Chapter 1
Remus and Sirius are happy, they are. But Remus see's how happy Sirius is with Harry and Luna. Sirius is a natural with kids and seems to never stop smiling when he's playing with Harry Evans Potter and Luna Lovegood Rosier (who kept her biological surname and Pandora's insistence).
Remus remembers when he was younger, being a boy with no parents and no one who really cared about him. He often feels jealous seeing the love Harry and Luna get. e wished he had that.
Remus was lying awake in bed one day when a thought came to him. He hadn't had the love the kids have, but he could give that love. Harry and Luna are loved unwaveringly by eleven people,
James (Harry's father and who Luna called Uncle James)
Lily (Harry's mother and Luna's Mother's gf who she called Auntie Lily)
Regulus (Harry's Fathers Husband and Luna's Mothers best friend and who they both called Uncle Reg.)
Pandora (Harry's Mothers gf who he called Aunt Dora and Luna's mother)
Mary (Harry's mothers best friend who they both called Auntie Mary)
Marlene (Harry's mothers best friend and who they both called Aunt Mar)
Dorcas (Luna's Mothers Best friend and who they both called Auntie Dorcas)
Evan (Luna's Mother's brother and her actual uncle, who they both called Uncle Evan)
Barty (Luna's Mother's brother's boyfriend who they both called Uncle Barty)
Sirius (Harry's godfather who they both call Uncle Sirius - Though he thought he should be called God Sirius.)
Remus (Harry's godfather's boyfriend who they both called Uncle Remus - Or Uncle Remu because Sirius had told them it annoyed him)
These eleven people had more love to share Remus knew it, he could tell by the way they always spoiled the kids. But what if there was another kid? Would they love that one just as much? Even is they were adopted? Even if they had lycanthropy? Remus knew that at least half of the children that suffered with the werewolf condition were in care, like he was. He also knew first hand how little care actually cared for people with that condition. They did their best but throwing a five year old into a damp underground cell to tear himself to shreds didn't really work. He also knew how self conscious he was of his scars and how little knew ones he got now that he had the Marauders as animagi.
"Sirius?" He hissed turning to the lump in the sheets next to him,
"Hmm?" Sirius grumbled back turning to face Remus rubbing his eyes, "What time is it?"
"I don't know, but how would you feel if we adopted a kid?" Remus was high of excitement which must have come through in his speech because Sirius laughed,
"I didn't think you were that keen on kids?"
"What? I love Harry and Luna!"
"I know, I just didn't think you'd want one full time."
"Yeah, but what if it was a kid with lycanthropy, there's so many of them in care and they don't get the proper treatment and no one ever adopts them because it's to much work but we already know how to deal with it and then they won't get scars and -"
"Remus," Sirius cut off his rambling tone slightly stern, "Are you sure? It's a big thing to adopt. To adopt anyone that is, we'd have to go through lot's of house checks and papers to sign and they might not..."
"They might not what?"
Sirius sighed, "They might not let you adopt because your..." He trailed off again gesturing to Remus,
"'Cause I'm a werewolf?"
"Yeah." Sirius sighed.
"But..."
"Remus it's 2am, let's talk about this in the morning."
"Fine." Remus agreed sinking back down into his pillow but his heart as set. He would adopt a werewolf.
"Your really set on this, eh?" Sirius smiled and he moved about the kitchen, it was a Tuesday which meant Sirius and Remus looked after Harry and Luna while James, Regulus, Lily and Pandora all met up for a day with no kids. It had been Lily's idea, she had read that the most important part of co-parenting was contact with the other parents, and giving Reg and Dora were close the two couples met every Tuesday and some café and had some time to be together with out kids. Sirius had loved this idea when James had approached him about caring for the kids one day a week. Neither Sirius or Remus worked, they didn't need to, they had the fortune Sirius had inherited from his Uncle Alfred.
"Yes I am, just imagine have a little Harry all the time?"
Sirius grimaced, "He's very energetic... It's probably a good thing neither Lily or James have to have him all the time. Don't get me wrong I love him but I couldn't have him 24/7."
Remus laughed, "Okay a little Luna?"
Sirius grimaced again, "Love her too but she's a bit weird..."
"Sirius! You know what I mean, the kid wouldn't be as energetic as Harry and they wouldn't be like Luna, they'd be normal."
"And how do you know they won't be as energetic as Harry?"
"Because they won't be James's kid." At that Sirius laughed, full on laughed, he doubled over and rested his elbows on the counter, putting his head in his hands as his whole body shook, Remus smiled along side him,
"But you get to pick the kid, if you don't like them then you just don't have them."
"That seems a bit rude though, just rejecting a kid for their personality."
"They won't mind." Remus took a sip of his tea and when he put it down he noticed Sirius looking at him inquisitively,
"Did that happen to you?"
Remus shrugged, "Couple times, made myself believe I was being rejected for the Lycanthropy not my personality."
"That's horrible, moons." Sirius placed his tea on the counter and came over, he took Remus's tea from him and placed that on the counter as well, before wrapping his arms around Remus's neck and kissing him softly on the mouth. Remus instinctively opened his mouth and Sirius slid his tongue in, Remus wrapped his hands around Sirius's waist pulling him in by the hips, Sirius a soft noise escaped Sirius but it was quickly drowned out by the knocking at the door.
"Shit!" Sirius said as he pulled back reaching for the mugs of tea and pouring them half finished down the sink as Remus wiped his lips and took a quick glace in the mirror before he heard the door open. James always knocked one before he would simply come in, at least he was better then Regulus or Marlene who didn't even give them the decency of a knock.
"Alright boys!?"
"Kitchen!" Sirius replied rushing to the mirror to check himself over before letting out of sigh, he turned to Remus and smiled just as a small chubby boy tackled the back of his leg,
"Oh, hello there!" Sirius said picking Harry up and sitting him on his hip. Luna stood in the door way, she wasn't shy she just simply wasn't as energetic as her brother, personally Remus liked her more, she was very advanced for her age, and Remus often found himself having conversations with her that felt more like talking to his old friend Christopher. But she did have her fazes when she would cause absolute mayhem with Harry.
Remus gave Luna a small wave and she walked into the kitchen, "Hello, Uncle Remus."
"Hiya." Remus crouched down to be eyelevel with the little girl, he had found that Harry preferred to be lifted to your level but Luna preferred you to shrink to her level, Remus didn't mind it.
"I found this on the beach yesterday with Uncle Reg. He said it's a fossil." Luna's grammar was perfect for a four year old and she spoke very slowly and clearly though her voice was still high and baby-like.
"Oh, cool." Remus took it as she handed it out to him, it was a small rock with a spiral engraving on it. "Definitely a fossil." he said. The young girl beamed.
Remus looked up from his crouched position to see James and Reg in the door way talking to Sirius, well James was talking to Sirius, Reg was just there.
"Hey, Regulus!" Remus had only seen Reg three times since he'd been diagnosed with autism. He'd been going to therapy with James after the war to get over his fear of contact. Apparently their therapist had fixated on when Regulus had told her he'd always had a problem with touch it was only worse after the Inferi that Sirius had managed to save him from. The therapist had advised he try to get a diagnosis, Regulus had denied believing he had it but James and Sirius had both been talking and James believed he did, "He didn't talk until he was three." Sirius had said. Remus tried his best to act normal, after all nothing had changed about Regulus he now simply had a title. He hated that he panicked but he did.
"Hello, Remus."
"Where are you guys going today?" Remus was desperate to make Regulus know Remus thought of him no differently.
"Don't know, some bingo thing."
"Oh that's fun."
"Have you ever been to bingo?" Regulus asked raising an eyebrow,
"No..." Remus admitted sheepishly. Regulus smirked.
"Come one then, we should go." James said, "Left Dora and Lily in the car." He told the other boys. Sirius and Remus nodded and James linked his hand with Regulus and they left,
"Bye Harry!" James called from the living room. They heard a small whisper of Regulus's voice before James called, "And Luna! Bye!" Then the door open and closed, leaving Remus and Sirius alone with polar opposite children.
"Right!" What to do?" Sirius said, he still had Harry on his hip but he moved to sit in on the counter.
"It's a nice day," Luna said, "Perhaps we could go to the park?"
"YES!" Harry yelled his agreement.
"Park?" Sirius asked raising an eyebrow in Remus's direction.
"Don't see why not."
"Alright! Shoe's on people!"
"I hate shoes." Harry said,
"Same, who invented them?" Sirius agreed putting the boy back on his hip again.
"No one knows," Luna said, "The earliest known records of shoe wearers dates back to 7000 or 8000BC."
Sirius froze in the kitchen doorway turning around slowing to face the tiny encyclopaedia, "How-" he opened and closed his mouth multiple times, "What- where did you... why?"
Remus tried to stifle his laughter as he stood up taking the little girls hand, even Harry was frowning. Luna just laughed, "Harry always says he hates shoes, so I looked it up on Mum's computer."
Sirius looked up at Remus eyebrow still raised, Remus tried his best not to laugh as Sirius looked back down at the girl, "Well. I'll tell you what," Sirius begun adjusting his grip on Harry, "Your going places, Luo."
The small girl blushed and smiled looking down.
"PARK!!!" Harry yelled flailing around in Sirius's arms,
"Okay, okay, jeez!" We're going.
"You know what?" Sirius said as he climbed into bed that night after having safely returned the children to their respective parents, "I do want one. Just so long as it's not as energetic as Harry and doesn't spit random ass facts like Luna."
Remus did laugh now, Sirius grinned, "Yeah, same."
Sirius climbed in still grinning as he lay his head on Remus's chest, "We could give a kid a really good life." He said.
"That's why I want to adopt." Remus said
"Well we ain't really got another option." Sirius grinned. That Sirius Black grin.
