The sleeping giant
She’s been here for a week now, her days are pretty simple and follow a routine
She wakes the moonrise, since they have the moonlight solely during the “day” they have to use it as best they can.
She washed her face, cleaned and braided her hair, she wasn’t really good at styling, she never really cared even before coming here.
She wore a dress and a heavy overtunic, since it was winter and really cold, a slim belt with a small purse attached.
The second day on the job Dragana scolded her because she wasn’t wearing an apron again- so she added it to her outfit.
For her feet she wore hose, held in place with fabric strips, then at the end, her leather shoes.
Athtnasii was the first one to wake, to prepare breakfast before the customers started arriving.
Downstairs she lit the fire in the dining hall, the candles, she wiped the floors .
After preparing the dining room she would go to the well to get more water, organize the bottle of alcohol.
After her basic tasks she would go to the kitchen to help prepare food.
Dragana would spend the morning in the woods, collecting wood.
The rest of the day she would attend tables, the morning was the least crowded and so her favorite.
She only had some free time in the afternoon, she would spend it visiting the small village she was in.
So..she never specified to Visaustero when in the story she wanted to enter, he made her start at a point where her age and that of the protagonist matched thankfully.
The story of the protagonist started when she was a child..being a thirteen years old inside a 6 year old’s body would be hell.
At this point the protagonist already left her hometown, it was becoming a ghost town and she wanted a better life, so this was her next step.
Although she didn't want to follow the protagonist's steps, she wanted to live her own life here, she doesn’t exactly know what to do yet, but she doesn’t need her life all figured out at 13 right?
The only thing she is sure about..as soon as she leaves she will start forging her new identity.
This morning Dragana had sent her to buy some new ingredients, so she was going to the market, which was in the village next to theirs, because it was bigger.
“Apples..pears and eggs..” she repeated to herself
She got to the stand for fruits
The lady at the stand resembled a monkey, she was old, her hair were white and messy, she tapped a gaunt finger on the table, her wrists were very hair.
Riri grimaced a little
The woman clicked her tongue “What do thou need?”
“I’ll have 1 basket of apples and one of pears” she puts 5 silver coins and on the table
“It’s seven coins”
Riri crosses her arms “it was 5 last week”
“Well it is seven today, the prices changed”
Riri snorts and adds 2 coins.
The woman takes the coin and start filling 2 baskets
Riri notices a yellow fruit in the back of the stand, it’s skin is primarily yellow with pink shades, it looks like a fat plump tomato, she had read about this fruit, it’s only found in winter and it’s pretty rare. It should taste like a mix of peach and apricot.
It's said to be one of the best fruits of the season, she was always curious to taste it.
“Hey lady, how much is the Auroberry?”
“10 silver coin” she smiles smugly
“I don’t have them, let’s trade”
The woman rises a brow “Thou has nothing that I need”
“Well maybe I can provide something” she pushes
She didn’t come here onyl to work as a waiter.
The woman thinks, tapping her hairy chin
“There is a herb that I need, it is called Calorvax, and it is right hard to obtain.”
“I’ll get it for you then.”
“Really?” the woman seems amused
“Alright then”
______
Riri was on her way to get the herb, it was on top of a tall hill, the problem was that the hill was on top of the ruins of an old castle, so to reach the hill you had to climb.
The woman was a monkey tho, maybe she was too old to climb?
Doesn’t matter, she gotta do what she gotta do.
She reached the ruins and stopped, hands on hips, very wel..what the hell. So..she is kinda scared to climb big heights, maybe she can find a way troughs the ruins
She spent a good while inside the ruins, up the stairs, down, through this window, now she’s lost..ugh weirds bugs, shit that’s a snake, hell no-
Until she was on top of the wrecked castle from there, she had to climb on the hill by clinging to the trees
In the middle of the hill the the highest tower of the castle rose across the ground
She remembered this description, It was peculiar cause It had a sleeping giant on the side of the Mountain..
The Giant in the original story wakes up and destroys the village where she lives..
This will be the reason the original protagonist leaves
Honestly she would feel kinda bad for the village people
But that would probably be inevitable..
Unless she finds a way to change that?
If the giant destroys the village it's probably because he is mad, so maybe she should do something to cheer it up..? She’s not really good at this
The book explained that the rock giants sleep all winter and wake up at the beginning of autumn
She threw a rock on his feet, no response..
Just making sure
She then climbed, on its knee, running on its thighs, up on its round belly, on the arm, till up on the shoulder
She stand there awkwardly for a little bit, then she pat its cheek two times
Mmh..
The hill Is extremely silent and peaceful
She sits down to look at the view for a while
Until she gets bored
“I'm not sure of you can hear me” she starts
“When I was back home I could never just sit in silence for a long time, I always needed a little tune, you must be bored.
Would you like some music as well?”
She reached for two thick sticks
“I'm really good at singing, I've always had a talent but I also studied for a while and I can keep the tempo”
Sha started beating the sticks and sing
Then she jumped off, back to the statue’s feet and started singing her favorite pop songs while putting up a little show as well
“So, what do you think? You like it?”
silence
“Well I hope so..cause I have to climb on your head for a sec..”
She had to cause the Calorvax was growing there like a crown on the giant’s head
She got as much as she could, it was a really useful herb for the winter, since ingesting it made you warmer
She would give half the share to the monkey woman and she would keep the rest
She caressed the giant smooth surface
“I’m sorry I took your hat away”
She sighed
“Let’s see..I’ll make you a new one tomorrow alright?”
She went down, waved goodbye
The tower was completely obstructed by dirt, plants and rocks..so she had to climb down again
She went back in town, gave the calorvax to the old lady, got her fruits and went back home
