Faulty lines
The icy cold tone on her voice gave your body chills, skin crawling made you question why she had that effect on you when Stacy finally spoke pulling you out of your thoughts.
“I’ll give you the papers then a moment to read. If you have any questions you can ask me” She took some paper from under her desk and handed it to you. You started reading the five pages which felt like an eternity with Stacy’s eyes fixed on you and from time to time she paced around her office with the heels clicking a few inches behind you. It felt like she had something to say or question which was holding back.
“There’s something wrong?” You asked still reading at the contract
“No” Stacy paused. “Well yes,is there something going with Greg?” She asked raising her eyebrow
“Emmm, something like what?” You said sounding confused
“Something like him and you, something between the two of you”
“What?” You said finally looking at her “No, there’s nothing between us. I have no other intentions” You handed the contract finally signed.
“Fine. That’s all I needed to know. Is there any question? If not you can return to your work” The icy tone that once was now had mellowed into something softer.
“No, thank you” With that you lifted up from the seat and left the lawyer’s office.
A week off sounded like exactly what you needed—a weekend at a spiritual retreat you didn’t even believe in at first. But the tension at work was becoming unbearable. Everyone seemed to think something had happened between you and your boss, when in truth, it had been strictly professional. The constant speculation was driving you insane. So, instead of asking for time off, you requested a rotation week. You’d work under Cameron instead.
Walking to the clinic you passed your boss which was strange, it would be the last place on earth that he would be. You ignored him since you were only there to go to the Dean’s of Medicine office so you could ask for the rotation you were thinking of, increasing your pace to get through without being questioned. Knocking the door, waiting for a response and praying that House doesn’t decide in question the motives of your actions.
Just in time before your boss could reach you, you heard a soft “Come in” behind the doors which you pushed fast to let yourself in. Once entering the room, you were offered the seat in front of the Dean which made the anxiety increase throughout your body.
“Sorry to interrupt I’m guessing a busy day but I need something to ask” You paused while Cuddy looked like she was trying to analyze something but you rationalized that was better to keep talking “I just wanted to ask for a service rotation, I would like to be set in the ER with Doctor Cameron. I am just curious how others departments work, that’s only why I am asking”
“This seems so out of the blue, you are a star pick to House’s team. Did something happen? With your colleagues? Or even House?”
“No, nothing like that. I just wanna see other departments at work”
“Okay” Before the dean of medicine could continue talking, the door swung open and your boss entered the room looking slightly irritated
“Okay? You are going to cave in just like that? I wish it was that easy for me to convince you to do stuff for me”
“House!” The dean said while widening her eyes as she looked at him “I wasn’t finished talking. Besides I was not planning on giving her a free pass without telling her she had to inform you or I would end up doing it myself. She needs your okay in this sort of thing. Also I wasn’t planning on over ruling you, you would be more annoying than you are now. Now, does she have your okay in this?”
“No, she was hired three days ago, in fact today she signed the contract so if she wants out of my department without being here for that much time she can quit for a chance of pace”
“Okay, motion denied. Now go play outside since I have a hospital to run” Cuddy said. House stormed off the room and you followed quietly looking down to the floor. Once you were out of the clinic, House stopped walking which made you bump into him since you weren’t looking up
“Sorry” You said timidly but your boss was furious
“What were you thinking by asking for a switch of services? If you want to be somewhere else, like I said quit” You were getting irritated by him talking down to you, feeling the rage growing, without knowing if you should respond or take a walk before things worsen
“This is your fault” Teeth clenched, jaw tensed and finally you walked out leaving House to draw whatever conclusion he wanted out of this whole thing.
