Remus

“You really think this isn’t a bit too much Remus? I mean I understand giving people the knowledge that you will always be watching, but this really?” Regulus asked as we watched a golden mantle be placed above his throne in the center of the wall. It was gold and built to cover my mask and only mine.
“It’s enchanted, that way only my mask will fit, and it’s not too much. We have already discussed this, you even told me it was a grand idea. Why the sudden change in mood?” I grumbled already, sore and tired.
“Right I did, James has been rather on edge this last month, so I’m on edge. Some assassination attempt has been threatened on Harry, we are all a bit thin right now.” He crossed his arms watching, as the boy toddled around in the ballroom.
“That’s horrible Reggie, will you be sending guards out to find out who? You know it’s very hard to hate a baby.” I rested more of my weight onto my cane. I had to stick out the pain and soreness for Sirius if I was going to spend one night dancing with him.
“I have a few ideas, nothing confirmed yet. That’s for a different day Remus, today is how you are going to sweep my brother off his feet and court him. Are you sure you are well enough for this? Seems like it’s going to be a bad one.” He tapped my cane with his hand before he started to walk, his eyes scanning everything.
“It’s now or never Reg, besides Padfoot will understand when I tell him everything. I just want tonight to be perfect for him. The last two days of the ball, in my opinion, are not as important as the first from my experience with balls so he will be too busy both nights to see my absence.” I followed him, the castle staff was busy building it up to be exactly what Sirius wanted.
“He’s very observant, but I’ll make sure to distract him as best as I can all night so that the concept of you being gone won’t blow his heart up too badly. Hope yet for the courtship.” Reggie squeezed my arm before he turned and started to focus on another type of decoration.
“Thank you Regulus, this means the world to me, you know this.” I paused once again resting on my cane as my hip started to give a twinge of pain. At that moment while paused one of the many staff approached and bowed to the king and I.
“Your Highness, my Grace, Sir Sirius has requested his Majesty to follow me to his quarters. He has told me that it should only be the king, that you, my Grace, shouldn’t worry and to continue to check on how the preparations are going and getting ready for the ball yourself.” He spoke once he rose back to his normal height. He looked scared but I couldn’t tell in that exact moment what scared him the most.
“Go tend to your brother Reggie. I think I need to learn to listen to Sirius when given a command, he will be helping me run this castle in due time. His words are as good as mine if I am correct.” I smiled while Regulus straightened his posture and gave the servant a curt nod.
“Right, goodluck winning my brother’s heart tonight. I’ll see you at the ball. Even if you are a bit wolfish.” He winked before he and the servant turned and made a fast exit from the ballroom. I let out a half groan half laugh before I continued the patrol Regulus had started.
