Flying Solo

He watched as the body went rigid, before slowly tipping back.

And falling to the floor with a thud. A familiar sound by now, having filled corridors and raided apartments throughout the complex. A black stick emerging from its forehead. Decorated with red feathering. Poisonous blood slowly oozed from its gaping wound, staining the floor for however long in its almost blackened crimson color. No twitch, no draw of breath. No movement. Dead. Dealt with thoroughly. Soul released, danger passed. Another apartment unit cleared for raiding.

He stood in a perfect poise, feet apart properly for balance. Face neutral, arms held in their original position. His grip on the body of his bow firm. After once again reassuring himself the zombie was thoroughly dispatched, he slowly relaxed his stance. Cautiously, he made his approach. Zombies could become smarter, eh sort of. Whatever the illness was that caused this outbreak, was going to evolve at one point. To become even more dangerous and deadly. But Yunho was far from throwing caution to the wind this early on in the outbreak. Though he wondered if the brain was still a feasible option, when the mutations and evolutions of the virus happened.

Once at the corpse, he reached down with his fingerless black leather gloves. And pried his arrow from its mushed rotten brains, and soft skull. He turned and flicked his arrow, splattering the walls with its brain matter and blood. Doing his best to leave his arrow somewhat clean and reusable. It was going to be a really sore day when he lost these arrows and could not reclaim them. But he hoped he would have plenty of backup at whatever base he found himself at. And whatever pack he joined.

He then set it into his quiver behind his back next to his backpack, and went into the unit he'd just cleared out. Time to gather food and medical supplies. He found more than just food and medical supplies, however. But it was a good thing. He was not entirely too sure what this former wolf did in its life, but it sure had some truly intriguing things they left behind. Including a crowbar. Yunho smirked as he picked it up. Much as he loved his bow and arrows, he couldn't count on them in too close quarter combat. He'd need an alternative weapon.

Seemed he'd found one.

Instantly, Yunho found a good place to store it. Somewhere in reach he could easily access it. Where it would not fall, nor get shaken loose and get lost. His black ear flickered, hearing the groaning and banging of other zombies throughout the complex he'd yet to dispose of. He was getting to them. He'd only just started his scavenging. Right at that moment, he was only on the thirty fifth floor. He was only five floors into his sweep of the complex. But he was working fairly quickly. And with the crowbar, he could finally speed up his progress. He'd keep his bow and arrows. They felt like they were his unique signature. But he'd give them a break and use the crowbar. It would put the zombies out sooner, and he could just carry on with his raiding.

After he was done with this complex, he wasn't entirely too sure.

He certainly wasn't going to stay in the city. That was too dangerous. The cities would only be worth raiding when supplies were strained. And or they were certain the hordes had left the cities to wander. With this all in mind, Yunho knew his best bet was to wander first. He would find the fastest route out of the city, and take it.

After that, only nature truly knew.

//

The crowbar had its positives, and negatives.

He found it was messier. And he sometimes had to use it a few times to really ensure the zombie was taken care of. But it was helping him clear the building a little faster. Not having to take the time to get an arrow ready for use every time. But the arrow worked so much better. Cleaner, faster, one fell swoop. But it did take time to get one ready for use. So in a way, he was glad to have both. They had their strengths, and their weaknesses. And he could only just put up with them both. Especially as he had few options.

Yunho played it dangerously, however.

For he moved about at night.

He wasn't entirely too sure how dangerous zombies became at night at present. But as long as he stayed in the building, he supposed he was fine doing this. They did seem to become a bit more aggressive at night. That wolf in them lost somewhere possibly? Mattered little. As Yunho was packing some medical supplies he'd found into his medical kit, he had a thought run through his head. He frowned, he so hoped no fucking cure for this was in some city. And clearly a trap. He wasn't sure he wanted to return to any of the big cities. Treasure trove of supplies they may be, it was also so risky only the most desperate should think of such places to get to.

Unlike some of the shows and movies he's seen, he knew Korea had some fertile soil. They knew how to grow their own fruits and vegetables. And since it wasn't all bulldozed for more concrete and urban jungles, they still had plenty of fresh meat game they could hunt. He smirked triumphantly to himself at this fact. He was an archer. He'd easily hunt down game and feed his pack. Himself, as well. But he'd have to thoroughly clean his arrows first. Uncertain what it was that turned wolves.

Other than the typical bite.

And no, he wasn't about to see what all the limit was. He wasn't stupid, nor suicidal. Not yet, anyway. He wondered if he'd ever reach that point. When that would be. And how he'd go. As dark and morbid as it was, these were things he had to consider. Even though he was very much determined to live as long as he could in this new world. He had a vigor and fire inside him, that he knew would not let him go down without a fierce fight.

With the last of this unit's supplies in his backpack, he stood with it. And finally, left for the next unit. Downstairs. He remained cautious, even this far into his raiding game. When the sign informed him he was on the fifteenth floor, he felt a wave of relief wash over him. He was so close to the end. He supposed once he got to the first floor, he'd get some more proper rest. Anything to face the challenging world outside the complex. He'd been at this for a few days now. He was no longer aware of the time. It was passing him by as he killed zombies, and raided for necessary supplies.

Sure beat any old exam from school.

He woke with a small start.

He remained still and silent, tall black ears slowly moving. Straining. However, his alarms slowly dwindled down to quite noise. He was alright. The complex was still zombie free. Officially. He'd just slept deeply. A dangerous concept these days, but he was fine. With a sigh, Yunho rolled over. Sorely tempted to go back to sleep. His muscles were a bit sore from swinging the crowbar and using his bow so much. But they would adjust. With a second heavy sigh, Yunho sat up. He pulled his backpack closer, and shuffled through it before finding a granola bar.

He paced himself on his bites. Making sure to enjoy and savor it, and the water he used to wash it down. It would have to power him for the foreseeable future. Once the last of it was gone Yunho sealed his water bottle thoroughly, and put it back in his backpack. He stretched and groaned, before finally rising to his feet. He then put his backpack on, and knew it was time he left the city region. And made for the uncertain future. He first stopped to raid the offices and supply closets. And even the janitorial closet, just to be certain he had all he could take from the place.

Once everything was cleared out, it was time to leave.

He was very cautious opening the door to the outside world. Thank gods the sun was up. It did make spotting zombies mother fucking easy as hell. After checking the coast was clear at his block, Yunho quietly slipped from his building. Closing the door quietly, before making for the alleyway. Once in the shadows of the buildings, Yunho turned and made for his exit from the area.

If he has calculated correctly, he should reach the city limit mid-afternoon. This would give him excellent time to try and find somewhere to hunker down for the night outside the city. And wait for a new day. It would also help him mentally prepare to deal with all kinds of wolves he met out there. The biggest question, would he find one worth sticking with?

He hoped so.

Lone wolf sounded nice and all, but even lone wolves craved companionship. And as a very friendly alpha, Yunho's desire for companionship would win out over being alone. He just hoped that only happened with the right wolf or wolves. After all, this new world would change everyone. For both good, and ugly. He just had to figure out what his principals were. What his moral compass was, and be with wolves that shared similar values and morals. Even in the zombie apocalypse.

Just as he had predicted, Yunho reached the city limit mid-afternoon. He didn't bolt for it, but he did pick up his pace. He scanned his surroundings, looking for places to get to before the sun set. He was now in the wilds. A wanderer and survivor. Attempting to carve out an existence in this new crazy world. He had to keep his wits about him. He had to be smart, and be cautious. Mindful of his supplies, and when it was time to move on. Away from zombies and bad wolves. He had a long journey before him, and all he could do was take it one day and step at a time.

That's usually how this worked.

And it would do the same for Yunho.

Right into a nasty fist and kick.

Far in the future, of course.
