Rain, Tea and Hugs
The dark clouds above, the gloomy skies and the rain pouring below. Though some would like days like this as it gave them a sense of peace, focus and pulling out their creativity. Whilst Amy enjoyed some rainy days, this time was different. After a recent Eggman scheme foiled, something weighed on her mind, heavily so.
"You'll always be the strong one, hot-headed and too emotional for more serious quests."
She was used to comments in similar taste. But those specific strings of words just hit to close to her insecurities. Ones she tried to ignore and bury deep inside. Even seeing Sonic beat him up in her defense didn't bring a lasting smile like usual. Instead, she felt herself so withdrawn, going through the motions and finally just an empty husk of herself. Walking and sitting at the edge of her front porch, where she felt drenched in the rain.
Sonic noticed a change when she didn't get her usual celebratory drink or when the high five felt lackluster. After a while, he went to check on her. Whilst disliking things like large bodies of water, he could tolerate rain and showers alike. Hydroplaning towards her home slowed down to a regular pace walking up to her front door and knocking.
"Over here"
Though faint, he could hear her voice coming from outside. Walking around on the front porch, eyes widened slightly upon seeing her covered in rain water, laying on the ground.
"Amy?" Rushing to her side, placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Oh...hi, Sonic."
"Care to explain why you're laying out her soaking in the rain like a sponge? Come here" gently lifting her up, grew more concerned at her much colder to the touch skin. "Let's get you inside."
"I could heat up some Chilli dogs if you want."
"Ames thats not-" he sighed, trying to remain calm at her irregular behavior. Giving a small smile instead.
"Sure, let's get you cleaned up and dry first."
An hour passed as she went to go clean up and change. He decided to take a page from her book and make hot tea with honey. Which wasn't so hard when it came to warming up the water and using tea bags.
"Here, it's cold outside." Turning to see her wrapped up in a blanket, holding out one for himself. Again, he simply smiled, draping it over his arm before picking up the mugs and gesturing over towards the couch.
"You knew you liked rainy days. Just never to this extent." He lightly teased.
"Yeah....I'm sorry for worrying you about that. Though I will say it's kinda...therapeutic."
"Yeah? Well, another time on that. Was there a specific reason you decided to rain bathe?" Sonic took a sip just as he noticed her thumb brushing along the rim of her mug. Eyes glazed over with tears.
"Look, you don't have too say anything-"
"I just...my insecurities got pushed too far in the forethought of my head. All my past mistakes....it's dumb I know I just....Gaia, stupid Eggman."
"I should've figured what he said got to you." Frowning at the thought and wishing he fought just a bit harder to prove his point of not messing with his friends....and friend he grew to care for in a very different, positive, heartfelt way.
"I normally don't get like this....but he pointed out three things that I just... I don't like to think about." Setting down her mug, wrapping her blanket tighter against her chest.
"You are strong" Amy's ears peaked at what he said and turned her head slightly in his direction.
"But you also have a graceful way of doing things. Very precise and erm...what's that word Tails uses? Oh yeah!" He snapped his fingers in remembrance.
"Poise!" That alone elicited a bit of laughter from her but it was fleeting.
"You're not hot-headed, but you are passionate. You're full of emotions, but you are a huge reason for being the heart of this team. You reach peoples hearts in ways I can't do." He smirked with a winked as she felt herself blush and glance away.
"Thank you....though it's hard for me to believe that right now."
"I'm assuming it'll take time. But meanwhile," he opened up his arms for her.
"If you need a hug, I'm here to help." Amy blinked slowly smiling and then feeling her tears fall as a mixture of laughter and soft sobs came out. Slowly leaning into his embrace. Which lead to her laying on top of him as he caressed her back soothingly. Letting her feel what she needed to feel in a safe space.
Soon her soft sobs turned right silence as she fell asleep. He smirked, ready to watch over her all night. Whilst also planning on his revenge for what Eggman made Amy feel. But for now,he enjoyed the moment for what it us. Gingerly kissing the top of her head.
"You're amazing Amy, it's one of the many reasons I fell in love with you. I won't let anyone dare try to take that away from you."
