” Rabastan told him unimpressed.
Off course that was when Sirius had to open his big mouth. “O please, just because we’re not all as posh as you when it’s just family doesn’t mean there is anything wrong. Get over yourself. Besides, it's been over 6 months, Harry had enough time to cool off. The kid doesn’t know how to hold on to anger. Easpcially not with family.”
Rabastan had enough. “Then you should not have made it abundantly clear that none of you see him as family. Maybe then he would consider your presence as anything other than cruel.” He looked Potter straight in the eye when telling him that. He was beyond angry at this point.
“What are you on about, of course he is family, stop putting lies in his head.” Of course it was Black that answered, but James looked at him worried it seems the idiot understood something else was the issue.
“You know Black, considering that out of all of those in the room you barely exchange two words with him, you really aren’t allowed to claim that. Do you even know who did the brunt of the work to set up the creature reserve you heard so much about tonight?” He was curious if the man was that disconnected.
“Phhtt… it was Marcus, who else. This is his brainchild…Stop spewing crap and get to to the real point.” He looked angry, but Potter had the decency to look uncomfortable. “No padfoot, it was Harry and Luna, they knew how much Marcus wanted to but didn’t have the organizational skills and connections. So Harry somehow figured out everything Marcus wanted to do and made it come to life with Luna’s help. Even hiring Remus was Harry’s doing, because he knew how much Marcus and I wanted him to but couldn’t figure out a how to make it happen with his werewolf status and all. At 14 Harry managed to find several ancient pure blood laws that not only made it legal for us to hire him, but added legal protections to him.” Black just looked at him confused.
“How about you Potter going to claim you treat him the same as the rest of your family? How his hard work was worth any sort of acknowledgment in your eyes? After all your closest friend is not even aware of his involvement. Want to claim you made him feel anything other than unwanted?” He looked at him bored.
“Harry was never unwanted. Yes, I screwed up. Harry worked tirelessly on something amazing, and it somehow got brushed off. I can see how hurtful that can be. But my kid knows he has a home here, were his family. Don’t you dare say that he is unwanted.” He said angrily.
“So that’s why you let him dream, plan, and work himself none stop and not once told him he was in a betrothal contract as soon as he was done with Hogwarts?” He said to the idiot.
“That’s why he is still angry? Because he can’t do the circuits, it’s too dangerous, he should know better.” He said with exasperation.
“You really are an idiot if you think that is the problem. You let him make his big brother’s dream come to life but blocked him when he tried to do the same for himself. “ he can see the idiots are starting to understand, finally. “To make matters worse for 3 years everyone in that dinner table knew! Allowed him to work himself to the bone, make connections and commitments and never once bothered to tell him the truth. He sincerely believes you got rid of him the first chance you had.” He talked slowly so the idiots would comprehend. “It’s not like you care that he can carry children, after all your daughter got a say and she is still single. Or that you mind he chose a risky career path, Dahlia is a spell crafter, and Marcus is a magizoologist. As far as he is aware, for some reason before he turned 15 you signed a contract without even a courtesy conversation to inform him and waited for the moment that he graduated to marry him off so he is no longer a Potter.” He was trying not to shout but he was holding it in for a while.
“Is that really what he thinks” James asked brokenly.
Rabastan was shocked by how obtuse he is. “He doesn’t have a reason to think otherwise. Between your wife constantly demeaning him, and you ignoring when people are disrespecting him it’s only reinforced. It doesn’t help that your other two children go out of their way to crush him every chance they get. To remind him just how much he embarrasses your house.” He really wants to curse those two to oblivion.
It was Black that again had to open his big mouth, “what, they would never do that, they adore him.”
Rabastan actually scuffed at that. “This coming from the man who joins with Marcus in belittling Harry until he doesn’t bother to talk, something Regulus warned me is a constant. The two of you like ganging up on people until the whole room laughs at them, I never thought it was funny but I ignored when it was to adults who should be able to handle it, imagine my surprise when I’m told you have been doing it to Harry since he was 7. Did you know that the thought of dinners like tonight makes him so upset he is physically ill.” If Black startled face was any indication, he might finally start to see the real issue.
”Before our bonding he overheard his ‘adoring’ mother and sister in law talking with his cousins, off course his ‘nurturing’ brother and sister were also part of the discussions. They were wondering if him being a carrier is why he isn’t that smart, went to great length discussing just how unimpressive he is. Said that at least now his big mouth would be put to good use. I can unfortunately truthfully say that I have seen those sentiments told to my husband by his ‘adoring’ mother and ‘loving’ cousins in several events.” Potter and Black just stared at him opened mouth. “I’m done pretending your family is anything but hurtful to my husband. Until you get your house in order don’t bother contacting him. He deserves better than the way you people treat him.” He left the room with 2 shaken Idiots hoping the rest of the dimwits didn’t make things worse.
He was not surprised to come back to the salon where the rest of the adults were sitting, though Remus, Marcus, and Dahlia were unconscious, while Harry was sipping tea and Marcus, Remus and Sirius’s wives just glared at him. He wouldn’t be shocked if his husband silenced them and stuck them to their seat, it was his preferred method of dealing with Bellatrix. Though he did wonder where Lily was.
“Are we done?” His husband just looked at him. He shook his head in exhaustion and turned to leave; Harry was out of the door even before him. By the time they arrived home, Harry went to the dueling room to decimate everything in his path, he was seething. Rabastan wanted to join him but knew that with his current state of mind it was unwise and fairly explosive, not that Rabastan was any better.
That night they laid in bed together but did not really talk. Rabastan held his husband as he cried quietly barely able to voice anything from how hurt he was. From the little Harry said the Potters decided to do an intervention because in their view Harry clearly needs to start doing something with his life. They kept talking but Harry just tuned them out until he couldn’t anymore. It didn’t help that his mother kept talking about not letting Rabastan charm him away from his options. Turns out she found an extensive list of ways to call his husband stupid and impressionable.
The next morning Rabastan let Harry know that he informed Lord Potter that until he gets his house under control they are not welcomed. His husband looked relived at that. The rest of the holiday passed pleasantly. Several of their friends came to visit which was nice. Gifts were exchanged, drinks were shared, all in all it was good. By the time they had to go to the New years ball at Malfoy manor Harry looked him straight in the eye and with a husky voice asked “what it would take to not go… “
it amused him to no ends how terrible his husband is at flirtation and seduction. It was so bad it was good, he constantly found himself charmed. As much as he would rather have Harry pay a hefty fine for staying at home, they had to go. He hated himself for saying that.
Harry petulantly responded, “That’s fine, guess I’ll have to settle for a new year's kiss.” He might be terrible at flirting, but he always knew how to leave him wanting.
By the time they arrived at Malfoy manor Rabastan was ready to leave, his little minx was inspiring ideas, and this was not the place to ponder over them. Though he decided that tonight he will remain by his husband side. The last thing he needed was for a Potter to come near him and harass his husband further, there is no chance he will allow them to once again, sabotage his after party!
The event started with his beloveds' normal rounds that involved quite a lot of undertone trolling, so people were not really sure if they are being insulted or complimented. He loved watching how off balanced his husband left everyone, it only got worse when Neville and Luna joined. The three together had this naïve aura about them that got people to feel like arseholes for taking offense, it was beautiful. Even Lucius and his spawn were not safe from them, the 2 men were stuck in a 10-minute discussion over their famed albino peacocks clearly unsure if they are being mocked. Especially since both Harry and Luna were known for their love of magical creatures.
Watching the Carrow twins targeted by the combined effort of Neville and Harry trolling, just for Luna go for the kill with answering with various languages confusing the conversation further was a joy. He was discreetly informed by Neville that neither Luna nor Harry do well in these sorts of events when the twins are not there for a distraction. Who would have thought Fred and George Weasley would have a subduing effect on someone?
It was gratifying to see Harry approached by numerous people aiming to commission his wears, it didn’t hurt that Walburga Black, Bridget Black, Briana Rosier, and Milandra Avery were wearing his beautifully crafted shawls and gloves. Singing the praises of the various protections it can withstand along with the other things they commissioned. (He noticed amusedly non mentioned the deadly jewelry they received for Yule from his husband that they were wearing). And off course each had her husband talk about the winter coats they each commissioned. How people should not even bother to talk to young Harisson unless they are prepared to talk to a true master of his craft. And yes, he was recently certified by 3 different guilds. Even they knew it was a mere formality…
If anyone was about to claim that his beloved was merely talked up by family doing good publicity, they were silenced by Madam Bones the head of the DMLE, showing off to Lord Black that her commission was already put to good use. Or Rufus Scrimgour inform Caius Avery that he should have made sure to order young Harrison’s daily wear that are just as impressive with the protective range and has already been tested multiple time in the field. Rabastan was really proud of him, though it was cute to see how flustered Harry was by this. Thankfully that was where Rabastan’s own skill was put to use, and he maneuvered everyone to approach him by owl so he could see if he has room for them. ‘You know how it is, his time is limited’.
The Potters were there as well, though for once they were keeping their distance, apart from the predictable cordial conversation they backed away. Rabastan’s glare, and Harry’s discomfort probably only encouraged the withdraw, thankfully. He wasn’t surprised when each one of them was stunned at Harry’s work being praised by people that are not easily impressed and know how to recognize the quality of such items. There was noticeable scheming to get a commission done by him. He also didn’t miss Dahlia and Marcus’s realization as to why Harry’s work looked so familiar. Rabastan did not miss Dahlia brush her left for forearm with discomfort, or Marcus hold to his abdomen with guilt. Do those 2 idiots think that dueling is merely jumping around and wand waving? Do they even understand the amount of work and genius that goes in to being in Harry’s level? Sure, few professionals actually go the extra length in making their own gear, but they have to have a remarkable specialty to have that extra edge on top of everything else to be in that level.
James tried to congratulate Harry about his craft, a pathetic attempt to reach out. It was nice to have Neville ask Lord Potter if he ever dreamed that pushing Harry so hard would get him to make such revolutionary developments. James sour face when he understood just how much further he failed his son was extremely rewarding. The pride of his youngest child’s achievement was soured by the fact that it was caused by the desperation his own father‘s unilateral choices created.
It probably shouldn’t have felt so sweet to have Walburga, Bridget, and Briana gang up on Lily and ask her if she is not proud of her youngest having 3 guilds certify him as a master of his craft at 18. Going on and on about how remarkable and ground breaking the young men is. Just as beautiful of a blow was to hear Lily try and divert the subject and discuss a promising young enchanter her husband discussed that for his Master Work he presented a shielding hair pin that can block everything but the unforgivables. Bridget looking at her confused saying, ‘it was one of Harry’s older modules… didn’t you know?’ Was beautiful…
When it was time to head home Harry was overwhelmed. He really didn’t understand why everyone was so impressed, Rabastan had a lovely time distracting him from his confusion. It seemed he had plenty of opportunity to put his ideas to clever use and was pleased with the results.
Unsurprisingly Harry was swamped with letters, asking questions and appointments to discuss the options of a commission. That was when his harried husband came to him with a pile of letters and a lost look. It was hilarious, though he knew better than to voice any sort of amusement. He went over all the letters with Harry to see what the questions were just to realize it was fairly repetitive, whats more with the scale of the orders here Harry will not be able to continue to work as he has. Not to mention they were both aware of Cassiopeia waiting at the seems to get his work out there.
That was when Rabastan set his husband down and talked to him about the next step. Harrison was already thinking about opening a studio so he had most of it figured out including having a few employees under strict secrecy contracts to work on the fabrics, and sawing. His runes sequences, and the alchemical formula were the key to his successes and he couldn’t risk the information leaking. Even how he placed the rune work in the items was done in such a way that to study the sequence will guarantee its destruction.
So a reluctant Harrison has accepted his fate and set down with Rabastan to properly plan ‘Festus the Thestral’ studio. His husband was clear that he wanted to minimize his presence in the studio and continue to do the complex work in his workshop at home, which was simple, and if he is being honest with himself was preferred. There were plenty of simple items that had the possibility of him doing the prototype and his employees did the brunt of the manufacturing. And when it comes to specialized request/commissions, he can cap it to 1 or 2 a month adding to the exclusivity of it all and leaving the pressure off himself. Whats more he can have the weapon manufacturing as a special request item only that are not often available claiming it is more to do with raw material adding to the rarity of it all.
He even had the display items already, by using his old gear showing how effective his work really is. Considering a person would happily pay a fortune for a shirt or a jacket that can withstand similar assault as dueling robes, it just added to it all.
The only concern was finding a manager, and a location that both Harry and Rabastan were comfortable with, for clearly different reason. After working out all the details of what it is they both thought was necessary for a studio to be up and running they worked on a base letter to the inquirers, adding that a studio is in the process of opening and these are the standardized items that would be available. Harry’s scandalized look when Rabastan automatically quadruple the price of each item was wonderful. Though his husband still didn’t seem to comprehend just how valuable his work is, he did relent when Rabastan reminded him he is going to have greater expanses with the employees and a property.
After that things moved rather quickly, Harry trusted Rabastan with a fair amount of the logistics, while he himself was working on supplies, and finding 6 more employees for the studio that can work to his standards. Considering that out of the 2 Harry was the one involved in starting multiple small businesses it was a real show of trust in Rabastan’s judgment. When he asked Harry if he didn’t want to be more involved his husband just looked at him like he was an idiot.
Rabastan was also confused as to why Harry insisted on looking for willing to learn squibs and werwolves, over Hogwarts graduates but knew better than to argue. Especially when his bonded pointed to Alice the seamsters he hired 3 months prior proved to be a sound investment with the consistent work quality and how loyal she was. That was when Rabastan found out his husband hired a squib to do the brunt of the sowing and he didn’t even realize.
He than elaborated that it is part of why most of his investments are so successful, most of these are people that just need a break and are grateful to the person that does not demean them for one. Once he saw the employment contracts, he understood what his husband meant. The pay and benefits were better than most places would ever offer; however, they had to put the work for it and hold to a strict level of secrecy and professionalism.
His choice of manager both surprised him and didn’t. Alicia Spinnet is someone whom Harry trusts, what Rabastan did not know was that she was the one to help him in the early designs and was often the one he went to when he was stuck. Poaching Alicia from the firm she was working in was not a challenge when it was Harry doing the asking, though Rabastan was certain the employment contract and the pay helped convince her faster. (He was pleased to discover she agreed before even knowing any of the details simply because it was Harry.)
Rabastan was surprised by the 2 werewolves his husband trained to work on the fabrics in his stead. The two quickly learned the procedure and how to do corrections while issues arise fairly quickly. That was when Harrison explained that this was the reason to him insisting on not hiring Hogwarts graduates, Part of why his team was so quick to learn was because they had no bad habits to unlearn. Though if he is being honest his husband was very thorough in teaching them how to do it all, Rabastan wishes any of his teachers would have been this clear and comprehensive.
Less then 6 weeks later they were ready for the opening of ‘Festus the Thestral’ studio. A name Cassiopeia often complained about (though it was easy to see how much she enjoyed the ridiculousness of it). It was a simple 3 story building with glass window store front at Horizon ally, Harry refused to even consider a more luxuries district saying he is a craftsman, not a ponce. The entrance floor had the display, sitting areas for consultations, and fitting rooms. It was decided that all clothing despite being standard must be ordered because a fitting was still necessary. Though items like scarves, shawls, gloves, etc… will be available for immediate purchase. The first floor has a dueling room devoted to test the effectiveness of the items, along with room to work with clients privately on special commissions so they wouldn’t come to their home. The top floor was where the employees did the majority of the production. Though the alchemy shop, and forges were in the 1st level basement, whereas storage was in the lower basement.
Rabastan was impressed by the scale, and thoroughness of the wards Alicia and Harry set up on the building. It was in multiple rune languages, including utilizing beast speak when they set it up. There was no way in or out of the structure unless it’s from an acknowledged entrances and even than it was limited in how you are keyed to the wards if you can step foot outside of the public space of the 1st floor. The identification of any magics, and physical changes a person can do to themselves were identified in a way that would make Gringotts jealous. When he asked when they had time to create defenses so thorough Alicia looked at him with a haunted look saying the prank war of 94’. Knowing their friends he can understand the desperation.
It was comical to have Harry order the materials only to have the Romanian Dragon reserve link him to another reservation in Japan that normally refuses to work with Europeans because they don’t like their attitude towards magical beings. Once they realized it was Harrison Lastrange née Potter they happily changed their tune.
Harrison Potter was often quoted at being confused at why the shade of your core, or status of your being carry any significance. Considering he was a child of a neutral house with the status of Most Ancient and Most Noble saying this after successful dueling tournaments has attracted quite a lot of attention. Plenty of it was unpopular in their social circles but between the closeness with the Black family and being the youngest Potter, no one really dared make a fuss.
It was endearing seeing his husband work with the new materials the Japanese reserve provided him with. It opened new avenues that Harry was a little too excited about for Rabastan’s sanity. Though a few of the new designs were impressive. Especially when Neville and the twins came to test the effectiveness. At first Rabastan was confused why Harry insisted on doing the testing in an empty scorched field whilst using unregistered wands until he saw what those lunatics had in mind. After testing was done, he agreed on with the wisdom of said decision and wondered if they were far enough from civilization for this madness.
When an opening date was decided they didn’t advertise, simply informed their friends to let people know. It proved to be best considering the studio was packed with clients making orders and emptying the existing stock. It took nearly a month for matters to settle to a pace where people stoped overwhelming the studio with orders, and everyone can settle into a routine. Though Rabastan was certain that was mostly due to Harry negotiating with Cassiopeia that he would allow her to suggest every other client for a personal commission for a year.
When summer arrived Rabastan realized it was about to be a year of marriage and he was pretty sure they were both pleased with where they were. Rabastan mostly worked on the house business further expanding their well-established wealth and was extremely busy with maneuvering some of the house networks. Harry was still working on getting over the hurt his family caused, but having professional stability did wonders to his psyche. He had his series of small business that he was a silent partner in that needed very little interference on his behalf. Mostly monitoring and occasionally a nudge in the right direction. The studio was doing well and has already returned all the original costs, so it is no longer in the negative. Considering it is a new business with very expansive raw materials is impressive.
Between the two of them things are progressing well, especially once Rabastan realized Harrison is easy to get along with when you tell him things. The man doesn’t necessarily agree, but he listens. Even then, they don’t fight as much as argue conversationally. They each have their own opinions and beliefs that don’t necessarily oppose as much as differ. And both tend to be respectful about those differences, it helps that both prefer to listen to the others explanation before casting judgment and even then, they don’t offer their opinion unless explicitly asked.
The longer he is in this relationship the worse he feels for his big brother, him and Bellatrix never not fight, even when they are silent, Rodolphus spends so many evenings and free days in their manor it’s disheartening. Though it does help that most of their close friends regularly visit since Harry and himself prefer to work from home when they are able to. So his brother’s lack of desire to go home is not as noticeable to others. Still, its nice having him around.
Though if he is being honest with himself at the moment he really wish their home was less welcoming. His darling husband has started ambushing him all over the place in ways Rabastan adores. A year ago shower sex was a fantasy, now he can safely say the gardens are only comfortable in some of the sections for one on one activity. These pass 2 months had been in enlightening, he never realized how flexible and mischievous Harry can be when he wants something. Though having his husband whisper in his ear that if he doesn’t get him home in the next 5 minutes he will leave and take care of matters himself was very distracting while at the Selwyn luncheon.
Now he is trying to decide what he should do for their anniversary; combine it with Harry’s birthday, or listen to Harry’s request of doing something quiet. Harry himself doesn’t really like big events and would prefer having people he likes for a small celebration. However, it is their first year of marriage, and how they treat each other in public is very visible, especially as Harry’s break from the Potters did not go unnoticed. The family has a reputation of only being cordial when they dislike you, it’s why certain faux pas are often dismissed with ‘it’s a Potter…” as the only explanation, which it really is. So for them to be nothing but cordial is worse than a screaming match. To make matters more frustrating Rabastan had a birthday party at a luxuries venue planned by Harry, something he enjoys. So between the visibility, the public break with the Potters, and Rabastan having a big expensive celebration doing anything less will be an interpreted as an intentional insult that will irreparably damage Harry’s social standing.
He is not sure what to do, and Harry looking at him with huge scheming eyes when ever he brings it up doesn’t help. His husband doesn’t want a fuss and used various effective methods to bribe him to figure it out on his own. He jokingly tried getting him to talk about ideas in the studio just to see how far it would go, only for Harry look around suspiciously, throw every ward conceivable at the door and drop to his knees. If that is not a big enough hint, he doesn’t know what is.
He tried turning to Rodolphus for ideas, only for his brother to floo Neville and the twins saying they will know the best options (their social circles truly merged in a bizarre way in the past year.). Talking to them turned out to be a great and dreadful experience. They had wonderful ideas that would give a show of luxury that would spoil him rotten, while also allow Harry privacy that otherwise would not be possible.
His grandmother used to regularly take him to her favorite vacation home in Quebec, Canada. It’s where she trained him how to use his magic, turns out it is also where she taught him how to re-construct, and ride a motorcycle. After Neville explained what a motorcycle is Rabastan was not surprised that a Potter even one born a Black would find something like that essential, she’s a Potter… Harry has only been there twice since her passing and was planning to have his 18th birthday there last year before it was decided he has other plans. (he did not miss George’s pointed comments) The problem is it will require corporation from James Potter of all people, he really didn’t want to deal with him.
He started with sending a letter asking to meet with lord Potter privately in Lastrange manor and getting Alicia to discreetly create an opening for his husband between commissions without him noticing. As soon as Alicia saw the dates she laughed and said no trouble, though she did warn him that it means she is going to over work him prior so they won't have a back log by the time they return. Rabastan honestly preferred it, it kept his husband distracted while he had to deal with James, which unsurprisingly happened the next day. The Potters have been on their best behavior since Lord Potter understood how much his family hurt his youngest. Rabastan did not delude himself to believe that Lily had any care, he could see James and Marcus holding her on a tight leash after a few ‘sleeps of the tongue’.
Predictably, his father had no issue with Rabastan conducting this business at Lastrange manor, especially when he explained it was a surprise for his husband’s birthday. When Lord Potter arrived, he was resigned but kept himself in check. Rabastan didn’t even have a chance to make the request, James already took out most of the papers necessary for property transfer. It turns out James knowing how much his son cherished that home, was planning on gifting it to Harry for his 18th birthday. Once the betrothal became official, he had to undo part of the transfer, so it wasn’t mistaken for a bride price and absorbed to the Lastrange properties, he waited for the right time for it to be Harry’s and not a Lastrange or a Potter property. As the meeting went on, Rabastan was becoming frustrated, the mixed massages the man in front of him was sending were maddening. He clearly cared for his child, and paid attention for some of the things that mattered to Harry. But then he turned around and made unilateral decisions that just shattered his youngest in ways he still hasn’t recovered from.
he knows Harry is just as confused over his father’s behavior, James kept saying to Harry that nothing changed, even encouraging him, yet in the same breath closed every avenue Harry had chosen for himself. What’s worse was that he didn’t even seem to notice the massage it sent the rest of the family, they learned that you didn’t have to treat him with the same respect as the rest of the Potters, not when the lord of the house, his own father consistently did not afford him any of the minimal courtesies that are reserved to every members of house Potter. Sure, he received the minimal that is expected of a member of a most ancient and Nobel house, but not those that are Potter unique. This behavior was breaking his husband's heart, and he really needs to put a stop to it. Though Lily’s dismissive behavior towards Harry did exasperate the problem.
“I don’t understand you Potter, you clearly had it planned for years, what changed?” He tried asking calmly, but really it was too much.
James took a deep breath and ran a hand over his hair its like he was going over options, “when Harry was growing up it was obvious he wasn’t like the others around him. No, I don’t mean about the carrier thing. “ he added quickly when he saw Rabastan’s outrage. “you already knew how precious my kid is long before that. I could see it for years, honestly I was relived when you sent the request to marry him. This was probably the first time being the Lastrange executer made you an appealing prospect to a parent. Also, my mother respected you, so I figured you may be my son’s best chance.” Nice to know, but where is this going?
Potter took out a small, beautiful pen knife, played with it as a distraction. “You know, I only recently realized he made this, didn’t recognize the maker when he gifted it to me years ago, but loved it. It wasn’t for any occasion, he just left it on my desk with a note saying thought of you. He used to do that all the time, no matter how badly any off us massed up he would reach out in a small gesture to let us know he loves us. Talked to Marcus and Dahlia, both checked their gifts to see that for years he made us various objects that we adore, in Marcus’s case even saved his life. Since the wedding everything we received was store bought and obligatory.” He took a deep breath while glaring at the knife.
“When you have a child I pray to every god that would hear that he is not nearly as special as my son.”, Rabastan wanted to take offense, his husband is a gift, but knew he should see where this is going first. Potter sounded so tired saying that. ”my kid was always impressive, his gifts aren’t as noticeable as most but if you know how to read the fluctuations in the magic you can see what’s beneath the surface. Unfortunately, he had to go and choose the one profession where people survive by looking deeper, by studying everything about you and tearing you apart.” This got Rabastan’s attention, was there more danger lurking in the shadows and Potter never even bothered to warn him
“The good thing was that mother was able to teach him how to blend, and at least attempt to be like the others. But you know how it is when someone is gifted, they can’t not shine, even you noticed it when he was a child but you at least had the decency to keep a respectful distance. Yes, I noticed you pay extra attention to my child, I notice anyone who does.” James had a dark look that promised pain, it was a similar one his father gave when ever perceived a threat to him, and his brother.
“Then we found that my son is a carrier and we had to be even more carful. We initially tried to keep it quiet, and for a while it worked. Unfortunately, fucking Dumbledore had to shove his crooked nose. I still don’t know how that twinkly eyed menace found out, or what gave him the right to ‘allow’ that information to get out. I will never understand that arsehole. Thankfully Regulus and I confirmed that was the only information he got.” Good, Regulus is thorough he would break the world to make sure his family safe. “Anyway once his status became known my son turned from a magical prodigy to a desired commodity. Not everyone took no for an answer, I’m sure you know about the attack when he was 14 before one of his matches, it wasn’t the first just the closest. What you are likely unaware was that it was a prelude to something worse, Marcus and I took care of it, thoroughly.” He said with a dark look in his eyes that Rabastan felt slightly reassured, though he will be looking further into that.
“We didn’t tell him, didn’t want to scare him. Harry for all his strength wouldn’t understand, he is a good person, and he cares. He knows about the wretched side of people in theory but he doesn’t understand it. He sees the dueling circuit as a sport not seeing its more like a shopping venue for various options.” Rabastan did know, that’s where he hired some of his more affective operatives, he also knew the Potters have a distorted view of Harry. Did he not understand what Harry regularly attending the circuits with Dorea and Orion meant?
Despite Rabastan’s incredulous look James kept going, “Thankfully most of the shadier players tend to avoid the athletes, the problem was that him being surrounded by them opened opportunities to reach him. The teen division was still manageable, I don’t think that Harry himself is aware how many ‘hazing’ incidents were attempts on his person. We were terrified what would happen once he reached adult division.” James looked Rabastan with a haunted look that made it clear he still thinks about it at night.
“Why not just tell him, Harry isn’t stupid, nor is he suicidal.” Rabastan regularly sits with him and goes over his entire risk assessment to Harry’s safety, he always receives an indulgent smile as Harry goes over the files and the parameters with him. His husband respects that there are things that he shouldn’t chance and doesn’t argue when openly provided information. Sure he might not always agree, but as long as he feels like his opinion is respected, he works with Rabastan.
“We tried, but he just wouldn’t listen. Ended up cutting him off just so he wouldn’t be able to afford it from how desperate we were. Of course, trust Harry to find a way around it, though I only recently figured out he build his gear himself. Drove me crazy where he got the funds from.” He looked both exasperated and proud.
“Did you explain the danger, or just made a unilateral decision and informed him?” He looked at the idiot. “I have personal experience of placing restrictions on my husband’s movement when it comes to security and never had to resort to anything but an upfront conversation. Moreover, I happen to know Harry’s side of you cutting him off, we talked about it when I was confused why a 14-year-old desperately learned alchemy and smithing when his father can easily afford everything. he doesn’t know that’s the reason why. He thinks it’s because you see him as an embarrassment.” He was tired at this point. James Potter is a bigger idiot than he realized, and he has a feeling his eldest is just as bad.
“What? How did he get from its too dangerous to you’re an embarrassment?” James sounded so confused. Though frankly it’s a good question, you need to be a special kind of stupid to mix those massages.
“Knowing my husband by paying attention to what he is being told.” He said in the driest tone, he looked at the idiot in exasperation. “Whats more, his safety and threat assessment is too important of a matter for you to butch the communication so thoroughly he doesn’t even know that’s what the conversation is about. You do realize this is a repetitive issue Harry has with you, right?
James just rubbed his hands on his face, “I’m starting to realize…how the fuck did it go so wrong?” He asked throwing his hands in the air.
“At this point I’m just as baffled, out of all your kids Harry is the most levelheaded, how you manage to not come across clearly is beyond me. Look, I need you to stop being so terrible when communicating with him. You don’t even begin to understand just how much you broke him. And if I’m being honest, I’m worried about how much more he can take.” Rabastan was tired of seeing his husband lost look when ever something with his family comes up, easpcially with James. Frankly he was greatful they at least backed off enough that they no longer pushed so hard that Harry cries himself to sleep.
“It was never our intention…” He gave a hollowed laugh. “not that it matters much does it.”
“No it does not…” Rabastan was tired, and slightly relived the idiot might not make things worse. Though now he did have to rethink his gift. He was planning to buy the property, and here comes a Potter to butch up his plans. Again. Though Neville’s back up idea was still an option, he wasn’t sure he was comfortable with it.
Informing Harry that they are going on a trip for his birthday was amusing, though he did try to bribe his way out of a big anniversary party. Once Rabastan promised him it will only be one event, and than a small birthday dinner with close friends and some family at home when they returned, he was pacified. It was amusing how during the party Harry realized he didn’t know where they were going, and Rabastan refusing to ruin the surprise only made it more amusing. It was than made funnier with Fred, George, Neville, and Rodo on random occasions build up how amazing it is, and how much Harry is going to love it. (He didn’t miss how all 4 made sure to talk it up next to the biggest gossips)
Seeing Harry’s face when they arrived to the house was amazing, he hugged Rabastan while being speechless. Last time he was there was when he was 13, Harry had a great time dragging Rabastan around the property showing him various spots, telling him funny stories from his time there. When they went into the house Rabastan sat him at the salon and showed Harry the deed.
“I was originally planning to buy it from him, figured wouldn’t be a challenge with how he is sniffing at any chance to build some bridges with you. Turns out he was already planning on gifting it to you, had the papers with him and everything, brought it to the meeting without even knowing what I wanted to talk about.” Rabastan tried to sound nonchalant but he could see how it was affecting Harry. “Kept getting angrier with him as he was talking, couldn’t understand what he was doing, honestly your dad is really unclear.” He couldn’t hide the growl in that.
Harry huffed in amusement. “I know, he tends to get all over the place while speaking, the more emotional he is the worst he gets. used to drive grandmother crazy.”
“Sounds about right, the more he rambled the angrier I got, ended up putting a stop to it and making him explain what his issue is. I was worried it’s going to be another situation of you being blind sided.” Harry stilled at that. “Turns out it’s exactly like you say, he is an idiot that doesn’t know how to communicate.” Harry just glared at him unimpressed. “The reason your family went out of it way to keep you from going to the dueling circuit was because they were barley keeping up with all the attempts on your person in the teen division.” Rabastan was tired, at that point he poured them both wine and started explaining.
“Remember the attack when you were 14? It was a distraction, you father and Marcus put a stop to the other part of the plan. According to James once word got out that you are a carrier not all people were satisfied with sending a betrothal agreement, some preferred a more direct approach.” As expected his husband wasn’t surprised. He already knew.
“That was part of why your father tried to stop you from dueling, it was the biggest security threat. You having a contract with me was also another way he used to shield you. I’m sure I don’t need to explain the stupidity of trying to take something that belongs to a Lastrange.” Harry looked tired at that.
“So instead of using words and communicating with any sort of coherency, my darling father schemes ways to keep me safe from dangers I’m already aware of and taken precautions against?” Rabastan just shakes hid head. He had a very upfront conversation about the target on Harry’s back, just for his husband to laugh in his face and present him with an even bigger file showing former attempts, suspicious personal, and potential threats. His husband was well aware and very thorough with his information. Honestly, there is a reason he and Cassiopeia get along so well, and it’s not just because he makes her weapons.
“I know, they’re idiots. I’m grateful you take after you grandmother.” That made his husband laugh.
“I have no words… its nice to know they weren’t just trying to get rid of me but how they went about everything broke me. Honestly, how can shitty communication skills be an excuse to shattering someone you claim to care about?” He wasn’t even angry, simply confused.
“I do not know, and do not understand! Figured the least I can do is let you know since this is your family and they’re important to you. Now can we please go and explore this house thoroughly? Alicia was only able to get me a 2 weeks window and we have plenty of rooms to cover.” Harry ran from him giggling.
After the first few days where they extensively enjoyed the house, (though there were certain rooms where Harry refused to even consider being anything other than fully dressed and proper. Which considering this was his late grandmothers vacation home he can respect.) They needed to go to town, which was when Rabastan took the chance to gift Harry his birthday gift. A 1970 triumph bonneville t120 motorcycle, though he did have find a muggleborn who specializes in converting muggle technology to be wizard friendly, it now had a few magical upgrades. Harry absolutely loved it, and took it around the property to get acquainted.
As much as Rabastan does not like the damn thing, and would happily never repeat the experience, Harry’s joy was infectious and made the entire experience tolerable. Though having the muggles ogling his husband did not help his mood. It did help seeing Harry not noticing any of them. Quite a few tried to flirt with him, and it flew over his head, it was beautiful to watch.
Rabastan remembers the first few time Rodolphus saw it happen and he just cussed Rabastan under his breath. Where his brother's wife luxuriates in the attention, Rabastan’s husband doesn’t even register it happened. It was amusing to discover Luna is just as bad. Neville and Alicia had to sit and explain to him that those two are oblivious geniuses with the attention spam of bowtruckle. And just like the chaotic creature they will notice only things that interest them, peoples finding them attractive does not make that list. Than he was throughly warned to be on alert with those two, just because they find no interest, doesn’t mean the other party won't try something. When that happens, he was recommended to contact the twins to make it go away. (That made sense.)
Spending the day in muggle Quebec with his husband was fun, he didn’t think he would enjoy it as much as he has but it was impossible not to with his husband's enthusiasm. The rest of their vacation there was just as enjoyable, though driving two hours on a motorbike to St. Lawrence River to see the penguins felt a bit much. By the time they went home Rabastan was ready to sleep for a month, he needed to check what was going on with his husband. Seriously he was at the point where he needed pepper ups to keep up.
Trying to get back to a routine turned out to be harder than normal, for some reason Harry was being clingy without even realizing it, which was odd. The man normally enjoys his space, but now he just prefers to stay with in touching distance, than there are the times Harry needs to go to the studio and he would shamelessly bribe Rabastan to come with him. There are plenty other times that were just as surprising.
When it was time for the birthday dinner Rabastan was at a loss, his husband’s behavior was getting more erratic, and he wasn’t sure what it meant. He asked Neville figured as Harry’s oldest friend he might have an idea, but Neville just gave him a look. When he asked Alicia she just called him an idiot and told him to take his husband to a healer. The women then proceeded to summon his husband and tell him that if he doesn’t see a healer today she will inform the twins; Harry became so pale Rabastan was honestly concerned. Then they both contacted healer Flint to see if she knows what the issue is. It took one diagnostics spell for him to find that Alicia is right, and they are idiots.
Though it was nice to inform everyone at Harry’s Birthday dinner that Harry is a little over 3 months along. The congratulations were great, though noticing Fred and Gorge collecting bets was less so. Particularly when he found out one of the bets was for how long it will take them to figure it out, he did not appreciate his own father collecting on them being told.
