Chapter 10. The Incident
The streets of Rio De Janeiro
"Oh, Sev, could you give me 20 bucks to buy those heels?"Severa turned to look at the shoes Edith was pointing at and raised an eyebrow. "You sure? Looks like you'll break your neck in those."
Edith rolled her eyes and picked up the shoes before holding them out for Severa to see up close. "But they're so freaking cute!"
Severa sighed and handed her the money. Glancing at the clock on the store wall, she only had 20 minutes before she had to meet up with Dom. First, she needed to get rid of Edith.
Her eyes landed on a group of men across the street laughing and talking. Bingo. With a glance at Edith, she left the store and walked over to the men. "Com licença," she said.
The men stopped talking and stared at her. "Would one of you mind hitting on my friend over there?" She pointed at Edith in the store, still looking at shoes. "She's a widow and needs male company."
It was a lie; Edith had never been married a day in her life, but a little white lie never hurt anybody. The men exchanged curious glances, their interest piqued. One of them, a tall guy with a flirtatious grin, stepped forward. "Sure thing," he said, straightening his jacket. "Happy to help out."
Severa smiled, grateful for his willingness. "Thank you. Just keep her occupied for a while."He nodded and sauntered across the street towards the store, while Severa slipped away, blending into the crowd. She checked her watch—only fifteen minutes left before her meeting with Dom. She quickened her pace, navigating through the bustling streets with ease.
Finally, she saw his car parked on the side of a busy street. Walking over, she smoothed out her hair before knocking on the window. Dom rolled it down, a smile appearing on his face as soon as he saw her.
"Hey, Sev," he greeted, his voice warm amidst the bustling noise of the street.
"Hey, Dom," she replied, returning his smile. He unlocked the door, and Severa quickly slid into the passenger seat, feeling a mix of relief and nervousness.
As soon as she closed the door, Dom placed his hand over hers, giving her a small squeeze before letting go. "You ready?" he asked, his eyes scanning the street. She took a quick look at the street before turning back to Dom. "So, what's the plan?"
He gave her a brief, sidelong glance before focusing on her. "Reyes is moving all his money today. We're going to find out where."
She nodded, her gaze drifting down his arm to his hand on the steering wheel. Dom had changed a lot since she last saw him. Of course, he was twelve back then, but still. She was brought out of her thoughts by a voice coming through A speaker on his dashboard.
"Number one's on the move, man."
She jumped slightly before looking at Dom who was staring at the street as more voices came through.
"Two's on the move."
"I got mine."
"I got eyes on five."
She followed his gaze to a car passing in by them with Brian in the driver seat just as the car in front of them moved. Dom put the car in gear and started following it Just as Tej's voice came through the speaker. "I Know y'all said they were consolidating the money somewhere but...y'all ain't gonna believe this."
Dom slowed down the car and turned down a different road, now following Brian. Soon enough, they arrived at a parking garage The area was surprisingly quiet, with only a few people milling about. Dom parked the car a few spaces behind Brian's, keeping a low profile.
"Alright, we're here," Dom said, cutting the engine. He looked over at Severa. "Let's see what Tej has for us."
Severa nodded, her nerves tingling with anticipation as they got out of the car and followed Brian over to where the rest of the team was waiting. Tej motioned them to the edge before pointing to the building across the street.
"If he's moving it to a police department, he's got some serious brass in his pockets," Roman remarked.
Severa couldn't agree more. If you wanted to show you ran a city, what better way than to move all your money to a police department?
"Hell no, we can't do this," Tego muttered.
"Can't? You mean shouldn't," Han corrected.
Severa saw Dom's arm tense slightly before he spoke. "I think this doesn't change a thing."
It would have been amusing the way everybody's faces became shocked at Dom's words if it weren't for the fact she was shocked too.
"I say we stick to the plan," Dom continued.
Severa turned to stare at Dom like he was a crazy man. "Dom—"
She was quickly cut off by a wide-eyed Roman. "What? This just went from Mission: Impossible to Mission: In-freaking'-sanity!" He turned around, waving his arms around like crazy. "I ain't Scared. I'm just lettiin' y'all know, goin' in that building is crazy."
Severa looked at Dom in the eyes before shaking her head and walking away with the rest of the team. Dom reached out and grabbed her arm, only for her to yank it away.
"Sev, wait," he called after her, but she kept walking, her heart pounding with a mix of anger and adrenaline.
Brian noticed the tension and fell into step beside her. "You okay?"
She nodded, though her jaw was clenched. "I'm fine."

Rio De Janeiro, Abandon Wearhouse
Severa lay on a bunch of crates, trying her hardest not to march over to Dom and strangle him. What is he thinking?! He wanted to march into a fucking police department and steal money from the guy who fucking rules Rio. And if she couldn't stop him, she would have to follow him to make sure he didn't get hurt or worse, die.
The warehouse was quiet now, the team dispersed to various corners to do their own thing. The adrenaline from earlier had faded, leaving Severa alone with her thoughts. She stared up at the ceiling, her mind racing.
A shadow fell over her, and she looked up to see Mia standing there, holding a blueprint. "The beauty of public offices?" she said, walking over to the table and spreading out the blueprint of the police department. "Public records."
Brian joined them, pointing to a spot on the print. "This is where he's keeping the money. The vault is in the evidence room."
Severa pushed herself off the crates and approached the table, her eyes scanning the blueprint when Tej spoke up. "Hold on, can I get everybody's attention right here for a second?" Everyone turned to look at him, some confused while most amused.
"We're talkin' about breaking into a police station. Is anyone listening to those words?" She felt Dom come up behind her. Glancing up, she saw the smirk on his face as he listened to Tej's rant.
"Anybody? Po-po? Five-O, One time, Pigs, people we don't like!" She vaguely heard Mia snort at Tej's exasperated expression before Han piped up.
"You know, police stations are designed to keep people in, not out."
Brian nodded. "That's why it's a stealth mission. We need to be in and out before they even know we're there."
Severa crossed her arms, considering Brian's words when Dom shifted behind her. "Well, we'll need to get eyes in there. At least to find out the make and model of the vault." Everybody nodded but, of course, Roman had to give his two cents.
"So the vault, and then, so—it's crazy." He propped his head against his hand while waving his finger around. "Who's supposed to, uh, do all this?" Dom and Brian shared a glance before looking back at Roman with a knowing look.
"What—what do you mean?" he looked around wildly, his eyes getting wide. "Why me?" Brian crossed his arms and raised a brow.
"'Cause you got the biggest mouth." Severa shook her head as they all chuckled at Roman, but she didn't think he should do it. "No, I'll do it." Everyone froze and stared at her wide-eyed while Roman nodded, relieved.
"No."
"No? Dom, I can do it," she said, uncrossing her arms as Dom crossed his and took a step closer.
"I don't care. No."
Severa took a deep breath, meeting Dom's intense gaze. "Dom, I'm the best choice for this. I can handle it. You know that."
Dom's jaw tightened, but he didn't respond immediately. Instead, he glanced at the rest of the team, who were all watching the exchange intently. He turned back towards her, still standing his ground. "I'm sticking with what I said. No."
Severa felt her blood boil. If there was one thing she hated more than a dumb Gryffindor, it was being told no. She took a step forward, jabbing her finger into his chest. "I don't care what you say, I'm doing it."
Dom's eyes flashed with anger, and for a moment, the tension between them was palpable. The rest of the team held their breath, watching the confrontation unfold.
"Sev," Dom began, his voice low and dangerous, "this isn't just about you. It's about the team. We can't afford any risks."
"And I'm telling you, I'm the best shot you've got," she shot back, refusing to back down. "You know it, and I know it."
Brian stepped in, trying to defuse the situation. "Hey, hey, let's not turn on each other. We need to stay focused."
Dom and Severa continued to glare at each other for a moment longer before Dom finally sighed and backed off, though his eyes still burned with intensity. "Fine. But you better not screw this up."
She scoffed, her anger not fading. "You don't know me, Dom. I don't screw up."
Dom's face darkened at her words. "Excuse me?" he snapped, his voice rising. "I don't know you? I've been putting my life on the line for this team, for you, and you're telling me I don't know you?"
Severa clenched her fists, trying to keep her composure. "What do you want me to say? You. Don't. Fucking. Know me. You may know a bit about 12-year-old me, but you don't know shit about me now."
The tension between them was palpable, each word fueling the fire of their argument. Dom's eyes blazed with a mixture of hurt and anger. "Is that what you think? That I don't care enough to know who you've become?"
Severa took a step back, her heart pounding. "It's not about caring, Dom. It's the fact you still see me as that 12-year-old girl, but that's not me. I'm a grown-ass woman you know nothing about."
Dom's face tightened, his frustration evident. "Then show me. Prove to me that you're not just all talk." His eyes bore into hers, filled with a mix of anger and challenge. "But you know what, Severa? Maybe you're right. Maybe I don't know you. Maybe you're still just that scared little girl who's in way over her head."
Severa's breath caught in her throat, a surge of emotion crashing over her. The anger, the hurt, and the frustration all collided, building up like a storm inside her. She felt a spark, a familiar yet uncontrollable sensation.
Before she could even process it, the air around her crackled, and a sudden burst of energy erupted from her. The lights flickered wildly, the blueprint papers scattered, and the table shook violently.
Everyone jumped back, eyes wide in shock. Dom staggered, staring at her in stunned silence.
Severa's chest heaved as she struggled to contain the surge of magic. Her eyes locked onto Dom's, the intensity of her emotions still burning fiercely. "You want proof?" she snarled, her voice trembling with a mix of anger and fear. "There it is."
The room fell into an uneasy silence, the aftermath of her accidental display of magic hanging heavily in the air. Everyone was staring at her, their expressions ranging from fear to astonishment. Dom took a step back, his eyes still locked on hers, the anger replaced by a mix of confusion and fear. "Sev... what the hell was that?"
Severa swallowed hard, her heart pounding. "That's what the hell you don't know about me, Dom." She turned and grabbed her bag before apparating away.
