The first day
The first night in the Gryffindor common room was filled with excitement and chatter. The first-years were buzzing with energy as they settled into their new surroundings. Hermione found herself in the midst of a lively conversation with Harry, Ron, and Neville. Ron again told them that his brothers told him Slytherin is the worse house to be in.
Harry nodded. "Yeah, I’ve heard a lot of bad things about Slytherin too. Full of dark wizards and all that. But Draco Malfoy is in Slytherin, and he seems really proud of it."
Hermione, still feeling bad about the conflicts between the houses and the bad talking of Draco. "I think every house has its good and bad sides. It’s all about what you make of it."
"What about Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff?" Harry asked. "They seem nice too."
Hermione nodded enthusiastically. "Ravenclaw is known for valuing intelligence and wisdom. I think I would have fit in well there too. Hufflepuff values hard work, patience, and loyalty. They’re really kind and inclusive."
Ron grinned. "Yeah, but Gryffindor is all about bravery. That’s pretty cool."
They all agreed, feeling a sense of pride in their house. As the conversation shifted, they began discussing which subjects will be the best and about the teachers and their reputation.
Harry said: "I want to learn everything I can about potion-making."
Hermione nodded. "Potions sounds fascinating, but I’m really excited about Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall. It’s such a complex and beautiful branch of magic." Ron made a face. "I just hope I don’t turn my pet rat into something strange by accident."
They all laughed, and Neville added, "I’m a bit nervous about flying lessons. I’ve never been on a broomstick before." "Don’t worry, Neville," Hermione said reassuringly. "We’ll all be learning together. And besides, everyone says Madam Hooch is a great teacher."
"Do you think we’ll get to explore the castle?" Harry asked, his eyes shining with excitement.
Ron grinned. "Definitely. Fred and George told me about all sorts of secret passages and hidden rooms. We just have to be careful not to get caught."
Hermione smiled, feeling a warm sense of belonging. Despite the challenges and uncertainties, she knew she had found a group of friends who would support each other through thick and thin.
Eventually, the time came for them to head to bed. The girls were led to their dormitory by a Gryffindor prefect, while the boys went in a different direction. Hermione entered the cozy, circular room with four-poster beds draped in red and gold hangings. She found her trunk already placed at the foot of her bed and began to unpack her belongings.
As she laid out her school supplies and arranged her books, she couldn’t help but think about the day’s events. The run in with Draco before the Sorting Ceremony still played in her mind. She had seen a different side of him in Flourish and Blotts, but his arrogance and prejudice were hard to ignore.
Hermione sighed as she sat on her bed, pulling out a book to read before sleep. She knew that navigating her friendship with Draco would be challenging, especially with the animosity between their houses. But she was determined to find a way to make it work.
The next morning, Hermione woke early, eager to start her first day of classes. She quickly dressed in her school robes and joined the other Gryffindors in the common room. They made their way to the Great Hall for breakfast, where the long tables were laden with a variety of delicious foods.
As they ate, they received their timetables for the day. Hermione scanned hers with excitement, noting that they had Potions with the Slytherins first thing in the morning. Her heart skipped a beat at the thought of seeing Draco again.
The Gryffindors and Slytherins filed into the Potions classroom, where Professor Snape awaited them with a stern expression. Hermione took a seat next to Harry and Ron, her eyes briefly meeting Draco’s across the room. He gave her a small nod, which she returned with a tentative smile.
Professor Snape began the lesson, his sharp voice commanding the attention of the entire room. Hermione quickly immersed herself in the intricacies of potion-making, eager to prove herself. She couldn’t help but notice, however, the subtle tension between the Gryffindors and Slytherins.
As the lesson progressed, Draco and Harry exchanged a few heated words, their rivalry already beginning to take shape. After Potions, the Gryffindors had Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall. Hermione’s spirits lifted as she marveled at the complexity and beauty of the magic they were learning. She threw herself into her studies with determination, hoping to excel in every subject.
Throughout the day, Hermione found herself torn between her loyalty to her new friends and her desire to maintain her friendship with Draco. She knew that navigating these relationships would be challenging, but what can she do about it she likes all of them.
As the sun set on their first day at Hogwarts, Hermione returned to the Gryffindor common room, feeling both exhausted and exhilarated. She settled into one of the cozy armchairs by the fire, reflecting on the day’s events.
She knew that her time at Hogwarts would be filled with challenges and adventures, but she was ready to face them head-on. And as she glanced at Harry, Ron, and Neville, laughing and sharing stories, she felt a sense of belonging and hope for the future.
With a heart full of determination, Hermione knew she was ready to embrace whatever adventures lay ahead at Hogwarts.
