bestfriend's brother
James was definitely not into Sirius’ little brother.
He couldn’t be right?
… Right?
“Move out the way Potter.”
Okay, James was smitten.
Since when a boy can look this pretty, hot and adorable at the same time?
James was going crazy. He never liked boys before, how could he know if it wasn’t just admiration or jealousy or literally anything else? Usually the first thing he would have done would have been to tell Sirius. But there was the problem: how could he ask Sirius about a crush he was having on Sirius’ brother himself.
James remembered the few times Crouch was being flirty with Regulus in third year, Sirius was going mad. Definitely overprotective but if he thought about it, James understood. Sirius had taken on the role of his parents with Regulus. And beside Crouch was literally crazy.
All that to say: James was lost. He will probably end up asking Remus.
“Potter. Back on Earth?”
“Sorry Reggie,” James moves aside to let Regulus pass in the narrow corridor of the Potter’s library. Regulus had spend a lot of time there, enjoying the quiet, the loneliness and the non-presence of the noisy boys. Remus would join him sometimes. He was quieter and smart. Regulus liked him.
“Don’t call me that," the raven haired boy sighs. “My name is Regulus"
James smirks, “Well mine is James. So maybe when you'll stop calling me Potter, I’ll start calling you Regulus.”
Regulus turns toward the books shelves. “Fine. James.” he says really really quietly, like a secret whispered in a breath. And James is suddenly grateful that he is facing Regulus' back and not his eyes. He knows that even his tanned skin would betray the blush that rose on his cheeks and his teeth nibbling at his lip.
Regulus rises on tiptoes to reach a book high up and struggles. He was taller than Sirius (and loved teasing him about it) but he was still small compared to James and even tiny next to Remus. But Remus was a giant anyway.
So James doesn't really think (he did that a lot) and slips behind Regulus to grab the book.
Regulus makes a squealing sound and turns around, his wand pointed on James’ throat. “What the-” he starts and James pulls away before noticing the book about to fall on Regulus’ head and reaches out again. He catches it in time but it also leads him pressed against Regulus. He looks down and finds himself facing a menacing yet blushing look and a wand pressing a little more on his neck. James wonders a second if he should be worried that he is getting flustered by this situation.
“Get off me Potter."
“James,” corrects the other boy, lost in the grey eyes facing him.
“What?”
“My name is James.”
“Well James, if you don’t get off me in the next five seconds, I’ll slice that pretty throat." hisses Regulus.
Okay this was definitely not supposed to sound hot.
But James Potter was a weak man.
He finally pulls away, his hands up. “Sorry, sorry…”
Regulus rolls his eyes and tries to erase the redness of his ears. James gives him the book he was reaching for. “I just wanted to help you, I didn’t mean it to look like that."
“Look like what? A cliché straight out of a romantic novel?” says Regulus coldly.
James smirks, “Hey don't complain, I gave you the chance to experience THE fantasy of all the little bookworms like you."
Regulus rolls his eyes again. “I had no desire to have this experience, even less with you, Pott-.. James.”
“Whatever you say love,”
Regulus eyes widen but James is running away before he get the chance to say anything.
