Harry stared up at the common room ceiling. The fireplace crackled, filling the silence that hung around him, Ron and Hermione. They were all lying on the carpet floor.
Hermione was cuddling into Harry’s side while Ron had an arm wrapped behind the two, pillowing their heads from the hard ground.
”My parents are dead.” Harry suddenly said monotonously, like he was breaking the news to his best friends.
”We know.” Hermione said softly.
There was a moment of silence, filled with soft breaths and a pop from the fire.
”Cedric is dead.” Harry said, his breath hitching the tiniest bit this time as he breathed in, before he exhaled as steadily as he could. Ron leaned his head against his, his cheek resting in Harry’s wild hair.
”Yeah.” He said quietly.
Harry’s face screwed up, tears filling his eyes as he readied himself to say his next words.
He hasn’t actually said it yet, but he knew he had to. No matter how much it made his chest hurt. He wet his lips.
”S-Sirius is dead.” He whispered, letting out a shaky breath as tears ran down the sides of his face towards his ears.
Hermione and Ron just held him tighter as he quietly sobbed on the common room floor.
They let Harry cry, let him mourn those he’d never had the chance to. They laid there with him the whole time.
