She was discovered in a hospital by the McKinnon family.

An investigation of accidental magic in a muggle hospital led Angus McKinnon to 1 year old Hermione Granger, the only survivor of a fatal car accident. Angus, seeing the danger this muggle born was in during these dark times, took the infant to the McKinnon estate instead of the Ministry.

Angus planned to inform the Order of their discovery the following morning, but the morning never came for the McKinnons.

The Death Eaters, led by Travers and Dolohov, ambushed the McKinnons estate and eradicated the McKinnon bloodline.
After the Death Eaters breached the wards but before they reached the McKinnons, Angus called for Sable.

The house elf presented herself and took the final direction from the House of McKinnon.

"Take Hermione! hide her, protect her, keep her safe."
