"Why are we doing this, again?"
Yeosang gave a soft sigh, eyes closing to avoid blowing his temper. He had to recall, Wooyoung was a hyperactive omega wolf. And sometimes, what conversation or explanation went through one ear. Often went right through his brain, and out the other. Yeosang paused in his step, and looked back to his omega best friend and pack member. And the one he was starting to become more and more infatuated with. He took him in, before he finally repeated for what must have been the umpteenth time for them, "Because cities tend to have the better facilities."
Wooyoung groaned, shifting his backpack on his shoulder, "But cities are heavily infested areas. Before you know it, they'll be building nests and evolving. And besides, there's no power."
Yeosang blinked, taking him in from head to toe.
After puzzling his omega out a little, he turned with a small huff, "We got a bad ass bitch of an omega to keep us safe. And you got a just about done with your shit alpha ready take his frustrations out on the zombies, as well. We'll be fine. And besides, I know that. That's why it's the best we've got. While I'd like a regular wolf too, that can wait. Can we really rely on big governments to try and find a cure? If there is much to the government left. If they can create this damned thing, why didn't they have a cure made beforehand? Sometimes, I found that to be the most ridiculous and stupidest part of all those movies and shows. Let's make a virus that turns wolves into zombies, and not have a fucking cure ready."
Wooyoung hummed, "And you think you can? Yeo, it can take years to develop a cure. And you have to remember, the virus will evolve. So too, will the cure have to evolve. That will be extra work."
Yeosang hummed, nodding. Wooyoung had fair points. And at this point, Yeosang had to believe Wooyoung was just worried. Or even scared. Wooyoung did become extra chatty and complained more, when he was unsettled. So, he spoke softly and soothingly, "I know, Woo. But, I have to try. I always wanted to be a doctor. Perform life saving surgeries. I'm not a scientist, nor a doctor. Never got that education. But the times are different now, I have to educate myself. And right now, I need to head for cities. They have better medical facilities. When it comes to electrical power, I don't know. I'll figure it out in due time. But I want to start getting my hands into some zombie guts. Start studying them."
Wooyoung pulled a face, "And I gotta be your assistant?"
Yeosang grinned at him, "You bring them in. Incapacitated, of course. I'm not asking you to die on me." He grimaced and finally spoke softly, "It would devastate me to lose you like that. And so soon. You're my pack."
Wooyoung watched him a moment. After thinking, Wooyoung drew closer and softly nuzzled his jawline, "You'll always have me, Yeo. I'm hard to get rid of. You know that."
Yeosang looked to him, red eyes glittering with many mixed emotions. He bit his bottom lip, trying to refrain himself from reaching out. From winding his arm around Wooyoung's waist, and holding him close. Maybe. Maybe even, kiss him. He willed his blood not to reach his cock. He couldn't. He doubted Wooyoung felt the same. Yeosang smiled softly, "Yeah. Yeah, I do. I want to do this. For the two of us. And any we come across."
Wooyoung nodded, before he finally pointed out, "I'm surprised you want us to head north. It's more crowded north."
Yeosang shrugged, "Yes, but north has more cities. I'm not asking us to head for Seoul. That's an impenetrable fortress of zombies right now. But the bigger cities are our goal. Who knows, we may even find our pack along the way."
Wooyoung hummed, but nodded.
//
They stood before the large and dirty sign, before Wooyoung turned to his alpha best friend, "So, where we headed for ultimately?"
Yeosang hummed, "Anyang is closer, but Incheon is bigger."
Wooyoung nodded, before he spoke, "Let's get to Anyang. It's as you said, closer. I don't think we're ready to tackle Incheon just yet. Plus, Anyang is close to a military base. May find supplies there on our way to the actual city."
Yeosang smiled, rather proud of Wooyoung, "I quite like your thinking. As soon as we reach the military base, we raid that first. Not just for food and medical supplies. But anything we can use for research. Well, me more than you."
Wooyoung nodded, "Maybe more weapons. They got guns, right?"
Yeosang hummed, nodding in agreement, "They should be a last resort, Woo. You know they'll draw more. Much as I want you to bag me a fresh zombie, I don't need you calling too many at once. I'm not losing you yet."
Wooyoung gently nudged him, "I'm not doing that. But, don't you want their brains as intact as possible? Even though they're rotting mush by now?"
Yeosang sighed, "If possible, yes. But don't risk your life for an intact zombie brain."
Wooyoung nodded, before he asked, "Yeo, how long will this be anyway?"
Yeosang sighed, "I don't know. Given how long it took normally with power, it could be longer with our limited resources. Also, you're my first test subject."
"The fuck you mean by that?!"
Yeosang smirked, happy to hear his best friend in such a moment, "What I mean is, I need someone to test the anti-virus and cure stuff. You're the only one I have."
Wooyoung at this, whined, "But Yeosangie~, you know I don't like needles."
Yeosang smirked, "I'll be right here to help. Just until we get a new pack member. Once we do, I'll use them. And only give you the full cure when I reach it."
Wooyoung pouted, arms crossed, "So glad I get to be your dummy."
Yeosang bit his bottom lip, trying not to snort nor laugh at his statement. Wooyoung could be a bit of a dummy, but Yeosang wasn't going to dare say that. Wooyoung could get scary when he was killing something. Or someone. Yeosang spoke, "Consider it a win, Woo. You'd be the first wolf cured. You could finally get claimed without fear of turning as a result."
Wooyoung huffed, arms still crossed.
But he did know, Yeosang had a point. With a destination in mind, they turned and made to head for the military base just outside Anyang. Yeosang was actually excited and eager. Finally, Yeosang could begin his work as a medical professional. Well, in this new world. He'd studied his medical books for as long as he could. Multiple times. Quizzing himself. And even having Wooyoung quiz him. But the books could only teach him so much. He had to get his hands on the real things. And besides, the books never talked about zombies. Clearly. After having finished his studying of the books and material within, Yeosang had decided it was time he left the books behind.
Hopefully, they served the same purpose for someone else. They'd need what medical personal they could get. Once they all got organized, there would be many safe zones throughout South Korea. Eventually, it would expand to the rest of the world. Communications limited at first, but they would soon be able to get in contact with one another. This meant that they would have to work in some fashion for food, trade, medical supplies, and information. But there was one thing Yeosang would refuse to unveil. If he was successful, that was.
The cure.
He knew such information would be so valuable, that the one who knew of the cure had to be guarded at all times. Not that Yeosang was willing to divulge such information to anyone. Except Wooyoung. He would trust his inner wolf to inform him which wolves he could trust such important information with, and who he had to keep it a secret from. He knew others may be racing to find a cure. But, he wanted to be the first. If he was lucky.
As they wandered, Yeosang had to wonder who they'd meet. And how they'd form their own pack. And he wondered, who was this wolf in his soul that he knew was yet missing. He felt complete with Wooyoung, but he knew there was one more. He could feel it. He also did hate to turn Wooyoung into a pin cushion. Constantly sticking him with needles to hopefully form a cure, and protection from the virus. But he had few options. Besides, it may save Wooyoung's life. And that was the one thing Yeosang was adamant about. He loved Wooyoung. More and more, his love wasn't just the love of a friend. But the love of an alpha, for his omega mate. And while Yeosang had yet to touch on that love or act on it, he knew it was there.
True, the cure would not stop Wooyoung from dying by zombies or psychotic wolves. Eaten, or gunned down. But it would stop him from coming back as a walking corpse. If that ever happened, Yeosang was joining him.
They were pack, after all.
//
Yeosang blinked, looking at Wooyoung staring at him.
They'd arrived at the long abandoned military base. Only taking out the few zombies within. While wishing the former soldiers peace at last. They'd served their country as well as they could, to the bitter end. They had taken all the food and medical supplies they could. And what machines they could. He knew logically, it wasn't safe to haul that many machines so far. Not without using a vehicle. And neither one were confident enough to drive one without issues. But now, Yeosang was donning a fresh and clean military uniform. Eh, minus the camouflage jacket.
The white tank top was enough.
And it was unveiling his alpha muscles. Wooyoung's eyes were taking him in. Yeosang had to wonder based on his observations, did Wooyoung like what he saw? Was he attractive more so now to the omega? He could have smirked. Maybe there was hope for him yet. To finally get together. He could storm over to Wooyoung now. Pin the omega against the table behind him, and ravish him. But-. Yeosang wisely looked away. He would rather discuss that, than just go full force. There had to be some consent involved in this unforgiving new world.
But he had to wonder, if Wooyong would really have minded. He could have had at his neck, his lips. Grinding, even going fully into having sex. They were older now. No longer in high school. And they were the adults now. Considering how the real adults let them the fuck down. And besides, they were around eighteen years of age. They were considered legal consenting adults. If that was even such a thing anymore. So Yeosang could very well start mating with Wooyoung. They couldn't keep having their cycles alone. He was not at all stupid to the fact Wooyoung's was starting to get worse. And, more painful. He'd need an alpha.
And soon.
But, was Yeosang the one Wooyoung wanted? What of the other wolf Yeosang knew they had yet to meet? The one that his heart still sang for, yearned for. He wished he knew. He knew there had to be a reason he was called north with Wooyoung. Not just because the cities had better medical facilities for him to do his research. To try and find a cure. They were coming north, for a reason. He suspected deep inside, this was where his pack was roaming. Not yet complete. Not yet formed. But they were around here. And Yeosang was determined to find them.
After a moment, Yeosang looked back to Wooyoung. He was wearing similar. Though, he wasn't trying to show off his alpha body. And he was trying to keep his omega breasts from being too exposed. But given how large the military tank tops could be, they were pretty well concealed. Wooyoung smiled at him, the look in his eyes gone. For now, he was sure, "Shall we head to Anyang?"
Yeosang nodded, "Let's get going. I know of a facility there we need to get to. It's-" He sighed softly, "Deep in the city. So be ready for it. But it's our best bet." He shrugged, "I would very much so prefer Seoul, but I'm not that suicidal just yet." He winked at Wooyoung, "At least we'll have a place to stay for a while. Who knows, may find a new wolf around that area. Might grow our pack at last."
Wooyoung nodded, "I can't wait to meet our packmates."
Yeosang smiled, nodding as he pulled the gun from the table beside him. He was ready to head out. He nodded, "Let's go. We'll try to get to the facility during the day." He hummed, "Winter is slowly coming. I'll bet come next spring, the zombies will have gone through their first evolution. We have a lot of shit to do, Woo. Time, is running out on finding the base cure."
Wooyoung nodded. Together, they stepped back outside, and made to head for Anyang. Yeosang had a plan in mind. They would stay in Anyang the whole of winter. He'd do what he could to make a base cure for the base virus. Once he had that, he would take what he knew, and guide Wooyoung towards Incheon. There, he would work on making variant cures for the variant evolved viruses to come. Well, that was his hope. He knew anything could happen. And he'd have to vacate as quickly as possible. But, he'd need to make sure he left with his notes. He wasn't leaving his sensitive research and notes to be found by anyone.
He was fucking determined to kept that shit to himself.
---_____---
The blood slowly dripped from the edge of the head of the nail.
The nail itself imbedded in the wood in his firm grasp. The house was abandoned. Picked clean. But he could tell, it had seen life not too long ago. At least he'd found a place to stay for the night. He hated the fact he was traveling so far south. But he knew it was for the best, for his own survival. There were homes nearby. All likely part of a farming community. And he appreciated that. Maybe he'd find a decent place to try and reclaim. Making himself a garden or farm. And have something to eat. But time for him, was running dry.
Maybe, he could raid and wait until spring.
But for now, he was finding a place to spend the night. Somewhere relatively safe. And considering the door was closed when he'd found this home, he assumed it was zombie free. And he was correct. He still checked, just to be safe. Now, he stood looking down at the wooden and slightly warped floor. At his feet, rest a few books. He knelt, gently picking them up. After checking them over, he gave a low hum. Without hesitation, he pulled them close. Time he secured the home for the night. Then, he supposed he had some medical studying to do. He wondered if the pack he'd meet would have one already. Well, never hurt to have other medical personal on hand.
He'd carry them with him, until he was certain he had it all down.
Could save the lives of his pack.
