Apology Ritual

Prompt: Card

“I won’t believe that was the last game! It’s not fair! I swear to Merlin that Perce cheated! Back me up on this Penny?” you turned to your friend, Penelope Clearwater in an attempt to convince Percy that their last game of Uno was somehow rigged. You couldn’t afford losing right now, especially when it decided who would have to sneak down into the kitchens after curfew to steal some Firewhiskey. Out of all the people here (being Ron, the twins, Angelina, Katie, Alicia, Harry, Hermione, Penelope, and your boyfriends), you had flaming confidence that you’d be the first to win your way out of the round, given your somewhat astonishing record of no losses in Uno. To your disappointment, Penelope only shrugged and gave you a sheepish smile to which you returned with an angry huff.

Out of the corner of your eye, you can see Percy with a satisfied smirk, only fueling your frustration. With a loud grunt, you tossed your head back, only for you to hit the back of your head into Oliver’s knee with a shriek, who was sitting on a couch behind you. Percy opened his mouth, his smirk turning into full blown laughter of how you lost miserably to him, and just proceeded to injure yourself with your own frustration.
Fred, George, and Ron were just staring at your friend group of four, confused with how you managed to bring out a genuine laugh from their “stuck-up prick” of a brother. With Oliver gently stroking the area that you hit on your head, you turned to Percy with clear intentions of arguing with him.

“Percival Weasley!” You not calling him ‘Perce’ or ‘Cee’ did just enough to put an abrupt stop to his laughing session and turn his head straight to you, so quick that you’re convinced it must’ve given him whiplash.
He immediately put on his ‘all so serious mode’ expression, promptly stating, “What y/n, you’re the one that thinks, to my utter disbelief, that I somehow cheated in a simple game of Uno.”
Now that your anger has settled, you came to realise that you acted way too dramatic for a loss in Uno, but your stupid pride just didn’t want to admit that and continue for another round. Percy, still waiting on an answer from y/n, debated between taunting you further just for the fun or to just shut up and let you be. He decided on the latter, being the smart and logical student he is for not pissing you off further.

When you finally calmed down, you grumbled out a small “Sorry Perce,” before stumbling forward because of Oliver suddenly pushing you towards the curly-haired boy. You turned to look at Oliver and gave him a stern ‘what was that for’ look, but he only raised his eyebrows before pointing towards Percy with his eyes. That was the look he gave whenever one of you needed to apologise to the other in a small argument that was caused because of the competitive nature that the both of you shared.

You unwillingly made your way to Percy and did the usual apology routine. You sat down directly in front of Percy, and called out his name, “Hey, Cee?” Percy replied with a solid nod, not really caring about how you acted for the past few minutes but just put up with it because you needed to do the “apology ritual”.
“I’m sorry I overreacted about the Uno game. I was so confident about not losing, and to be honest, I really just didn’t want to sneak out into the kitchen at this hour,” you spoke in an honest tone. You looked Percy in the eye, and he gave a final nod before engulfing you in a hug. That meant he accepted your apology, so you stood up and shuffled back to your place in the circle of friends. End of ritual.

Oliver peeked into your face from above, with a father-like expression. You stuck out your tongue at him, feeling a bit foolish for making you act like first graders when it came to arguments and apologies.
“Now, it seems that someone has to make a trip to the kitchens, eh?” Fred or George, you couldn’t tell at this point, had said, wiggling their brows. You let out a loud groan, before Percy piped up, “Do you want me to go with you?” Now the twins and Ron weren’t just staring, they were producing all sorts of confused noises. How could their brother, all about rules and obedience, voluntarily go out and break a rule in this ungodly hour?

You let out a small giggle before standing up and taking his hand to accept the offer, “Yes please. You’re the best, Perce.”
