Chapter 5
They walked around the dorm halls for a little bit talking about their classes, people they found annoying, really whatever came up. "We haven't talked like this in forever it feels like." Regulus said, with a small smile, happy that he and James were getting along finally.
"It has been a while since I've seen you, and Siri." He stated, as he hadn't seen them all of break. "Besides when Sirius Facetimed me, when he was in your room a few weeks ago, me and you talked then," Regulus hummed, that had been the day their parents had left. The brothers weren't allowed their phones at home, one of the weird rules their mother insisted on. They given them their phones back to contact them while in Italy; though they never did, and the boys weren't complaining. Sirius had instantly called his friends, while Regulus didnt care as much as he was never really on his phone regardless.
They walked around for a while before deciding to sit down and give their legs a break. Regulus sat down next to the wall, crossing his legs as James slid down and 'plopped' down on the ground. "So," James started streching out the 'o' "If you still don't want to talk about it, I understand. But what was you bad dream about?" Regulus thought for a moment, deciding if it was even worth it to talk about it, as it changed nothing and just caused him unnecessary stress.
"It was just about something that happened over the summer, there's no need to relive it as it's in the past. That's why I didn't want to talk about it." He explained. James looked at him taking it in and thinking about what to say. "Well, sometimes talking about it can help, like getting it off your chest." He remarked, hoping to convince the younger otherwise. Regulus started ahead of him, before taking a breath and replying,
"It's a lot, well, not the dream, the dream was only one specific time, but.. I don't know. A lot has happened these last two years at home. I haven't really told anyone, not even Sirius, its just hard to even think about." He explained looking down at the floor. There goes his good mood. James stared at him, anxious about what could of happened, and if it had anything to do with his eating.
"Listen," James started as he stood up, "you don't have to talk about it if you're not ready too. It's okay," The younger boy looked up at him, making eye contact as James extended his hand to help him up. "but whenever you're ready too, I'll be here to listen." He said as Regulus accepted his hand, and he pulled him up. Regulus fought back tears and pulled James into a hug to hide his face. James hugged him back as his face reddened slightly.
They stood there hugging for a few seconds before pulling away. As they did, James' hands slid across the bottom of the others back, causing Regulus to blush as he felt butterflies in his stomach. James pulled out his phone, oblivious to the youngers internal panic. "Well it's just about half past 5', we should probably head back soon." He said holding out his phone for the other to see the time. "Yeah, uh- Yeah lets go." Regulus muttered out turning away and walking back to the dorm. James followed him and the pair stayed silent the whole way.
The next few weeks of school went by like normal and before Regulus realized it was November. Also, the third, of November. Which meant today was his older brothers 16th birthday.
He was sitting in his dorms lounge area with Sirius, going over the birthday cards he had received throughout the day. All of a sudden, the door slammed open and James, Peter, and some boy he had never seen before stormed in abruptly, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" His other dorm mates sang, the mystery boy hanging back, holding a birthday bag, looking quite embarrassed at the people staring. Regulus looked over to his brother to see him staring at the three, a stunned expression. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR SIRIUSSS! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" James pulled his hands out from behind his head and put a party hat onto Sirius' head. It was yellow and red, and spelt out 'Birthday Boy' on the front.
Remus walked over and handed him the bag as everyone else in the room went back to doing what they were. He looked over at Regulus and waved. "Hello, I'm Remus, I don't think we've met but Sirius has told me a lot about you." Oh this was Sirius' mysterious boyfriend. He would have met him sooner but the chance just never came up. "Regulus, pleasure to meet you." He shook his hand smiling at him.
Remus had wavy brown hair and freckles splattered across his face. His eyes were a deep brown and his skin was tan with scars all over his arms. He was considerably taller than the rest of the boys and had a inviting smile.
Sirius finally spoke. "Why the hell would you barge into the public lounge where everyone goes after class to hang out?" He said covering his face in embarrassment. "I tried to tell them, really, but James insisted he had to embarrass you." Remus said, laughing a little at how embarrassed the birthday boy really was. Sirius sighed looking over to the side of the couch too see what Remus had gotten him. "Siri what time does your party start again?" Regulus asked wanting to make sure he didnt miss it. "10 tonight." The older started "Make sure your there Reg. Im serious I want you to come."
"Well we all know you're Sirius!" James joked holding back a laugh. "Oh my God James, we get it my name is Sirius! It's not that funny." Sirius replied rolling his eyes. This just made James burst into a fit of laughter.
The boys went about for the rest of their day until Sirius' birthday party was about to start. Regulus exited the bathroom in his dorm in just a towel as the rest of his roommates were helping set up the party. He walked over to his dresser, about to take off his towel to change, when the door burst open. "AHHHH!" Regulus screamed, covering his chest frantically so whoever it was wouldn't see.
"Oh my god, Reg!" James said, slapping his hand over his eyes. "I'm so sorry, uh, I'll- I'll go.." He turned around and shut the door. Regulus was bright as a tomato, and looked around as he collected what just happened. He was so embarrassed, whishing he had locked the door. He felt a bit stupid for assuming they wouldn't come back up, as they were quite spontaneous people, his roommates.
He hurriedly threw on his outfit be picked for the party last night, his shoes and grabbed his phone, and brothers present, before walking out the dorm. HE closed and locked the dorm, still a bit shaken from the earlier encounter with James. He sighed and started to make his way.
He rounded the corner on his way to the room they were throwing the party at, and made eye contact with James who was sitting on a bench in the hallway. They stared at each other for a few seconds before both turning red and looking away, trying to think of what to say.
"I am, so sorry Reg, I should of knocked." James said apologetically, with a bright red face. "No, it's alright, I should of locked the door. I just didn't think anyone would come in. I figured you were all with Siri." He explained. "Sirius sent me up to make sure you were getting ready, I just assumed you would be sitting in bed reading or something, like he did." The other explained. Sirius really had such little faith in his brother. He chuckled at the whole situation. "It's all okay, Jamie. Accidents happen." Regulus stated before the two made their way to the party.
When they walked into the room there were quite more people there then Regulus had expected. He looked down at his phone to see the party had only started 10ish' minutes ago. Sirius was quite the popular kid, apparently. Or it was just because free alcohol, and music. Perhaps a mixture.
"REGGIE YOUR HERE!" Sirius shouted coming up to his brother to hug him, already half wasted. "Already drunk? Really." Regulus said with a small chuckle, as he accepted the hug from a drunken Sirius, just this one time. Only because it was his birthday. "Why don't you care I'm here?" James joked with false puppy-dog eyes. "Reg comes first, sorry Jamie." Sirius said honestly. Regulus just hugged him closer. "Happy Birthday brother." He said with a small smile on his face.
The two pulled away from the hug and Regulus went to put his gift with the others. He then walked over to the drinks and pour a solo cup of a bottle of 'Rogue Wave', which is a popular Scottish vodka he knew of, but never had. He took a sip and gagged, shuddering at the strong burning sensation. With a few 'eugh's, Regulus walked over to his brother and roommates to socialize.
A few hours into the party, Sirius was blacked out, passed out of the couch in the room, head in Remus' lap. Regulus was almost done with his second cup, and was absolutely wasted. He was stumbling around looking for James. He didn't quite know why but he wanted the boy. He looked around and saw a boy with brown hair talking to some other person. He walked over to him and put his hand on his shoulder. "James, I-I've been looking for you everywhere." He stuttered out, before the boy turned around and Regulus suddenly realized, that was not James.
"Oh! You're not James. Sorry.." He started as the not James grabbed his wrist tightly. "I may not be James, but my name is Eric, and I may be better." He pulled Regulus closer to him as Regulus tried to get away in a drunken panic. "Let go of me, I'm not interested, you SLUG!" He yelled out, slurring his words as he looked around for help. The boy stepped on his foot and pulled him in for a kiss. Regulus started tearing up from the pain in his foot and the grasp on his wrist. He tried to pull away, but couldn't seem to get out of the boys grip.
He felt someone pull him away and he looked to see who it was, but didn't see anyone. He looked infront of him and saw James punch Eric in the face. He fell back on the floor, pulling his hand up to his face. "What the fuck dude!?" He yelled, as a croud formed around. Regulus was properly freaking out now, especially with an audience. James stood over and stared down at him. "Get out. Now." The dude sat up and ran out the room, tripping a few times. James turned around to Regulus, as everyone started to resume what the were doing.
"Reg, are you okay? Did he hurt you?" Regulus just stared at him, the tears finally flowing out. He couldn't talk, in shock about what had just happened. Although the situation had definitely sobered him up, the room felt like it was spinning, and he started to walk away, towards the door, James following after him. He got out the door and looked down the hallway to see Eric walking away, so he walked down the opposite direction. James walked out the door and ran up to him.
