Father? Yeah No.
Father? Yeah No.
This Harry will admit is NOT how he wanted his day to go. Not that he ever has gotten what he wanted. Hearing Dumbledore announce to him and Severus snape of all people that the greasy git is his father is appalling and terrifying.
"Sir, with all due respect why are you telling us this." Harry snaps irritably.
Dumbledore smiling genially with his usual twinkling eyes starts "Well my boy, I would like you to stay with your father for this summer!"
There that was the shoe Harrys instincts had been acting up about. But staying with snape of all people was NOT happening father or not this man was the person who had tormented harry through his Hogwarts years and couldn't seem to make up his mind weather he wanted harry alive or dead.
"No." Harry says with finality.
"Potter." Snape growls out.
"Severus my old friend he is your son he's a Prince as well." Dumbledore happily corrects seemingly oblivious to the tension he's created.
"No Never Prince. Snape is NOT my father."
"Now, now my boy Severus is your father." Dumbledore says this time a bit sterner.
"No. He may be my biological father but he has not earned the right to such a title." Harry grits out irritated. How dare they suggest he forget years of bullying and lack of help from this man. How dare they act like this can be fixed."
Snape looks like he might blow Harry finds he doesn't particularly care.
"Potter. You WILL be coming with me this summer!" The disdain is clear in his voice and Harry finds that he's certain that the git is only insisting because of Dumbledore. No one seems to have the spin to stand up to the man when they think he's wrong.
"Harry, My boy please give your father the chance to prove himself?" Dumbledore's voice is kind now back to genial.
Harry wants to scream typically he admires Dumbledore but after the tournament and Voldemort's resurrection he finds his patience is running thin for this. However he knows from his 'lovely relatives' that when adults have made a decision it is final no matter what Harry has to say on the matter.
That doesn't stop him from trying one final time. "What of the blood wards though professor?"
"The wards will for this summer be forgotten as Severus here has his own warded property."
"Fine. I'll give him one more chance." Harry relents irritably more to not prolong the pointless fight then because of any actual agreement.
"That's all I ask of you." Dumbledore says genially.
"Potter you would've come with me ether way." Snape snaps.
"Now, now Severus no need to be aggressive. I know you and Harry here haven't the best of relationships but it would be nice if you could put your differences aside."
At this pronouncement both snape and I seem to meet each others eyes and this may be the first time we've ever agreed but clearly we're on the same page right now. Dumbledore is asking for a miracle if he thinks we'll ever manage that.
"Fine. I shall try." The git relents and like for Harry himself it's more to appease Dumbledore and not continue a pointless fight then anything else.
"Yes sir." Harry answers still hesitant and unwilling but not wanting to cause a fight.
"Alright! Now that we've settled that Harry, my boy I ask you to take your leave please?"
Nodding Harry exits quickly just glad to be out of that situation. Bloody hell! Harry thinks more then a little hysteric at the turn of events. Why! Why is it always me that this shit happens to! Why can it not be anyone else for once! Fuck! How am I gonna tell Ron and Mione!? What will they think!? Oh well I won't know unless I tell them I just hope I don't lose my best mates out of this...
Walking to the common rooms feels like it takes more effort then ever before. Even walking to the first task didn't feel this daunting. Coming into the common room Harry immediately spots Ron and Hermione.
"Ron! Hermione!" Harry shouts to each respectively running up to them.
"Hey mate! What did Dumbledore have to say this time." Ron asks. Harry notes a hint of concern in his voice and realizes he must look a right mess. Hermione for her part is much worse as hiding the concern and bluntly asks sounding like she's in a tizzy.
"Oh, Harry what's wrong! What'd he want to discuss does it have to do with You-Know-Who?" Her voice lowers at the end to be a bit more discreet. Which Harry would appreciate if half the common room wasn't staring at them.
"I'm fine mione! And no nothing to do with him. What Dumbledore told me is exactly what I want to discuss with you actually but I think we should go somewhere more private for that please?"
Hermione looks around the room and seems to only now notice the attention they've garnered and flushes a bit but recovers quick enough and starts nodding frantically her bushy hair moving fast with the movement.
"Of course Harry!" She assures.
"Yeah Mate of course." Ron agrees much more calm.
Harry heaves a sigh of relief he really doesn't need the rumor mill getting ahold of this. "Thank you."
Leaving the common room they head up for the boys dorm where they then sit on Harry bed. Hermione closes the curtains and then silences them for extra measure before her and Ron turn to Harry expectantly.
"Well when Dumbledore called me up to the office Snape was up there as well." Harry begins hesitantly.
"That greasy git! I bet he tried to get you in trouble didn't he!" Ron accuses. Harry doesn't blame him but it does make him wince.
"Ron he's a professor he wouldn't try to get harry into trouble needlessly!" Hermione defends always staunchly defending authority figures typically. Though harry knows that her shout lacks actual heat. She dislikes Snape as much as Harry himself and Ron do even if she'd never admit it. However before this escalates into a petty fight Harry knows he needs to intervene.
"No. That's actually not it." Harry interjects.
"Then why was he there mate?" Ron asks now more curious.
"Well with wixen all sorts of things are possible... One night my parents and Snape were drunk at the same bar... Somehow it ended in a threesome. Snape had been so drunk he forgot about the night in it's entirety. My Mother however not so much. Apparently she shared this with Dumbledore after Dumbledore came out with some information to her."
"Oh, Harry!" Hermione says understanding and sympathy in her tone.
"Mate, I hope you know this doesn't change anything you're still you to us. Even if You-Know-Who was your parents it wouldn't change the fact we care for you." Ron says in a show of understanding.
"Ron's right Harry. No matter who your parent you will ALWAYS be our friend! You were my first friend you know? I'd never been very liked even in the muggle world.. when I first entered Hogwarts halls I had thought maybe this was my chance to make a friend. Then as time past I had gradually given up that hope. It was the same story a bossy know it all. Ron was a right prat at first and you were off to the side I noticed you'd just tend to agree." Hermione's voice was cracking but she wore a teary eyed smile that Harry felt himself mirroring.
Ron on the other end is flustered and looks a bit guilty but ends up laughing wetly and smiling back at Harry and Hermione.
"I was and I'm sorry about that Mione. Also I was a jealous prick at the start this year Harry and my actions were cruel I know you wouldn't put your name in you've always told us that you dislike your fame so once more I'm sorry for how I acted." Ron freely admits.
"It's fine Ron. We understand." Harry says looking back towards Hermione.
"Yes. You can be a bit of a dunderhead but you're our dunderhead and we wouldn't trade you for the world." She says joining in the bout of laughter that Ron and Harry had fallen into at her declaration.
"Yes well Harry point is mate the dungeon bat may be your father but that doesn't change the fact you are our Harry."
"Thank you guys." Harry says tears now streaming as he tackles them in a hug and feels their arms surrounding him in a warm embrace that speaks of home, of love, of laughter, of late nights ,and hard won fights, of peace, and of safety. What family should feel like Harry knows and what Snape will NEVER be.
After they separate Hermione picks back up.
"Picking back where I left off I didn't think I'd have any friends and as much as I love books-," "Understatement of the century." Ron cuts in amusedly. "- They can't replace people. The troll incident left me grateful I thought no one would willingly save me like that I honestly didn't think I'd make it that night..." Hermione trails off obviously remembering the fear that event must've caused.
Bringing her into a hug Harry cuts in "If you can't continue mione don't force yourself."
"No, no It's ok I can. Then you two saved me of course you obviously had no clue what you were doing." She chuckles wetly.
"Yeah we had no clue what the bloody hell we were doing." Ron cuts in.
"No we knew we just didn't have any clue what we were actually getting into." Harry adds in a deadpan voice.
Hermione chuckles again shaking her head fondly "Well after words I thought things would go back to how they were but you two stuck around then continued to do so. The day I looked at you both and realized I had friends who cared for me for who I was or in spite of it was the happiest day of my life."
"Mione you're not alone in that. The day I looked at you and Ron and realized I finally had a place that I had two people in my life who cared for me for myself and nothing else was probably the most happy and overwhelming day I'd ever had. I didn't have friends at my relatives and when I got into the wizarding world I didn't expect that to change then I found Ron and I was ecstatic to have made a friend I didn't dare hope for more at that point it already seemed like I had more then I'd ever dreamed. Then you came along and what was a duo became a trio when I realized you were here to stay and so was Ron? I'd never felt a better feeling in my life."
Tears now freely streamed down the trios faces as they looked at each other.
Harry vowed in that moment he'd do everything to keep them safe and together. To never let go of these two who were and always will be his soul family.
Hermione vowed to never push the other two away to always make time and to always put effort into supporting her found family.
Ron vowed to support them to do his best to make sure he never lost them and to be a pillar they could rely on when needed he had a large family but these two were his family in a way even the others weren't.
Unbeknownst to them magic had accepted these vows as far as anyone could ever be concerned these 3 were family and nothing could or would change that. Nothing should change that.
"Ok now- now that we've sorted that out. Harry can you continue telling us what happened?" Hermione prompts gently.
"Alright so after this information was shared and my mum told him about the threesome and the fact I resulted from it- what that information was he wouldn't share. He decided to keep the information to himself. He decided now was the time to tell Snape and I of this information because he wants us to stay together for the summer. I don't understand why now but he's told us to give each other another chance."
"Bloody hell mate!" Ron exclaims looking some absurd mixture of floored, horrified, and sympathetic to Harrys plight.
"So are you going to give each other another chance Harry or did you just saying this to please the headmaster?" Hermione asks the question is rhetoric however that harry is sure of because she must know the answer.
At whatever expression is on Harrys face she sighs exasperatedly. "Harry I know you don't like him I understand why but you should give him a chance. This is an opportunity for you."
"I know mione it's just hard the git has never liked me now he's suddenly supposed to take the role of father and I'm supposed to accept it like that? After how he's treated us over the years? How he's treated me and you?"
"I get it Harry and I don't expect you to just forgive him but if he wants this then he'll be willing to work for it. I don't want you to look back at this and regret not giving it a chance. Both Ron and I have noticed you don't tend to trust adults..."
At this his friends glance at each other their not very discreet harry thinks a bit amused or... maybe they are but having spent years together by now we've learned everything that makes the others tick, that makes them grin, what makes them laugh, what makes them sad.... so maybe it's not that surprising harry acknowledges that he noticed this.
"Yeah mate. Like Mione said you don't have to forgive him we don't expect that but give him a chance who knows maybe he'll surprise you..." Harry can tell Ron himself doesn't fully agree but is supporting Hermione.
"I guess I can give him a chance... I don't trust him and I don't expect this to last but I suppose I can let him try."
"Harry, trusting and trying are both two lane streets if you give him a chance know that you'll have to do some work too."
"I know mione... I know."
---------------------------------------------------------------
"Albus what do you want now?" Severus asks clearly irritated and antsy.
"I think you should acquire young Harrys supplies from his old house." Dumbledore says tone jovially.
"And pray tell why Potter can't get his own things albus?" Severus sneers.
"Well I think he should come straight with you and his relatives have informed me that there shan't be much to pack my boy."
"Fine I'll get the brats stuff I don't know what you think will happen because of this Albus but I promise you it won't go how you're thinking." Severus sneers.
Dumbledore just chuckles in response.
