First Class
“Just running scared, afraid to lose”
Sunday night Peter noticed the disappearance of Remus Lupin. He looked around their dorm room before his eyes landed on James.
“ Where’s Lupin? He was at dinner, but now it’s curfew and he’s not in the common room or here.” Peter spoke quietly.
James looked around before speaking.” Your right. Maybe he’s out wandering the hallways. He’ll be back.
Peter shrugged and closed his curtain, lying down into bed
The next morning Peter woke to the sound of James and Sirius laughing. He smiled and pulled back his curtain. He immediately noticed Remus’ empty bed.
“Did Lupin come back?” He asked.
James just shook his head. “ Hasn’t been here since yesterday morning.
“Maybe he snuck in and snuck out this morning. He has been avoiding us.” Sirius said with a smirk.
The triplet of boys all got dressed for classes, brushing their hair and teeth in the bathroom. A few moments later the bedroom door opened and Remus Lupin walked in, looking terrible.
“ Where were you?” James asked as soon as he entered the room.
“Nowhere.” Remus said coldly pushing past them to his trunk.
“Are you ok?” Sirius asked, glancing away from the bedroom mirror.
“Piss off.” Remus snapped, grabbing his clothes.
“ We’re just being nice.” Peter spoke, putting his hands on his hips. He thought Remus was being very rude for them all trying to be nice and check on him since he disappeared without a trace.
Remus begun removing his shirt before staring at them. “ What?!” He growled out. “ You all are gonna watch me get dressed” You posh boys are a bunch of poofs.” He went into the bathroom with his clothes in his arms.
“I’m hungry.” Peter cried out, clutching his rumbling stomach.
James sighed and waved towards the door. Soon they were all heading downstairs to breakfast, studying the map to attempt not to get lost. They had made a few wrong turns, Peter groaning every time they had to backtrack. After what seemed like an eternity they made it to the great hall. The tables were already filled with food, students from all the houses sitting at their tables talking and eating. The group of boys sat at the table in a triangle formation, Peter next to James and Sirius across from them. Peter looked down the table a short way and noticed Remus. He nudged James who looked over.
Peter rolled his eyes and began filling his plate as Sirius and James filled their own plates while talking about classes, which ones they thought they would excel in, and which ones they were nervous about.
“ I’m nervous about charms and potions,” Peter spoke quietly. “ I just know I’m going to fail.”
“ Oh, relax, Pete.” James chuckled. “ You’ll do just fine. You just have to study and learn.”
“We will help you, Pettigrew.” Sirius laughed. “ Just stick with us and you’ll be just fine.”
Peter sighed and went back to his food, picking at it. He couldn’t help the feeling of nervousness setting over him. He knew that if he put his mind to it he might be able to succeed in his classes, but he still couldn’t help how he was feeling about it. He wondered how James and Sirius would do in their classes. He knew they would probably excel. James especially.
The class was charms, the one Peter was looking forward to the least. It would be taught by a man by the name of Professor Flitwick. He was a short man, being part goblin. Peter entered the room and sat next to James, using him as moral support. Remus entered the room and sat in the back. Professor Flitwork walked to the front of the room and climbed onto his desk.
“ Welcome first-years,” He began. “ For your first lesson, we will be learning Leviosa, the levitating charm. It is quite simple. You will be learning on these pinecones. Mr. Potter, would you like to come help pass them out?”
“Yes, Professor,” James spoke, standing up and walking to the front of the class and grabbing the box.
Professor Flitwick continued speaking about the levitating charm as James walked around the room placing feathers in front of each student before taking his own seat. Flitwick showed them exactly how to do the charm before setting them out on their own to practice.
Peter attempted many times to make his pinecone levitate. Each time he got more and more anxious that he would be unable to do it. Peter glanced over at James who had already made his levitate. Soon after, Sirius’ feather began lifting. Peter sighed and continued attempting to make his pinecone float. The most he got was a little movement but no floating.
A red-haired girl named Lily Evans made her pinecone levitate three feet into the air. Peter wondered how she had managed to do it when he couldn’t even levitate his.
After class the trio walked out, peter following behind Sirius and James. Peter sighed, making James peak over his shoulder.
“ Don’t worry, Pete. You’ll get it. Professor Flitwick said we would be going over it again next class.” James spoke confidently.
“ Yeah, sure. You made your feather levitate.” Peter murmured.
