Everything you need to know about my Middle-Earth
Middle-Earth:
The story takes place in Tolkien's famous Middle-Earth. Middle-Earth is a continent of the world Arda. The only other continent that will be mentioned is Kerch. It’s not possible to just travel from one continent of Arda to another; only in extraordinary circumstances (or if your name is Kaz Brekker). This is because Iluvatar (God) won’t allow it. Middle-Earth looks pretty much like what we see in Tolkien’s books and their movie adaptations, with the exception of a few cities I added.
Kerch:
Kerch is another one of Arda’s continents. It’s the home-continent of Kaz, Inej, Jesper and Wylan. With Ketterdam as its largest country, it’s quite a bit more violent than Middle-Earth. It’s very similar to what I think Middle-Earth would look like if it went through an Industrial Revolution.
Kerch knows the same races as Middle-Earth (dwarves, hobbits, wizards, orcs, etc.). However, elves died or left Kerch during the First Age. All that's left are their descendants, who are part Men and part Elf. They're known as Grisha.
Camelot:
Camelot is a city in Middle-Earth, where Men live, or rather, lived. Camelot fell somewhere during the Second Age, and Merlin is the sole survivor, forever grieving what he lost.
Arnor:
Somewhere in the region of Arnor, in Middle-Earth, a city named Barad is doing it’s very best to stay secluded and a secret from the outside world. Not all of its citizens are complying, though.
Other locations in Middle-Earth are canon-compliant and can be found in either Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” or “The Lord of the Rings”, or will be described when we get there.
Main characters:
The ages in the story are the ages they’d be in our world. Hobbit-, dwarf-, elf- and wizard-ages still apply.
Kaz Brekker - He’s part of the race of Men, and 18 years old.
Inej Ghafa - She’s also of the race of Men, and 17 years old.
Jesper Fahey - People assume he’s a Man, and he is, for the most part. Jesper’s 18 years old.
Wylan van Eck - He’s a Man, but has seen a lot of Kerch and lived with many different people. He’s 17 years old.
Merlin - Merlin is a wizard. He is hundreds of years old.
Bilbo Baggins - Bilbo is a hobbit from the Shire, and a very respectable one at that. He’s 50 hobbit-years old, which would make him somewhere in his 30s in our world.
Thorin Oakenshield - Thorin is a dwarf-king from Erebor. He’s 194 dwarf-years old, making him around 40 in our world. (This is not entirely canon-compliant).
Sirius Black - Part of the race of Elves. However, something fishy appears to be going on. 17 years old.
Remus Lupin - Part of the race of Men. We think. 18 years old.
James Potter - Part of the race of Men. Pretty sure about that one. 18 years old.
Lily Evans - Part of the race of Men. :) 19 years old.
Other information:
The story takes place during the Third Age of Middle-Earth. The Third Age is nowhere near the greatest Age Middle-Earth has known; cities have fallen, great kings are dead, magic used to be much greater.
Hobbits come of age at 33, dwarves around their 40th birthday and Men when they're 18. No one's sure how the ages of elves or wizards work, but unless stated otherwise, everyone in this story is an adult.
