Chapter 1
“Miss granger why are you not in class”
I turned around quickly, looking behind to reveal a shadowy figure, I clutched my necklace tightly. The figure emerged from the shadows. “Professor flitwick, sorry um i didn't check the time and accidentally fell asleep in the common room.” He glanced up at the raggedy state of my hair, I hadn't had time to brush it. I instinctively let go of my necklace and raised my hand to smooth it down. “Alright, Miss Granger, get to class then, I'm sure Professor McGonagall won't be happy if I keep you any longer.” I thanked him and continued to speed walk to the great wooden oak doors, keep it together mione i thought to myself as i knocked hard on the door.
The door swung open revealing old professor McGonagall, shocked at me being the late one for once. I blushed, embarrassed at being late for the first day back, I awkwardly stepped inside, unsure where to sit. There was an empty seat next to Ron, I started to walk towards the seat stopped by professor mcgonagall's loud voice. “Miss Granger, since you decided to grace us with your presence, you will notice everyone is not sitting in the same spaces as they were before. You will sit next to Mr malfoy.”
I stood still frozen in shock praying that there was another kid in the room called Malfoy but of course there wasn’t. I silently cursed myself as I forced myself one step in front of the other to the back where the slytherin’s lurked. He sat there smirking, his blond short hair matching perfectly with his icy grey eyes. I placed my books on the table and sat down in my seat wanting everyone's piercing eyes to return back to the front instead of me
Professor Mcgonagoll cleared her voice loudly returning the attention back to herself, she talked about the war, the battle against lord voldemort and harry. The war that had killed many of our classmates that used to be sitting in our very seats. They had forced us to come back to Hogwarts and redo our 7th year of school before allowing us to leave. Nobody wanted to, but of course we had to do the exams to get jobs in the future, even the students who had fought against us were allowed back with full pardon as they were only fighting because of their parents and deserved another chance. Even when Draco Malfoy came back, what he did was inexcusable to us who had to fight for our lives against him which explained why the seat next to him was empty.
I hated him, no not hate, loathed him. He and the other slytherins sitting near us should be punished with matching cells in azkaban. Nevertheless, they all sat here silent soaking and writing everything of interest. Maybe they were affected by the war as much as we were. I ignored him the entire lesson, not daring to look into those thunderous gray eyes of his, the same face that had called me a filthy mudblood not too long ago. I could feel him looking at me, scanning me and my messy attire, the heat of his stare becoming so intense that I had to ask to use the bathroom, to get away from him.
When I got back he wasn’t looking at me anymore, instead he was talking with a black haired girl who I instantly recognised as pansy parkinson. Their hushed whispers died down as I took my seat receiving a dirty look from her. I ignored her and continued to do my work. Harry looked at me concerned, I gave him a soft smile which he took as confirmation that I'm good and looked back at the now levitating ferret which professor Mcgonagall was making fly with her wand.
I covered my mouth as I failed to stifle my laughter, memories of younger Malfoy being turned into a ferret by Barty Crouch junior flash through my mind and a soft giggle leaves my mouth. I look to my side discreetly and see a scowl has replaced his crooked smirk, he is now directly looking at me, I gulp and turn away praying that he didn’t hear me laugh.
I continue to pretend to be copying mcgonagall, I gasp as he leans in closer to me, to whisper into my ear. “Granger.” his voice sounded much more deeper and rough than it did before. “It’s good to hear your laugh again.” I couldn't move his voice, grasping any muscle I thought I had control over. He smirked once more at me before walking out of the classroom, the rest of the Slytherin’s following pursuit leaving me just as flushed as I was when I entered.
The bell rang out and I grabbed the books I had thrown across our shared table.Harry and Ron were waiting for me in the hallway. I gave Harry a hug, and Ron an awkward handshake-fistbump kind of thing. He had been odd and awkward since we broke up after the war ended, now all he did was slump around Harry and me acting overprotective if I tried to date anyone, scaring them off before I could even ask their name. Harry says he’s not over me yet and that i should give him another chance but one thing that i'm sure of is that i have absolutely no more feelings for Ronald weasley.
.
I look over his shoulder to the gang of slytherin students in the corner having their own hushed conversations. Ron follows my eyes to the slytherin students before making a disgusted sound. “I can't believe they let those killers back into the school, with wands. What if they go rogue and follow their master's footsteps?” If they heard him or not they continued to ignore us, deciding that we weren’t important enough to acknowledge.
“Oh look here comes their leader now,” Ron snarled as Malfoy came to join the group, Pansy came out of the crowd and grabbed him by the arm before pulling him down the hall. He glanced towards us and locked his eyes interlocking with mine, heat pulsing through my veins. She pulls him and he breaks eye contact allowing himself to be led, the loss of eye contact felt like being doused in ice water.
“What a prick,” Ron muttered as we all made our way to hagrid's hut for our next lesson
