The Yule Ball

“What are you up to, love?” you felt Draco’s arms wrap around your waist from behind and his lips kissing along your neck, up to your jaw and finally reaching your lips as he turned you around to face him.

You smiled and kissed him back, returning to your scavenger hunt of the Library shelves a moment later.

“Not much, darling. Just searching for a book and then I’m off to bed, I’m exhausted.”

Draco pouted and pulled you closer to him, your back resting on his chest and his arms engulfing you in a hug that blocks out any other movement of your own.

“Does that mean no stargazing and cuddles tonight?” he asked, his pout never leaving and you giggled at his clinginess, laying your head back on his shoulder with a content sigh.

“You know I can’t, Draco. Tomorrow night is the Yule Ball and I need to get ready. And I already promised Pansy that I’ll help her with her hair.” you explained.

“And what do the preparations have to do with our date night, my love?” he resumed his earlier kissing, trying his best to convince you.

“If we go stargazing tonight, I’ll look like a troll tomorrow due to lack of sleep.” it was your turn to pout. You hated cancelling your date, but it was for a good cause.

Draco considered it for a second, but didn’t argue further. He knew how excited you were for the ball and you could always reschedule your date.

“You’d be a really beautiful troll, though.” he pecked your nose with a smile, then waited for you until you found the book you were looking for. This boy never missed an opportunity to walk you back to your dorm room.

The walk back to the Slytherin Common Room was silent, yet it was a comfortable silence between the two of you.

Draco is the love of your life, you’re certain of it. You met for the first time when you were children, at one of the pureblood parties your parents were invited to. They were acquainted with Lucius and Narcissa, of course, but not close friends. While Draco’s parents chose to join Voldemort, yours joined the Order.

When you came to Hogwarts you were sorted into Slytherin, and being a pureblood helped a lot when Draco officially introduced you to his parents as his girlfriend, yet you knew he wouldn’t care if you weren’t. The young Malfoy was a sweet and loving boy, but hidden away by the façade he put in place to please his father. While he came from a pureblooded family, deep down he never cared as much for those old beliefs. He was an open book and an easy to get along with kind of person. You were so proud of him and the man he will one day grow to be.

He is the love of your life and you are his, and nothing will change that, for as long as you both shall live.

When you got to the steps leading to the girls’ dormitory, you faced him again, rising on the tips of your toes to peck his lips. He wrapped his arms around your back before you could retreat though, bringing you into a proper good night kiss, longer and more loving.

“Good night, my darling. I love you.” he whispered against your lips

“I love you too, Draco. Good night” you smiled and headed to your dorm, eager for tomorrow to come faster.

“Have you seen my ribbon? The black one?” Millicent asked, rushing to the bathroom to check for it.

“Has anyone seen my necklace? I can’t go without it, it’s my lucky charm!” another girl whined.

You shook your head with a bemused smile on your face while Pansy laced up your long, beautiful gown. You fixed up her hair earlier, before doing your own and now you had all the time in the world to dress up and talk about anything and everything.

You weren’t exactly best friends with Pansy, but you got along pretty well. You were actually much closer to Hermione Granger and the rest of the Golden Trio, but Pansy was your roommate and it never hurt to have a friend in your own house. Who else would you be gossiping with late at night, or sharing clothes and beauty tips?

“All done” Pansy’s voice brought you back from your daydreaming state.

You thanked her and moved in front of the mirror to adjust the front of your gown and put on the shawl you selected previously.

“You look beautiful! Draco will be left drooling, no doubt” Millicent smirked from the bathroom entrance.

“Well that’s the plan, isn’t it?” you responded with a smirk of your own.

You exited the girls dormitory and descended the steps to the Common Room. You were supposed to meet Draco here and go together to the Great Hall, but he was nowhere in sight.

The fire was crackling away in the fireplace and mermaids could be seen through the windows.

You were so entranced by the creatures that you nearly missed Draco coming down the stairs in a beautiful, almost entirely white tuxedo. He looked dashing, especially with his platinum blonde hair all styled to match. His eyes are wide as he takes you in, awe clear on his face.

“You look ravishing, my love” he says and a blush dusts your cheeks.

“You clean up pretty well yourself, Mr Malfoy” you return the compliment and take his outstretched arm, ready to join the festivities with the rest of the school.

Midnight was approaching rather quickly, yet you had never been more awake, even after a night of dancing.

When the champions finished their first dance and the rest of the pairs were allowed onto the dance floor, Draco led you into an elegant waltz. With your hands on his shoulders and his around your waist, you executed the steps flawlessly, earning the admiration and jealousy of the students around you. You knew they stopped and were watching you carefully, yet you couldn’t bring yourself to care.

You were there with your one true love, having the time of your lives.
