Prologue
On the day Orion Arcturus Black was born, another boy was as well. The other boy was Orion’s younger twin brother, Miriam Altair Black. While being raised as a traditional pureblood, Miriam developed his own views. He believed that Muggleborns should be checked once signs of magic are shown and their guardians told what was happening. He believed they should learn the ways of wizards and witches as well. He kept these views to himself, fearful of the reaction his family would have if they found out what he truly thought. At Hogwarts, he was sorted into Slytherin and met a Ravenclaw in his year, Astrid Nott. The two fell in love and married at 19 and had a child soon after. This child's name was Lyra Iris Black.
Lyra was raised differently than other pureblood girls of her age. She learned much more than to just be the perfect wife and mother. Lyra spent many days around her cousins, Sirius and Regulus. She loved the days spent with them where she wasn’t playing alone. Lyra attended Hogwarts like her mother and father and was sorted into Slytherin. There she met a boy named Octavius Selwyn, who was a year above her in school. The two became friends during Lyra’s first year and during her fourth, they started to date. Eventually she married Octavius, and together they had a son, Atlas Octavius Selwyn-Black, who was born 4th June 1980. At the start of 1981, at the height of the war, Voldemort started to threaten the pureblood families to join him, or die. When Octavius was visiting his family in their manor, the ones who defied Voldemort were slaughtered and the ones who bowed to him were left alive. Left alone with just her son, Lyra made the choice to go into hiding, only telling her parents and cousin where she lived. It all came to a head closer to the end of 1981.
Lyra Iris Black was sitting in her home on the night of 31st October 1981, hoping for another night of peace and quiet as her son slept upstairs. Frantic knocks interrupted the quiet. She opened the door to find her cousin, Sirius Black holding Harry Potter. What?
