Not So Spicy Chickens

He had berated his packmate at the beginning, as being quiet was one of the things he wasn't so good at.

As if reminded that sound more than likely drew zombies to their exact location, Wooyoung had finally calmed down. Yeosang chalked it up to nervousness. And to be honest, the marble statue wolf didn't blame the black pearl omega he was best friends with. He'd be a nervous wreck too, if he were alone. But he wasn't. He had Wooyoung. And he had to remind the omega, he had Yeosang. Now Wooyoung moved about like a whisper. It was almost jarring, actually. Seeing his energetic, bouncy, and loud friend so quiet and subdued.

It saddened him, really. It was like Wooyoung's light had been put out, and replaced with something foreign. It actually crushed his soul, and broke his heart. To see Wooyoung having to change so drastically, in such a short amount of time. Yeosang had so many feelings buried deep inside. Feelings he was afraid of, and uncertain of. He wasn't sure what he could do to comfort Wooyoung. But as the days passed, Wooyoung seemed to fall into his new rhythm.

Once the initial chaos surrounding them had died down a little, they decided it was time to look for a weapon. And pack what they could. Wooyoung had grimaced at the idea of using a pan for a weapon. The omega loved to cook, even at this stage of his life. But at the reminder, Yeosang pointed out they'd be good weapons. Not like they'd be useful for cooking for the foreseeable future. Besides, they had fewer options. Perhaps sometime during their survival, they'd find better weapons and ditch the pans. But for now, it was all they had.

It as enough for Wooyoung to agree.

As the chaos began to die down a little, they began to start packing their supplies. Mostly food and clothing. And some first aid supplies. When Yeosang pointed out what was going to be very useful in the future, Wooyoung looked to him with mild suspicion. Yeosang had brushed it off, as they continued to move about Wooyoung's place. Once they had everything, they had to risk their leaving early.

Wooyoung had safely admitted, the sound of the frying pans hitting the zombies in the head made a rather satisfying and enjoyable sound. Yeosang had smirked and rolled his eyes. At least it made his omega friend happy. It was with this, they had gone through the entire complex. And packed as much as they could into Wooyoung's backpack. Once it was as filled as possible, they made their plans for getting to Yeosang's place. And raiding it as well.

Then, they'd leave.

What Yeosang didn't see, was Wooyoung was also looking for something else. Whenever Yeosang would go through the medical supplies, Wooyoung would raid for something else. As curious as Yeosang was at time, he never pressed the issue. He was sure Wooyoung had his reasons. And he did. Yeosang just wouldn't know until they were finally ready to leave for the wilds.

Which was soon.

Getting from Wooyoung's thoroughly cleaned out complex to Yeosang's, was a minor challenge.

Mostly trying to avoid being caught by zombies. And while they both wanted to run, they knew it would draw attention. The sounds of their shoes on the concrete would echo about in the eerie silence. They'd be noticed for sure. So, they had walked. Making sure to take what shortcuts they could, and avoid the massive hordes at all costs.

As they peered around the side of a building, Yeosang pulled back. He frowned and looked to Wooyoung, and whispered as quietly as he could, "I think there's a back entrance. You know, for like deliveries and stuff."

Wooyoung nodded and hissed back, "We're going to have to backtrack a little to get across."

Yeosang nodded. With their plan in place, they made to head back a few blocks. Just to put some safe enough distance between them, and the zombies milling about just outside Yeosang's complex. Once they deemed it safe enough, they crossed the road for the other side. Once safely tucked into the alleyways on the other side, they made to get back to the block with Yeosang's complex.

Once they reached it, they carefully looked for an alternative entrance. Upon finding one, they managed to slip inside without causing too much noise. After softly and quietly closing the door behind them, they turned and made for Yeosang's unit. They had also agreed they'd spend a few days crashing there. If nothing more, than to figure out the next step of their plan. What they'd do once they left. Where they might try and go. They wouldn't look for any military outposts. That was as suicidal as going to the major cities. But they had to figure out what general region they wanted to head for. What they suspected would be their best chances of survival.

Yeosang had agreed.

They remained as stealthy and quiet going up to Yeosang's unit, as they had coming here. Well, even quieter. Not walking a bit more casually as they had. But much stiffer and quieter. Going slower, more methodical. They also kept eyes and ears out for zombies. Yeosang led. He was an alpha. As the elder of the two and the alpha of their pack of two, he had a duty to protect Wooyoung. He was younger, omega, and packmate. Wooyoung kept eyes and ears on their rear.

Should one just happen to stumble upon them from behind.

Upon reaching his unit, they slipped in quietly. It was empty. No zombies, no family. They were gone. As expected. As agreed upon, they finally crashed. Ready to regain some strength to take out the building's zombies. And then leave for the unknown. As Wooyoung got comfortable, he pulled out something from his pocket, and began to fiddle with it. Despite his curiosity, Yeosang didn't look or ask. If it kept Wooyoung calm, then that was all he cared about.

And he truly cared so much for Wooyoung.

Wooyoung gave a small amused scoff, and a light tease, "Really, Yeosangie?"

Yeosang looked to him with a small frown. His grip on his medical book growing taught, "Your point?"

Wooyoung shrugged and replied, sounded possibly a bit hurt Yeosang never told him, "I, never knew you wanted to become a medical professional."

Yeosang's ear flickered, detecting Wooyoung's tone. He spoke softly, "I was going to, closer to graduation. It was many years off. And we still had two years left. I promise, I was going to tell you. So we could figure out where we went to from there. But it's all in the past now. I can still study. Might be useful information. Having someone with a medical education, even if self taught isn't such a bad thing."

Wooyoung nodded slowly, "I, guess that makes sense. We can bring what you have."

Yeosang nodded, "Once I have it all down and have had plenty of practice, I'll ditch the books. They'll eventually weigh us down. I'll personally carry them. No, it won't be in a sanitized environment. But we have little choice."

Wooyoung nodded in agreement at that, "Okay."

With that sorted, Yeosang and Wooyoung began their raid of the building. Going floor by floor, and unit by unit. At least now, Wooyoung knew why Yeosang seemed to know what first aid supplies would be to their fortune. As before, he left those to Yeosang. And Wooyoung took what foods they could carry. After much debate, Wooyoung also reduced the clothing they'd take. Just enough for the season changes. It wasn't ideal, but they had to be smarter about it. In the future, they could raid stores for whatever clothing they may have left. If they wanted a new wardrobe. But fashion was the last thing on anyone's mind.

Even the most fashionable and makeup oriented.

Right now, it was all about food and medical supplies. Any extra stuff had to be a very good personal reason. Like Yeosang's medical textbooks. They would in fact, serve them well. Mostly for Yeosang's studying. Wooyoung could nearly shudder at the thought Yeosang would have to get his claws into the bodies of the living. Possibly the dead as well. He wasn't sure if he could stomach it. Maybe at the moment, he couldn't. But with time, he'd adjust. And then he'd hardly bat an eyelash. Wooyoung had never thought about what he'd do for his own future career. Maybe cook. It was what he liked most. But now, none of that mattered.

As they had done at Wooyoung's, they started from the very top and worked their way down. So that way once they were finished raiding, they could just leave and not look back. No sense in working backwards. And once again, Wooyoung seemed transfixed to find something specific. And fiddle with it. It was slightly concerning for Yeosang, but he refused to push. Wooyoung needed what privacy he could get in this new world. That almost made Yeosang question, how would they handle one another's cycles?

They were not mates.

As much as Yeosang may have on occasion liked the idea. But he just chalked it up to his pheromones and nothing more. It came and went from time to time. He blamed his alpha side, knowing it could be problematic for all alphas out there. He also agreed with himself, it was simply because here was a potential mate right by his side. Given his options were greatly limited, it was nice to have one nearby. But he could never do that to his Wooyoungie. They were best friends and pack. Nothing more. Maybe for now, maybe forever.

Once the last of the units was thoroughly cleaned out and picked clean, it was time they left for the unknown. Just as they went to step outside, Wooyoung gently pulled Yeosang back. The alpha blinked, looking to his best friend in some concern. Wordlessly, Wooyoung slipped on a black piece of string, tying it in a double knot. He then handed another one to Yeosang, and offered over his wrist as he spoke softly, "Even if we are ever separated, we'll always have one another. Be it by the winds, or by fate. I will always be with you. And you will always be with me."

Yeosang blinked, touched.

Carefully, he tied the other black string around Wooyoung's wrist. A pack bracelet, sort of. And it truly did mean a great deal to Yeosang. And he knew this brought both comfort, and meaning to Wooyoung as well. That they would always have one another, even if they weren't together physically anymore. Once he finished, he took Wooyoung's hand. The ends of the bracelets dangling from their wrists. And with a small squeeze of comfort and strength, Yeosang guided Wooyoung out and into the wilds.

They were a pack of two.

Where one went, the other followed.

Always.
