Note
I'm sorry if this is terrible, it is really late and I had an idea. I wish I could say that english isn't my first language, but it unfortunately is, I'm just an idiot. Also, James is lowkey kinda insane, so beware. He is also based off of me, so don't judge. there is also a point where I gave up a bit, so my bad, i'm tired. (and yes, the title may be based off of Olivia Rodrigo)

Idea

James woke suddenly to the sound of Sirius blasting Bowie into his room, again. It had been consistent ever since Sirius moved in with James and his family, after his parents kicked him out. Most days, James would quietly wait for the inevitable sound of music, because Sirius found it hilarious to wake James up in strange ways, and James never had the heart to tell him that he didn’t actually need anyone to wake him up.

“Hey,” James mumbled, to a very excited looking Sirius, “you looked happy.”

“I have an update on the Remus situation,” Sirius replied, with his lips curled into a smile, like the mere thought of Remus made him shine.

“Oh? What happened?” James questioned. Sirius had been “subtly” obsessing over Remus for at least a year, but he only told James a month ago, but James had figured it out earlier. The obvious glances, stuttering, and mumbling around Remus had told James enough.

“Well,” Sirius prefaced, “I very slyly asked him for his number, and guess what! He gave it to me! I told him it was for a project, and he believed it! I can’t believe it worked!” Sirius exclaimed. Sirius seemed very excited, and James knew the truth; there is no way Remus bought Sirius’s lie. But James also came to the conclusion that Remus felt similarly about Sirius, though Sirius was too busy trying to hide his blushing to notice the way Remus was looking at him.

“That’s nice,” James replied, feeling more alone than ever.

James understands why Sirius spends his time plotting ways to get Remus, but it also involves him spending time without James, and even when he was with James, he was talking about Remus. But it’s fine. Remus makes Sirius happy, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters, right? Sirius doesn’t need to rely on James to be happy, he can meet other people. But to James, it would be like losing the bare necessities to live. The thing is, Sirius is one of James’s only friends, besides Peter, and he can't lose half of his closest friends. But Sirius hasn't left yet, and that’s the worst part, knowing that Sirius is going to slowly talk to James less and less.

“Well, it’s time for breakfast,” Sirius says, breaking James from his trance, “I'm gonna go make waffles,”

James knows he is overthinking. Again. Sirius isn’t leaving, and it seems like that needs to be engraved in James’s brain. Remus isn’t stealing Sirius away, it’s just James’s dumb brain, telling him that if anyone else is in his friends lives, they will never talk to James again. It was a bad habit James had, thinking he needs to be perfect for everyone or they will leave him forever.

While Sirius went downstairs to make breakfast, James threw on a hoodie and sweatpants. He begrudgingly walked down the stairs to the kitchen to find Sirius making frozen Eggo waffles.

“Don’t worry, I saved some for you,” Sirius said, grinning, “we have to be prepared. It’s gameday!!”

James had almost forgotten. It was the first games of the season, and both James and Sirius were starting players.

“I can’t believe Coach has us starting,” James exclaimed.

“I know right! ‘First Juniors starting in a century’” Sirius said theatrically. He was like that a lot, adding extra flair. It was always nice to see Sirius excited about something, and Sirius would go all out.

While James waited for the waffles, he watched Sirius on his phone, smiling. Every time Sirius picked up his phone, his face lit up and his eyes gleamed. The only person that could make Sirius feel this way was Remus.

“Who are you textinggg…” James teased, a mischievous grin making its way onto his face. He knew for sure that he was texting Remus when a deep red crept onto Sirius’s face.

“Oh! Umm, just Remus…”Sirius trailed off, appearing to be deep in thought, “I mean, James, he even likes Bowie! It’s like it was destiny! There’s nothing wrong with him! There’s his eyes, and his hair, and his nose, and his lips, and hi-”

“Sirius, you’re just naming different facial features,” James laughed.

“I know. It’s all perfect.” Sirius says dreamily, staring off into space.

James eats his waffle, and finishes getting ready.

“Sirius, are you going to stop texting Remus and drive, or am I going to drive?” James asked.

“Oh, I can drive,” Sirius replied distantly.

It still felt like Sirius was drifting away, and him having Remus’s number was not helping. Honestly, James was happy for Sirius. Really, he needs to have some romance in his life. In James’s freshman year, he dated Lily for a brief period, and Sirius had always been there. Even though he was happy for Sirius, there was still a part of him that told him to hate Remus for stealing Sirius. And another part of him told him to hate Sirius for distancing himself.

James hopped in the car, and waited for Sirius. Sirius turned on the car and started driving to school. While Sirius was driving, James was looking out the window, searching for ways to prevent Sirius from leaving. Until he found it. Regulus. Regulus is the key. Sirius had always been protective of his younger brother, and if James started getting close to his baby brother, he would need to come back, to prevent James from getting any closer. Oh yes, this is the plan James will be following.
