Chapter 2

"Mia?"

Hermione looked up quickly, her teary eyes starring into his. The broken vase was spread out in little pieces on the floor. "I'm sorry. I didn't-It was an accident." She whimpered. Though her voice was stronger now, it still had a raspy sound to it.

"Oh, Cub, it's ok. Shh, don't cry. It was an accident." He whispered, moving closer and scooping her up into his arms. "It's alright." He whispered, pulling his wand out and trying to get her attention. "It's ok. Watch this." He waited until her looked up from his chest, and flicked his wand. The vase repairing itself instantly. "See, it's alright."

”How did you do that?” She asked, her cries dying down.

”Magic, cub. I can do magic, and so can you.” Remus whispered.

”B-But magic isn’t real.” She whispered.

Remus shook his head. “Have you been able to do something you couldn’t explain, Mia? Something strange?”

Her eyes widened at his words, shrinking further into his chest if possible. “They hurt me when it happened.” She whispered.

Remus clenched his jaw. “Cub, they shouldn’t have hurt you like that no matter what. There is nothing wrong with you. Those strange things, use to happen to me. Until I got my letter to Hogwarts, and was able to learn to control it. It’s just your magic reacting to your emotions.” He explained with a soft smile. He cast his patronus, and watched the wispy, blue wolf prance around and nudge at his cub. Hermione giggled in surprise, eyes wide in excitement. “One day you’ll be able to do magic like this.”

“Remmy, am I evil?” She whispered.

Remus hugged her tighter for a moment. “No, Cub. You are not evil. You’re gifted, special, magical, but never evil. Understand?”

Hermione, after a moment of just watching him, nodded her head with a soft smile. It's been a month since Hermione has come to live with him. A month since everything has happened to this young girl. She was a light in his life, he never knew he needed until he got it. He made a promise to keep this girl safe, and happy. In the last month, though she was hesitant, she thrived in his little cottage. She came out of her shell more and more, with each passing day. Her tears stopped flowing as she looked up at him with her big round eyes, and he smiled down at her.

"Come on, Cub, let's get you something to drink."

It was a another month before he heard news on Harry. It came in the most surprising way.

A knock came from the door, Hermione jumped up from the couch and raced to the door. Her instinct to open the door no matter what. She was surprised to see the lady from the police station standing on the other side. Her eyes teared up, knowing what this meant.

"I don't want to leave." She whispered, her head tilting down.

"Oh honey, I'm not here to take you. I promise. Is Remus here?"

Nodding, Hermione moved to stand behind the cottage door. When she closed the door behind them, it was then she noticed the small little boy. He had black, unruly hair, and dark green eyes. She hurried into Remus's room, who was resting for the full moon in a couple of days. "Remmy, the social service lady is here." She said, shaking his shoulder gently. He groaned, turning his head to look at her.

"What?" He asked blurrily.

"The lady from the police station, she's here with a boy."

Remus nodded, moving slowly to stand up. After throwing on his robe, and scooping Hermione into his arms, he headed back towards the living room. The moment he entered the room, the familiar scent hit him. Cub. "Hello." He greeted. "Sorry, I haven't been feeling all that well lately. What can I do for you?"

As Remus and the lady talked, Hermione slowly made her way to little boy. He was small, his shoulders curled inwards, head tilted down. A position she used to make, and still does when startled. "Hi." She whispered to the little boy. "My name is Hermione. What's yours?"

The little boy looked up, as if he were surprised someone had spoken to him. "M-My name is Harry."

Hermione smiled. "Hi, Harry. Are you coming to stay with Remmy and I?"

Harry nodded slowly. It was then that the adults turned towards them.

"Harry, this is Remus Lupin. You'll be staying with him from now on. He knew your parents, they went to school together. He's a very kind man, and has done a wonderful job with Hermione. You have nothing to fear here." The lady said. "It's good to see you Hermione. You're doing well?"

Hermione nodded shyly, but grinned up at her. "Yes, I'm doing better." She said, moving over to wrap her hand around Remus's robe. Remus ran his fingers through her hair comfortingly.

"Hi, Harry. It's so good to see you again." Remus said, moving forward just a little bit to kneel down in front of him. "I'm Remus."

"Hi." He whispered shyly.

"Alright," the lady said, clapping her hands together, "I'll leave you to it. I'm sorry for the short notice, I would have called but I didn't have enough time after he was released from the hospital."

Remus nodded in understanding. "It's alright. I have a spear cot that he can used and bunk with Hermione until I can set up the spare room for him."

With that said, the lady knelt down and whispered one last thing to Harry, before hurrying away. That left the three of them alone. "Alright, lets go get Harry settled in Mia's room. Then I'll order something for delivery."

Remus guided the pair to Hermione's room. Over the last couple months, the room had slowly began to look and feel like Hermione. Little nick-nacks scatters every surface, a bookshelf was stuffed full against a wall. Remus waved his wand and transfigured Hermione's desk chair into a cot and summoned some spare sheets.

"H-How did you do that?" Harry asked, looking frightened that he had asked that out loud.

"Magic." Remus replied with a grin. "You have it too, just like Hermione and I do."

"B-But that's f-f-f-f-reak st-st-stuff." Harry whispered.

A low growl ripped through his throat before he could stop it. Both of his cubs looked up at him frightened. Though Hermione relaxed after a moment, Harry remained fearful. He took a deep breath. "Sorry, I'll explain that reaction in a moment, alright; but I want to make one thing perfectly clear," Remus knelt down so he was eye level with Harry, "everything that Tunny and her husband did to you, is not ok. Your magic is a gift, passed onto you by your parents. You are not a freak, and neither is your magic. When these accident happen, its your magic reacting to your emotions. Just like when my eyes glow if I'm mad or scared. It's a reaction to my emotions."

"Why did your eyes glow?" Harry asked, his head tilting to the side in the same manner Lily used to when she was curious.

Remus smile gently. "I am a werewolf. So I have a beast prowling around in my head."

"He's a nice puppy." Hermione piped up, moving closer to Remus and nervously picking at a loose thread on his robe.

Remus chuckled. "Only you and-and Sirius would say that, Mia."

He nodded towards his bed. "You can sleep in here tonight, tomorrow we'll go shopping and grab things for your room and get everything set up. Ok?"

Hermione, who was watching the pair, grew nervous. She didn't want to share Remus, but she knew she had too. She was scared that he wouldn't want her anymore. So, she stood quietly beside him, watching them. Slowly, she backed out of the room and headed back downstairs. She curled up under a blanket and sat there. She waited patiently, knowing that soon, she wasn't going to be staying her for much longer. She took in the cottage from her spot on the couch, tears gathering in her eyes that she refused to let fall. She burrowed further into the blanket and took a deep breath. Exhaustion drifted through her body, her eyes drooping, as she nodded off sitting on the couch. A single tear escaping down her cheek.
