“Stop checking your phone.”
Remus sighed a slow breath of air and looked up at Lily in a lazy manner. “Oh shuddup..” He said, however, his words were muffled by his hands which he brought up to cover his face.
His body sunk lower into his chair, somehow, and he almost slid right off.
Him and Lily had already finished sorting all the books, stocking the shelves, and dusting them, even the sections no one seemed to go to.
They had picked up the job together the second they found out they both got accepted into the same university. After being friends for almost their whole lives, there was barely anything they didn't do together.
Their flats were even across the street from each other.
It was like the universe was on their side when they found out that the flats they were interested in were neighboring, and only fueled their desire for the small, cozy studio flats.
One of the only differences between their schedules however was school. Remus, always the nerdier one, was studying English lit. Lily, who was all the ways smarter than Remus, started to go into the field of plants and things of that matter.
The lack of school time together was hard to get used to at first, but they soon fell into a pattern.
They worked together at the library on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and hung out most Sundays.
Of course, they had other friends that would hang out with them wherever, but they were always tied at the hip.
For example, Lily had Mary and Marlene, as well as Barty (even if they pissed each other off most times.) Most of their friends were shared between them, but Remus always liked keeping a smaller circle. Hence why Lily was his best friend.
So, the sudden ‘friend’, if you could even call him that, was quite the surprise for Remus and Lily.
“It's just strange to me. It took you almost 4 months to actually hold a conversation with me, yet this stranger comes along, and you are hanging on the edge of your seat just for a text message.” She continued sorting books and Remus watched in silence, processing her words of truth.
Right when he was about to respond, a customer walked in and he halted his words. The person found the book they needed fast, much to Remus’ joy, and Lily helped them out.
After he heard the bell ring and signalize a customer leaving, he started up again. “Yeah I know.. it is weird. But its just something about them.. it feels different.. new, if you will.”
“Mhm..” The look on her face was one that ushered him to keep talking.
“Maybe I’m changing. I think this could be good for me.” He finalized, and turned back around to sort through more returned books.
A short snicker sounded from behind him in amusement. “I still think he is secretly a sex worker killer.”
