“Good job nineteen”
“Good job, nineteen?” What did that even mean? Wasn’t he the same man who never cared? You shook your head, realizing you were overanalyzing a simple exchange. Pushing the thought aside, you got up, washed your face, and prepared for the day.
Upon entering the building, you headed to your locker, retrieved your number, and stored your belongings. Then, you made your way to the auditorium—the place where your fate would be decided. Would you survive another day, or would this be the end of your time here?
To your surprise, House was already inside, waiting.
“Hello survivors. Surprisingly almost all of you made it out alive, it would have been everyone if it wasn't for the cutthroat bitch who apparently managed to trick ten people into quitting. Other ten were fired thanks to our lovely Dean of Medicine who you haven't had the pleasure to meet yet, which is strange since she won't quit following me for some reason. She says it is because I'm a liability for the hospital but I think she has a crush on me. But enough talking since today we have another case so let's see who makes it out alive. You know what to do, you'll be handed the file.”
Symptoms reigned from blisters, diarrhea cellulitis and decreased joint mobility. The young adult girl started showing blisters three days ago but did not notice them till the tearing pain started accompanied by itching but she didn't scratch them since she hated having scars on her porcelain skin, that’s what she told you when you were gathering the family´s history. The blood tests were normal, the x-ray didn’t show anything concerning and the family’s history didn’t reveal anything out of the ordinary or striking, so the only thing that was left it’s to wait if the house search revealed anything. Since you had nothing to do, you went to your locker and looked for your book on rare diseases and got to the cafeteria to drink your tea and read to see if you could find any clues about the case. On your way while you were focused reading you almost bumped into Cameron. “Hey, look up or you will run over someone”.
“Well good thing we are in a hospital, then”. You responded with a smile.
“I see you’ve lived to see another day of House’s madness, how’s that going?”.
“Strangely good, unfortunately is hard to tell. If i don’t get fired I would be a happy girl.”
“I think he’s going to like you. I’ve heard you were the one solving his last case. What a wild guess, huh?”
“I just thought like he would think. Now I’m going to the cafeteria since I have to read if I wanna live another day”
“C’mon have lunch with us. Chase and Foreman really would love to meet you and also have an insider to further prank House. They are failing and as fun as it is to watch, I just feel embarrassed since they have yet not succeeded.”
“Okay, I wouldn’t mind.”
After having lunch with them you were forced to get back to your reading since nobody had a clue about what was happening to the patient. Just that is getting worse with nauseas and vomiting.Time passed unaccompanied by the changing or the progression in her condition. Then you got a page asking for your presence in the auditorium since it seems someone had an idea of what could be going on. The fellow who volunteered for Doctors without borders is diagnosing with Leishmaniasis and suggested for it to be treated with Amphorcetin B. Once the treatment was provided, the day was over so you headed home to rest for next the day.
It was 5am when you received an urgent page asking for your presence in the hospital since the patient had declined into kidney failure, fever and chills. You enter the building and run as fast as you can to get your lab coat and assist with patient care.
“What do we have so far?” Says House, rumbling around the room.
“Nothing” Amber says
“Well aren’t you clever cutthroat bitch”
Thirteen interrupted “The only thing we didn’t check were the belongings in the hospital. Maybe they got something”
“Fine search for the personals belongings” House said “Pray it doesn’t attack other organs”
Fellow number two found in the purse of the mother a passport which was recently used over a year ago to go to Brazil for a month. So it was guinea worm disease which the patient went home with a battery of medicine and instructions for her to use.
Extremely exhausted you were heading out for the day when a voice stopped you “What happened today? Not standing out” Your boss said
“Sorry, today wasn’t a clever day I guess”
“Better do something about that or I will say Bye-Bye!”
“Totally noted”
Why were you acting so strange? You didn’t have any interest in him, you even weren’t attracted but still your head couldn’t stop spinning till a call put your head out of your ass.
“Hi, where are you? Mind to have a drink?” Cameron said enthusiastically. “I’ll send you the address in a text. See you in a bit and you better not put an excuse”
It was strange of her inviting you out of nowhere but it seemed nice to be making connections especially to people who you’ve admired secretly. You checked the address, since it was five blocks away you decided to walk while re touching your makeup. The night went smoothly and fun, you had drinks and talked for hours till you noticed the time 4am so it meant you had two hours to sleep.
“I’ll be saying goodbye now cause the clock is ticking and if I’m late I don’t know what would happen”
