The new teacher.
Regulus's day was going good, great if you will, until in the middle of his second period. Regulus is an English teacher at a middle school called Hogwarts, Regulus has always thought it was a strange name, but all great things are strange. Regulus's second period class is sixth graders, and they are already misbehaving, it's nine in the fucking morning it's too early for this shit. Regulus has a class aid who is his best friend, Pandora, his students adore Pandora and her wife Lily who is the book club teacher.
Regulus got his classes attention, finally, and passed out their journals. In Regulus's class he likes to teach his students how to write poems, he also loves the pure joy on their faces when they write a poem that makes sense, Regulus loves his job, but he sometimes hates it. "Okay class, today I want you guys to try and write a poem about water"
The class all looked at Regulus in confusion and one student named Raven raised her hand. "Professor Black, how are we supposed to write a poem about water?"
"Good question Raven, let me give you some examples. You could use it in a metaphorical sense for example saying something like. "The air is like water and I'm drowning" Or you could explain how it physically feels, how it feels to swim in it, how it feels to accidently swallow pool water or ocean water" Regulus smiles as he sees realization hit his students faces.
Regulus's classroom door opens and he assumes it's Pandora, so you can imagine how surprised he was when a tall, brown wavy haired, chocolate brown eyed boy wearing a red t-shirt and jeans with red converse and round glasses walked into his classroom. The boy was beautiful, yes, but who is he? The boy walked over to Regulus. "Hi, I'm James Potter, or well coach Potter now" The boy-James- says and fixes his glasses. "I hope you are professor Black, or Regulus, or this would be embarrassing"
The whole class was staring at them now. After a moment Regulus returned back to earth and nodded. "Yeah, yeah I'm professor Black, though Regulus is fine because my brother also works here"
James nodded. "I was told to come to you for the PE schedule, why? I have no idea"
Regulus's eyes widened as he remembered. He had been asked to have the new PE teacher's schedule. "Oh, oh yeah, sorry, one second" Regulus walked over to his desk and grabbed a paper with the PE schedule on it. He turned around and handed it to James. "Before you go, who directed you to me?"
"Uhm, a pretty woman, she had blonde shoulder length hair, she looked kind of scary but was actually really sweet" James scratched the back of his neck and Regulus nodded. Marlene. Marlene was the other PE teacher, and Regulus is assuming Marlene was the one who suggested it to be Regulus who had the PE schedule for this new worker.
Regulus sighed. "Thank you, that is Marlene by the way, or the students call her Coach Mckinnon. She's the other PE teacher, you guys will be working together, or well I guess you've already been told that. Yeah, you probably have. I'll see you at the teacher's lunch" Regulus doesn't know why he is acting so flustered around James, Regulus has never acted this flustered around anyone before. James smiled and waved 'goodbye' to Regulus, holy shit his smile was breathtaking, it was so sweet, and soft and- No, Regulus needs to stop. Once James had walked out of the classroom Regulus sat down.
The whole class started laughing. "Do you have a crush professor Black?"
Regulus waved his hand in dismissal and tutted. "Focus on your poems" The class started laughing again. The rest of that class period was full of them teasing Regulus about his 'crush' it is not a crush, and it will never be a crush. The rest of the classes don't know about the interaction between Regulus and James, but Regulus keeps overhearing students gossiping about the fact that there's another PE teacher.
Lunch comes quick which Regulus is very happy about, after that interaction he needed something to eat. Regulus had made a delicious alfredo last night and has been craving it for the past hour, so he's very glad he brought the alfredo for lunch. Regulus sat down in the teachers' lounge and started eating. He was always the first teacher to get to the teachers lounge. Followed by Pandora and Lily, Remus and Sirius, Evan, Narcissa, Sirius and Peter and Mary, Dorcas and Marlene, and Barty but today he's accompanied by James. Regulus has to get used to that.
Pandora sat down next to Regulus and grabbed the noodle off of Regulus's fork. "Pandora fucking Evans" Regulus said in a mix of anger and shock. Pandora always does this, but it still surprises him every time. Pandora laughed and scooted closer to Lily. Barty sat down on the other side of Regulus and tried to grab Regulus's fork, Regulus kicked his shin and Barty scooted closer to Evan who was sitting on the other side of Barty. Regulus smirked triumphantly and continued eating.
James looked around and Sirius told him to sit down by him. "Making friends with the new kid already Black?" Evan teased and draped an arm over Bartys shoulder and Barty laid back against Evans side, somewhat on his chest.
Regulus looked over at Evan. "I'm not making friend- Oh, never mind" Regulus looked down and continued eating, he and Sirius rarely ever mixed each other up but they still did sometimes.
"Wait, you two are brothers?" James said and his voice sounded genuinely confused.
Regulus looked up at James. "No, we're cousins, yes me and Sirius are brothers" Regulus said and put away his noodles container since he finished. James nodded and ate his chicken salad sandwich. "Is that a chicken salad sandwich?" Regulus had never met anyone else who liked chicken salad sandwiches, even Sirius didn't like them. James nodded.
"Does Regulus have a crush?" Barty smirked.
"You're one to talk, you obsessed over Evan for five years, five years Bartimaeus crouch Jr" Regulus turned and looked at Barty.
"You know, you aren't denying it" Barty's smirk quickly faltered, and he immediately started running. Regulus ran after him and chased him around the teachers' lounge.
Regulus heard James say. "Are they always like this?"
"Yes" Responded Narcissa and she stood up and pulled Regulus back by the shirt.
"I'm going to bite you, then him" Regulus pried Narcissa's hand off the back of his shirt and then sat back down next to Evan and Pandora.
"Do you actually bite people?" James said with a smirk and leaned back into the couch. Oh, fuck that smirk.
"Yes, I have multiple scars from him biting me" Sirius said and also leaned back into the couch.
Narcissa laughed humorlessly. "He literally almost bit my finger off"
"Your blood tasted like iron" Regulus said flatly.
"Wow, I never would've guessed, it's not like I'm a health teacher" Narcissa rolled her eyes.
"Oh yes I forgot, you teach middle schoolers what puberty is" Regulus retorted. Narcissa scoffed and walked out. "Oh, yes go check and make sure Alice is okay!" Regulus yelled after her. Regulus smirked and leaned back into the couch.
Remus looked over at James who looked a mix of scared, confused and amused. "Don't worry, you'll get used to it the Black family is very weird. Narcissa, Regulus, Sirius and Bellatrix all work here and are all family" James nodded and laughed.
Regulus doesn't know who James Potter is, or who he used to be but Regulus is going to find out. Regulus also doesn't know why James has this effect on Regulus, but he doesn't like it.
