Barty Crouch Jr

He practically struts out of the room, head healed high as always after a day of getting under Lily’s skin. Pandora waits for him across the hall, talking with Dorcas, transfiguration next.

”Hey Dorcas!” he says slinging an arm around her shoulder, grinning always grinning.

She shrugs his shoulder off, scowling over at him, “I told you to stop that.”

”Stop what?” He says with a wide smirk a cross his face.

”All of it.”

”Whatever, What’s going on Pandora?” He says turning his attention to the blonde girl beside him.

”Oh, nothing much,” She says giggling from the former interaction, “I plan to buy those fancy quills with Regulus next Hogsmeade trip…”

Barty’s attention drifts to Dorcas again, particularly where her eyes fall, on the bleach-blonde girl across the hall, books close to her chest, rushing between the students in the corridor. Her eyes don’t don’t leave Mckinnon until the crowd has become too dense to see through, only then does she bring her focus back to the group.

”I also decided to-“

“Well, well, well what do we have here?” He interrupts.

Pandora looks over, confused, “Hmm?”

”Meadowes here seems to fancy a gryffindor…”

He watches in delight as Dorcas’s face heats up and she registers that he knows, “Barty, I do not!” She scoffs.

”She what now?”

”Our friend, fancies Mckinnon,” He says grinning as Dorcas frown deepens.

“Pfft- as if I’d like a gryffindor,” And her lie is almost convincing enough, if it hadn’t been for her bright red cheeks.

“You what?” Pandora says, a small smile across her, imagining the pair together.

“I don’t! Barty-“ Dorcas says, gritting her teeth, “I swear to merlin if you bring this up again I will-!”

“Okay, okay,” He scoffs, “No need to get so worked up, I mean you don’t like her right?” Barty says, teasing her.

Dorcas hits the backside of his head with a book, “Piss off!”

Barty chuckles rubbing the back of his head, “Alright, Fine!”

The three of them walk into Transfiguration together, Dorcas and Pandora taking their seats in the back together, with Pandora still giggling over the other girls new crush. Barty smirks as he sits down next to Sirius and James, still pleased with himself for figuring Dorcas’s recent attitude out. He sees James rolling his eyes as he sat in his seat, whispering to Sirius as he did, this was one of the few things Barty didn’t care to make a scene of, never much fun to do in class. He much preferred to make a fool of them in the corridors, now that’s when he really got under their skin. Some days he could stoop a bit lower for entertainment though. Once Sirius wasn’t looking, he snatched a small book out from his school bag. It didn’t seem to be a a school book or even one from the library, but more of a personal book. Hmm, this should be interesting. He flips through the pages.

October 10th 1968
My brother told me I should start journaling, I think he’s stupid, but maybe I’ll try it.

October 26th 1968
He told me it won’t work if I don’t write more often, so I guess I’m back. Maman is mad again. She got mad at Reggie. So she got mad at me. Papa just watched.

October 30th 1968
She did it again, Reg watched this time. I told her that I wanted to see Bella. I got mad, she got more mad. I don’t think Maman likes me very much.

Boringgg, Barty skips ahead a month.

November 12th 1970
Cissa came over today, her hair’s different. It’s all black and white, like that boy, Lucius. She doesn’t look like herself anymore.

God did he ever shut up? He skips ahead a few pages.

March 3rd 1975
I haven’t written in here in awhile, but I could use it I guess? James told me I should. I’m living with him now, my mother crucioed me. I had to use the floo. Regulus just… stood there and watched. He didn’t try to stop it. I couldn’t even walk to the floo powder-

Barty’s eyes widen slightly, his head snaps up as the professor calls his name, “Mr Crouch!” Mcgonagalls shrill voice exclaims.

“Show me how to transfigure your rat into a cup?” She inquires, certain he’ll back down.

“Pfft- it would be my pleasure,” He says, slipping back into his sarcastic tone, making Minerva frown.

He takes his wand out, Sirius and James making faces at each other as usual, flicking his wrist and reciting the spell.

“Vera Verto,” Barty then watches as his rat morphs into a plain silver chalice, not bad for one of his first times.

A smirk spreads across his lips as he sits back into his seat and lifts the cup to her, mockingly.

The professor scoffs, “Maybe if you’d paid attention you would have gotten a golden cup.”

Barty scoffs, she knows it won’t take him long to get there anyways.

A little while later, class ended and Barty slipped the book into his own bag, replacing Sirius’s book with one of Barty’s school books. He walked off again, head high as always, flashing a taunting grin at the two dark haired boys before meeting his two friends at the door.

“What was all that about?” Dorcas asks, still disgruntled from his taunting.

“Nothing I just… found out some new information that’s all…” Barty says, smiling to himself.

He sees that bright red hair again, walking past them now. He sends a wink her way, hearing the annoyed groan she lets out. Watching just behind her was none other than Evan, who had been waiting for Barty.

“Oh hey Evan!” Barty calls out crossing the corridor to reach him.

But Evan just scoffs and walks away. What was that about? He thinks to himself before putting that mask on again and walking off beside Dorcas, Pandora now off to find Regulus again.
