The Triwizard tournament. The most exciting event of the year. And Harry was excited. But not because of the tournament, he didn't believe in life threatening school activities, but because it was a collaboration between other schools. Notably Beauxbatons, school of his dearly missed boyfriend. He was in his sixth year and although he could participate he had no intention to. Voldemort being after him every year had sworn him off intentional danger. He hated it, not knowing if he'd survive to see the love of his life again. Even with Voldemort still out there, he would do nothing to increase that chance of death. His leg bounced excitedly and he kept glancing towards the doors, waiting for the schools to arrive.
“I see your excited Harry, don't worry he is too,” Luna said knowingly from beside him.
Luna was his best friend, even though she was in the year below. Being placed in Ravenclaw came as a shock to everyone but himself. The boy who lived not a Gryffindor? How could it be? Harry hadn't even heard of the Hogwarts houses until the Hogwarts express and they had already predetermined where he should go. He didn't really mind though. He had spent his entire life being hated by his family, he could handle his schoolmates’ ire. And so the first year went by in a mix of terror, bullying and almost being murdered by the back of his professor's head. All in all an awful year. He was so thankful for Sev or Professor Snape. The potions professor would look out for him, check up on him daily and make him feel like he mattered. Sev was his boyfriend's godfather and so they had met before, he was also aware of his home life and so checked in on his eating and healing habits. The professor was his rock whilst he was trapped at Hogwarts. He knew Sev was overjoyed when he introduced Luna in second year. Even if the professor didn't really show his emotions, Harry could see the way his shoulders slumped slightly in relief and how his eyes twinkled with pride. The strange girl had joined Ravenclaw and immediately sat next to him.
“Hello Harry, I'm Luna Lovegood. I know we're going to be great friends. The three of us will make a great team,” she smiled at him and he couldn't help but smile back. He had made a friend.
“Wait, three?” He realised, confused. There wasn't another person with her.
“Yes silly, you and I and Draco of course,” Harry blinked.
“You know Draco?”
“Well yes, we're cousins. But I had a feeling that he would be a piece of our puzzle,” Harry still didn't really understand, but he'd come to realise the wizarding world had many strange beings. Many did not want to be his friend, so if Luna did he wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
“Right… Well it's good to meet you Luna,” and so their years of friendship began.
She was like his little sister. They would squabble and banter and gossip. Harry couldn't have asked for a better person to have approached him that day. He looked into her sparkling eyes, full of truth and sighed.
“I haven't even seen him since Christmas, he couldn't even visit me for new year,” Harry pouted and Luna giggled, patting the shoulder of her surrogate brother. “I've missed him, I'm glad he'll be here,” he whispered.
“What's this I hear, Potty’s waiting for someone,” the voice made him flinch and Luna glared at the figure looming behind him. He knew who it was, probably audacious red hair and a posse including a bushy haired know it all. “Don't tell me it's the boyfriend, oh that's priceless. The little fake boyfriend for the gay boy. We all know he's not real, why not just admit it now,” Harry took a deep breath. He knew no one believed Draco was real and he didn't really care. Draco was real. Luna squeezed his hands. “I don't think your boyfriend would like you holding hands with her would he? Although you'd make a good couple. Loony Lovegood and the freak who lived. Just say you're lying, no one would dare to date someone as weird as you,” Ron grabbed Harry by the back of his cloak and threw him to the floor. He heard a number of gasps from the hall. “Go on, tell the truth. Say he's not real,” Harry struggled but the group surrounded him and there was a bruising grip on his arms.
“But he is, just leave me alone,” Luna rushed over, trying to help him but there were too many people and she couldn't get past. She was flung to the side.
“Then I'll have to teach you a lesson for being a liar,” in the next moment three things happened. Harry felt a fist to his face and a wand to his throat, he heard several teachers give an outraged cry to reprimand Ron and the doors to the hall opened.
“MR WEASLEY, UNHAND MR POTTER THIS INSTANT. PHYSICAL VIOLENCE IS NEVER TOLERATED AND NEITHER IS DRAWING YOUR WAND MISS GRANGER, 50 POINTS FROM GRYFFINDOR,” came the voice of Professor McGonagall. She noticed Dumbledore's unwillingness to intervene and had decided enough was enough. Why was the headmaster ignoring such a blatant crime? When the doors opened, it revealed a group of students wearing a light blue uniform. Everyone stood prim and proper, contrasting the atmosphere of the hall. Once Ron noticed them, he backed off, not wanting to cause a scene. Which Harry thought was useless, he had already made a show. Luna raced over helping him up and they quickly sat down. She ran a hand over his face; the contact stung a bit and she frowned when he hissed slightly. The whole hall directed their attention to the newcomers. When Harry looked up, green eyes found grey and he smiled. The smile faltered when he saw the anger in the other boy's eyes. He directed his gaze to his hands in shame. He hadn't really been truthful with Draco about the bullying.
“Ah, welcome to Hogwarts school Madame Maxine. I do apologise for this issue, I hope Beauxbatons enjoys their stay regardless of the bad start,” Dumbledore rose and welcomed them. The Beauxbatons headmaster was half giant and towered the hall. She had a pinched look as she looked at the headmaster.
“What was ze meaning of zis, are you not in control of ze students? To have physical bullying right before your eyes. Is ze boy okay, has anyone checked on him?” Dumbledore's twinkle lessened slightly.
“Ah, the boy is fine. He's a bit of a trouble maker, always known to get into fights. I'm extremely sorry you had to witness it,” he sent a slight glare towards Harry and he just curled himself slightly. He could hear the whispers around him. Most people had gotten at least one punch in before, Harry didn't like fighting back. The school had deemed him the root of the problem, no matter how many people knew the truth. No one would let a free pass go. He closed his eyes from embarrassment, why did Ron have to choose the moment they came to hit him. He then heard the frantic voice of Madame Maxine.
“Monsieur Malfoy, reviens tout de suite.(Mr Malfoy, come back right away,)” His head snapped up to be met with the direct eyes of a white blonde haired ethereal beauty who was storming towards him. Everyone stood shock still.
Draco Malfoy.
The boy was poised, elegant and beautiful but no one could ignore the dangerous edge he had to him. The Malfoy family had moved to France after the last war with Voldemort. Lucius and Narcissa didn't want to raise their son somewhere they would judge him for his family name. Lucius had been under the Imperius curse during the war against Voldemort and regretted his actions dearly. He wished to be away from the guilt and grief. He wanted a new start for his family.
Draco Malfoy was known for his status in society and eccentric nature. He holds an heirship to the Malfoy name and holds a seat in the Wizengamot. He was the youngest wizard to earn a seat. He had also worked in modelling, his looks spread across the world. Anyone who approached him however, he would turn away with nonchalance. He seemed to give no care to romance. There were stories of a girl who slipped him a love potion. She wanted so dearly to date him and yet the potion didn't work and he caught her. No one ever saw that girl again. He is said to disappear during the school year and not return for a few days. His dorm mates say he sometimes returns from the shopping district with gifts not seemingly suited for his tastes. He has special floo access and can spend hours on end speaking through the fire calls. No one knows who receives the gifts or who he fire calls. Perhaps his parents, perhaps a secret lover. Those who ask are sternly told to leave the subject. If they continue to push they may never speak again. Those who gossip tend to meet a cruel fate. He earned the reputation of being heartless and evil. To cross him may lead you to something worse than death. He has never been known to approach someone, anyone who crosses him does so of their own volition. So when the gorgeous blonde haired man walked in Harry's direction, no one could explain why but all assumed somehow the boy who lived had angered the Malfoy heir.
Harry felt the tug on his mind and with a deep breath, he let Draco enter.
“You better have a good reason why I just watched some red haired atrocity punch you,” His gaze was icy. Harry scratched his neck.
“Like Dumbledore said, I love making trouble,” Harry tried to joke his way out of it but he knew it would never work. Draco knew him too well. His boyfriend knelt beside him and took his hands.
“Harry, this is no joke. If you don't explain to me what happened right now I will kill him, no explanation needed,” Harry knew he wasn't lying and quickly shook his head.
“Look, he just doesn't like me ok. And he didn't believe me when I said I had a boyfriend. When I refused to say I was lying he got upset and punched me. Please don't do anything rash right now. You just got here and I would hate for you to be detained before we could spend time together,” Harry pleaded.
“Ok one, I still don't think you're telling me everything, two how dare he accuse you of lying and three I promise not to do anything. I would hate to get myself in trouble before you could properly welcome me,” Draco smirked and Harry blushed.
“As long as you promise to stay calm I'll tell you everything later, after we've had our fun though. I haven't seen you in months, you're going to make sure I can't wal-” their conversation was interrupted by a gentle cough beside them. Luna was looking at them smugly.
“As sweet as this reunion is, everyone is looking at you two so perhaps you should eye fuck somewhere else, especially because your not speaking people are a bit confused,” Luna whispered to them with a smile. Draco rolled his eyes whilst Harry blushed vigorously. When they looked up all eyes were on them, most mouths wide open.
“Oh well, let's mess with them a bit. Especially that red haired prick. Come here,” Draco lifted Harry from his seat who let out a shocked yelp before scrambling to get his legs around Draco's waist. Luna started giggling as Harry hit Draco’s shoulder.
“What's wrong with you?! You're a git,” he glowered at Draco but with no malice and put his arms around his neck.
“Just kiss me princess,” Harry still glared before dipping his head and meeting with the mouth he had missed so much. There was a collection of gasps but they didn't care. All that mattered was their embrace. They broke away before it became too heated. Harry had a slightly flushed face but still managed to pout.
“Now put me back down!” And Draco did.
“You guys are so cute, but you should probably get back to your school now Draco. The other schools will be arriving soon and you're causing a scene.” Draco huffed, but gave one last kiss to Harry's swollen cheek, which magically healed causing another outburst of gasps, and returned to Madame Maxine.
“Excuses madame, je surveillais justement mon petit ami. Je suis sûr qu'il n'y a aucun problème avec ça. (Apologies madame, I was just checking on my boyfriend. I'm sure there are no issues with that.)” Madame Maxine looked frightful for a moment.
“Ce n'est pas un problème monsieur Malfoy, rejoignez-nous simplement rapidement. (It is no problem Mr Malfoy, just join back quickly.)” Draco bowed slightly before joining the group of shocked Beauxbatons students, retaking his look of cold nonchalance. The hall sat in silence for a moment, unsure of what to make of what just happened. Dumbledore was the first to regain his composure.
“Young Mr Malfoy, I wasn't aware that you knew Mr Potter here,” the glint in his eye was bleeding into his speech and caused Harry to roll his eyes.
“That's right Headmaster Dumbledore, Were quite close,” he said sarcastically as if they hadn't just kissed Infront of the entire hall.
“Yes, I see that. Unfortunately Mr Potter I shall be taking 10 points from Ravenclaw for the PDA. It is against school policy. Now, Madame Maxine you may take your students to the table set up there. Please enjoy the meal,” and with that the school adorned in blue all sat down. Still the hall was silent for a moment. The only sound was the hushed whispers of the teachers. Luna looked at Harry in amusement.
“I think you broke the school,” she whispered trying to hold back laughter. He smiled.
“It's not my fault he's extravagant. Plus I had to make sure he wouldn't kill Ron. I don't want my boyfriend in Azkaban before we're married. I have to get some form of benefits from him,” they both giggle softly.
“Is that all I'm good for, my money. Princess you wound me,” Harry jumped slightly with a cry of alarm. The silent hall turned to look at him and he turned red with embarrassment and glared at Draco. He had obviously forgotten to close their mental link but had there really been any need to scare him like that. He noticed Luna giving Draco thumbs up whilst giggling from behind him.
“Traitor,” he punched her playfully.
“But it's fun watching you get flustered like this. Plus arnt little sisters supposed to work with the boyfriends to cause total humiliation of the older brother.” Harry narrowed his eyes at her.
“I want you to know I keep a photo album of all your worst photos that I'm planning to bring to your wedding,”
“Oh no, I'm so scared,” Luna smirked.
“It includes the infamous Christmas beach incident,” Luna glared at him.
“You wouldn't, I burnt all evidence of that event,”
“Ah, sweet Luna. I'm the boy who lived, impossible isn't in my vocabulary. And that's only the start,” Harry laughed maniacally and Luna started to shake him for the whereabouts of the album.
“I'll never tell,” he looked victorious.
“You're infuriating,” she exclaimed before pouting.
“You're having so much fun whilst I'm stuck over here, how cruel,” Harry jumped again.
“Merlin, stop doing that would you. You could always come and join us, I'm pretty sure the seating arrangements are only a formality not an obligation,” There was still no sound from the other students. They all just watched the trio communicate with each other.
“So true, why didn't I think of that?”
“Because I'm the brains, your just the pretty face,”
“Darling how cruel you are,” Luna looked behind him and waved. He spun round to stick his tongue out at Draco. The whole hall had no idea how to react. There was a seat unoccupied either side of the ravenclaws due to the schools tendency to either ignore or fight them so Draco easily slid next to Harry. The Ravenclaw the other side stiffened immediately upon realising the tyrannical Draco Malfoy sat beside them.
“Hello Luna, how have you been dear cousin,”
“I'm glad you finally acknowledge my presence dragon, I'm well,” he flicked a pea at her and she burst out giggling, “What, you came over to talk to Harry and completely ignored me, I think the nickname was valid,” he flicked another pea at her.
“Draco where the hell are the peas coming from, we don't even have the food served yet,” Harry exclaimed, quite literally baffled.
“We all have our secrets,” he said before flicking another pea at Harry.
“Your incorrigible,” he sighed defeated. He turned to kiss Draco but froze when he heard the scraping of a chair.
“YOUR BOYFRIEND IS DRACO BLOODY MALFOY!” Ron yelled obviously having finally processed what was happening. Draco glared at the boy who had interrupted them.
“Ah, Red hair... and a hand-me-down robe. You must be a Weasley. I've heard all about you. Worked with your brother's a few times, and they all said the same about you. That your an obnoxious prat who thinks he's better than he is. Now give me one good reason why I should let you off for punching my beloved boyfriend,” the atmosphere became murderous.
“Draco-”
“I know love, I just want him to explain himself to me that's all.” He turned back to Ron. No one dared to interrupt him. “Go on,” Ron gulped and tried to think.
“What the bloody hell is going on? The freak has a murderer boyfriend. If being friends with a psychotic bitch wasn't enough. What is the world is going on?!”
“What did you just say?” Draco's voice was like ice. Oh well, Harry had tried to save his life but Ron just had to open his mouth. He would have to find something to bail him out of Azkaban with.
“Do you think they'd let me buy him out of Azkaban?” He whispered to Luna.
“He can probably cover this up, there's no need to waste money,” he sighed.
“Your right,”
“Plus you can just magic everything better, your like Magic Jesus. Everyone hates you even though your meant to save them and your really powerful but a pacifist.”
“And yet I'm dating the devil,” he sighed and shook his head.
“Pretty sure Jesus did that too,” he slapped her arm.
“Babe we've decided you can kill him if you wish, but no traumatising the audience this time,” Harry says to Draco and the entire hall looks at him in shock.
“But how do I teach them a lesson without forcing them to witness a vicious crime,” Draco wines and the shock just grows. THE Draco Malfoy pleading to a weak, pathetic, bullied boy.
“Draco Lucius Malfoy, I said no and that's final. I can retract the allowance of murder of you don't behave,” Harry scolded.
“Fine, fine. I'm sorry my love.” He kissed Harry's cheek.
“WAIT! WHAT?” Ron screeches.
“God that's annoying, so glad I can make sure I never have to hear it again. Would you like to accompany me my darlings,” he turns to Harry and Luna.
“Of course we do, the silence was starting to get on my nerves. Oo but only if I get to have a go, Draco you would not believe the things this boy has done to Harry.” Luna got up gracefully and took one of Draco's outstretched arms. Harry just shook his hair and took the other arm.
“Is no one going to do anything, they just said they're going to KILL me??????” Ron said frantically.
“Oh, don't you know Weasley, Draco Malfoy has the ability to sway the Ministry with his name alone. He has political power and influence not to mention money. His family is also powerful and influential. He could cover up murder in a heartbeat. Luna Lovegood's father runs the papers. Any press has to go through him but it's all done discreetly. Anyone would think we've got free press. And the icing on top, Harry Potter. He holds more magic in his pinky finger than you will ever have but he never uses it fully. A shame really. Not just that he's richer than me and actually has several heirships and holds almost all power in politics. Several of his Godfathers hold seats in the Wizemgamots are all terribly overprotective of him. No one here can speak a word of this to anyone either, just try and see. Ronald Weasley, your a dead man,” the trio smiled at him and in that moment, he knew it was over.
“I-i didn't mean to offend you, Heir Malfoy. It's just that me and Harry get into friendly fights every once in a while and this one went too far. Right Harry,” he glared at the shorter boy.
“Threatening my boyfriend won't help you, come along.” An incomprehensibly force started to pull Ron behind them.
“We shall return before the feast starts. Make sure to give the other schools a warm welcome from us,” and with that the trio strode out of the hall leaving behind pure shock to anyone not already on their side. Severus just smirked and strode out behind them. He would have to make sure they cleaned up after they had finished. He liked his dungeons spotless.
